Geez. I would LOVE to be able to tinker with droids to that extent, trading HAMs for resistances... *THAT* ability would make for some good combat droids.

I guess that is a good point that you can have both. If sombody had one of each, then it should give them a pretty nice little boost.
My take: BE cl 10 pets are going to be nerfed and nerfed HARD in the next couple of months. We have already been told that they believe the current cl10 pets are too strong for their level and will be changed, and I think the change is going to be extreme. The reason that it is taking as long as it is is because the BE pet crafting system is something that is completely new (not just to SWG but to MMOs) and the devs still don't know exactly why it does everything it does. If and when they figure that out, there will be a major nerfing of those creatures.
Until then (and that may take a very long time), I'm afraid that droids are relegated to the role of secondary damage dealers. A good player will have a strong BE pet as a tank and use his combat droid as another damage source. As someone that has played games with multiple pets (crat and MP in AO), this can be a very effective strategy but it is tough to play. It takes a really good player to use multiple, specialized pets correctly. Most of the zerging players that we have in SWG will screw it up, declare droids to be useless, and never use them again.
So, this is going to be a tough sell for DEs. I have two suggestions:
1) Scream at the top of your lungs. Throw these numbers up on every board you can. Use the P-word over and over (and point out that the devs are so sensitive to that criticism that they have banned the word from the boards). Question on every fansite whether you are playing SWG or the EQ2 beta. Tell the devs over and over that since they created your profession, they are responsible for making it useful, and they have not succeeded in doing that. Suggest specific, realistic maximums for your droid's stats. Getting change in an MMO requires a two-pronged strategy: your correspondent has to remain congenial, level-headed and work with the devs to bring changes to the game that work in everyone's best interests; and others have to be royal pains in the ass, screaming like the sky is falling. It is a tried and true strategy that every dev will tell you doesn't work but works with frightening consistency.
2) Try out the multiple pet strategy yourself (or have a friend do it if you have no combat skills). Figure out how a BE tank, droid damage pet can work effectively and be ready to patiently explain the combat strategy to your customers.
Good luck.
The problem lies in that these High HAM BE pets look a lot more appealing than the droids on a stat for stat basis and are in many cases more desirable as players want tanks not damage dealers.
It is possible to make a legal 9-10k HAM pets by sacrificing every other stat in the creature, this is just one of the joys of BE, the control you can have over your creations.
The devs have admitted that there are still some bugs in the BE pet creation system and the 10k HAM 60% kinetic resist pets are just one example of the bugged combinations.
However the other pets you have quoted in this thread are legal pets made to the same rule set as BE pets.

I've got a class 10 bearded jax that has 9k ham, 60% kin resists and hits for about 150. Ifa droid engineer can't compete with that, why should I bother buying a combat droid. It's really sad because I really want to have a droid. But not if they are useless. It's like mounts, I like the creatures a lot better but after tooling around on my swoop, it drives me crazy how slow they are. I'm really sorry DE's you guys have taken it in the butt again. Guess you'll have to wait months for the new Droid commander profession before anything happens.
Hello,
well all know your pet isn't in the expected normal range and should be leveled soon or later so the comparaison does not apply.
We don't want DE droids to compete with thoses Uber pets.
Same foryour comparison about Mounts and vehicules they are different and handy, let me explain.
When I hunt I use my vehicule to go to the hunting area then I store my vehicule and travel / huntaround with my mount.
Why that? Because I don't have to get back to get on my vehicule I can ask my pet to follow me. Andon top of that vehicules are too fast : the time a lair spawn nera you you have passed it. So in my mindmounts and vehicules are complementary, even if vehicules are usually mores usefull.
Last word on droids :they don't compete and don't have too. They need to be complementary. The interesting thing is to make people want a pet AND a droid. The best example would be to keep BE pets to tanks and have the droids be the damage dealers. That would bringhapiness to everyone.
Greetings From A Master CH,
First of all you guys have my deepest sympathy.
Both DE and CH are in deep trouble, mostly because SOE has no clue what to do with us. (now isn't that a news flash)
I think you CL 10 warbots are going to massacred about as fast as the new "nerfed" cl 10 pets. Pets have been nerfed already, 3 times. The problem I think lies in that some people get a BE pet and take it to a CH, the best you can do is take it to a Master CH and he can teach it all the commands you need including guard. Personally, slightly biased here of course, I prefer my pets on guard than a droid. If, and I say if, you could make a droideka it would probably be nerfed like what happens when we tame a wild rancor. In the wild they are bad, once tamed they are a joke.
Ummm Bantha, unless you are RP'ing don't bother, build a speeder, faster and at the moment smarter than any mount. We have a small mount bug at the moment, yeah right.
If I may make a suggestion here without getting disassembled, I think for DE's there should be the ability to, hmmmm, harvest components off of droidekas etc. that would enhance your own battlebots. I am not sure what goes into them but if you could get a component that would say double the damage from a droideka that would make your Droids very attractive. Too bad, and you can correct me if I am wrong, you couldn't build your droid to do specific damage. Or better yet, make them so they are either, fast and hit hard but are vunerable, or Slower hit less hard but are much more durable.
Lastly, I think you have had your "TLC" from the devs, just pray that they don't give you anymore or your profession may well go down the tubes. LOL i got good news and bad news, the Devs decided to fix your profession and the bad news is "THE DEVS DECIDED TO FIX YOUR PROFESSION" (fix as in neutered).
