I look at it this way. If I stop selling Schematics for Chef Tissues then I have to stop buying Schematics for medical components. If I don't I'll be a hypocrit. I just can't compete in the pet stim market if I don't use Master Doctor made components. And buying them is out of the question because it takes me forever to find someone who makes them for mo9re then just his own buff use and if I do they are priced so high that my 34/950 Stim Bs would have to sell for 9k a piece.

It’s nice to see this conversation taking place. The debate you are having is very healthy for your profession. I wanted give you my opinion because of the professions I play on several characters, all of which interact closely with Bio Engineers. My characters are in these professions; Master Artisan, Master Tailor, Master Merchant, Master Ranger, Master Scout, Master Carbineer, and Master Rifleman. In one way or another I do business with those in your profession class. I hunt for you, I buy from you, I loan out my factories to you, I sell to you, and resell for you.

The selling of schematics is a practice that I follow. I break it down into two fees. Fee one is the schematic and fee two is for my expertise. I sell the schematics at twenty-five credits per unit produced and 1k per percent experimentation above 75%. This way I am being paid for my time, expertise, and talents.

1000 x 25cpu = 25k
Base quality = 75% After experimentation 95%
20 x 1k = 20k
Total cost of Schematic = 45k

I find that is makes me a nice side income anywhere from 300k-600k per month besides my other ventures. I even have a side-side business of building up resources and making an ok schematic with them and selling the schematic and the resources to make the end product to others. It is not detrimental to my business because of a loyal customer base and business diversity so I feel positive about the practice. If you are in a narrow line of product I would not suggest that you do it because you would put yourself out of business.

Interesting thread...thought I'd chime in from the other side of this debate.

When I started in the food business I actually looked forward to developing good relationships with a solid core of Bio-Engineers. I liked the social interaction within the game and I liked the idea of regularly putting money back into the economy. At first all was well and everything was fine. I had a few BE's that I regularly worked with; they were prompt and charged rates that I thought fair, based on time and resources required. Then it happened....

...my business started to grow! I went from needing two runs of BE tissues a week to needing three, then four and more and more. Suddenly, I was screwed. I was constantly running out of in demand foods because I couldn't find and purchase runs of BE tissues quickly enough. To make matters worse, more and more competition was coming into the market so the already limited number of good BE's were squeazed even harder. Naturally, this led to higher prices and even morescarcity in the BE market. Something had to give. I wasn't meeting the needs of my customers and I felt powerless to change it.

That's when I decided I had to take matters into my own hands. I had the capital to purchase huge quantities of meat and the miningmuscle to harvestthe flora I needed to stabilize my business. So, that's what I did and that's what I do. I have BE's make me schematics and make the runs myself. It's not uncommon for BE's to decline to make the schematic or ask crazy prices (700k lol). Fortunately for me, there are enough BE's out there just scraping by so I can always find one willing to make one for less than 100k.

If the day ever comes when BE's universally decide to stop making schematics for me, I'll do what I have to do to keep my business alive -- I'll have an alt master BE. I dread that day and I hope it never comes but it's not acceptable to me to have my business suffer because there aren't enough qualified BE's to supply me with the things I need to be successful.
