Thread: Don't rip me off!
I tend to avoid the food additives myself, as most chefs do not appreciate the level of hunting needed to produce them and they require a steady flow of them. I stick with the tissues as the tailors are much more understanding and require them in more reasonable amounts. There are a ton of other things I can do with BE other than be a supplier of food additives, frankly its a bit dull compared to the puzzle creature crafting is.
It can take me well over3 hours to collect the a meat and make a run of 100 additives. Many of these are not on mission terms because not only do the chefs want additives they laugh at anything less than 80 on a Broad-Spectrum.
Now as a Master Rifleman to compliment my BE, I have a choice to make 100K in less than two hours running missions, or spending 3 hours to sell additives. I have other fun things I can do rather than deal with peoplewho get angry at me for not under-selling my services.
40K is a fair price. All you need to do is throw some water, alchohol, standard berries and fruits into a glass and you turn that 40K into a 200K product. Your part of this product is harvested in mass by machines, our part is mostly done by hand. Next time you get a bug up your hind end about how you can squeese others for your profit, go hand sample all your resources for a crate of brandy than tell me 40K is overpriced for the food additives.
Jezz..you are making way more than 100% profit off a 40K transaction. Most bussiness these days throw pizza parties for 5% profit.
I can turn this arguement around and say that since additives pretty much double the value of a food or more, than BEs should be asking for at least 100K a crate.
Dont kick the horse that pulls your cart.

I'm kind of curious.. there is a tailor on my server who sells +25 injury/wound treatment clothing for 200,000 credits a pop. How much do you think he pays for the BE tissues? 50K a piece? I sure hope so.. otherwise he is certainly ripping off the BE he buys from. Right?
Do you look at how much the tailors you deal with sell the BE clothes for, and then make sure you get your 50% of the profit or more?
Here is some sample tailor pricing from the tailor forum:
i generaly charge like 30k for +4melee/+x stun
27k for +17 injury/wound
32k for +25 injury/wound
+15 taming vic/wild for like 42k i thnk
So BE's sell their tissues for at least 10-12K each, right?

I ran about 1000 of the Broad Spectrum Nutrients and having a difficult time selling them for 25K / Crate
Sorry to hear about that... what Nutrient Bonus are you getting? My 1000 runs of NB:85 are sold at 40k/crate faster than I can supply them.
I don't get what you are saying here. The chef's contribution is worth 20 credits?

What I'm saying is simple
The chef has the right to determine the worth of his/her contribution
So does the BE
This thread started with a chef saying that he sells dirt cheap but needs BEs to sell dirt cheap to him for a dirt cheap final product. Re-read the first post if you don't understand my comment

The difference between the tailor buying tissues and a chef buying tissues is the tailor doesn't tell me what to charge for my tissues. A chef has no problem at all telling me what my prices should be. By using the examples in this thread my price for tissues would be different for every single customer I have. You charge 100K for brandy and someone else charges 200K so my price to you should be cheaper? And what's to keep you from charging more for your brandy after I sell the cheap tissues to you?
The whole point is I don't give a rat's arse what you charge your customers. That's your business.I sell tissues. I don't sell food or clothing. By the same token I make my product soI get to say how much that product is worth. If you don't agree with the price you get to shop somewhere else.
Amandil, you nailed it right on the head without realizing it. The patch notes for chefs in publish 6 said bio-engineers could make enhancements for your food items but it would be difficult.
Additives allow you to boost one of the experimental food attributes by a significant amount. You can add an additive to boost the buff's power (nutrition), boost the duration (flavor), increase the yield (quantity), or decrease the stomach filling (filling).
There are three classes of additive: light, medium, and heavy. Each food has a slot for an additive class. Large slots can take a smaller additive, if need be (enabling you to use a light additive in a medium or heavy slot).
Good additives can be difficult to make, but the results are well worth it. Breath of Heaven has a slot for a "heavy" additive. The heavy nutrition tissue is called "Intelligent Nanonutrients," made by a Bio-Engineer. Using an additive made with this tissue in Breath of Heaven will result in a +1200 buff, instead of +500! That's without maxing out experimentation
"Normal" food items aren't meant to be enhanced for the simple reason its cost prohibitive. That's the error a lot of people in general are making. Additives are difficult and costly. It would only go to reason you'd sell more regular food than enhanced. And it goes to reason enhanced foods would cost more to the general public.
Couple things to keep in mind.
Alot of food is done with BE tissues but there are chefs making food without the additives. BEs don't want to feel burned out making chef tissues so there are a number I think like me who price at 20k, 35k, 40k a crate for the tissues but don't advertise cause we don't want the constant demand of getting crates out every day. I play more casually than that...tailor demand suits me more. But also I did have a contract for 12 crates of BSN every other day til the chef gave it up. There are chefs on SS complainin they can't find a BE to make tissues for them even tho none have ever asked me. There's other BEs thatmay bewilling if asked but aren't gonna try to find a chef. You might of asked a few BEs and gotten fed up but perhaps you need to just keep trying and looking or expanding your network of contacts. My tailor contacts knew me long before the tailor tissues became useful. It was all in the networking. You know someone in game and they are less likely to try pricing higher than what seems fair.

I love it how chefs come into our board and call us greedy. This chef doesn't want to be flamed, but starts a thread that encompases flaming in its definition.
I also love how chefs think meat comes flying out of our asses. It's all free to us, in their minds. 2 units of meat multiplied by 1000 is 20k of meat. Even if we're combatant, getting 20k of meat would definitely drive my own cost up. Just my 'time' in gathering the resources, insurance, cloning costs, travel.... It's all figured into the prices.
The bottom line? Chefs are just crybabies.
Woops, I meant 20 units, not 2.

I have both a Master Chef and a Master BE so feel I can add something to this thread.
Firstly, the BE enhancements are a pain to make. They require high quality materials for good ones and getting hold of 20k of decent meat is either very time consuming or very expensive. If meat was more plentiful and cheaper to buy, then so would additives. You then have to factor in the time to factory produce, my 87's are taking 186secs so a full run of 1000 would take almost 52 hours! When standing in town a chef asked me to make a schematic for him. I agreed if he would make a brandy schem for me from my resources as my chef wasn't master at the time, but you can guess the response ![]()
Secondly, for chef, the biggest pain is getting enough trim! Mr chef has taken up tailoring purely for that schematic as no tailor would be able to keep up with my demand. He also has 2 harvs permanently placed on gemstone and has to purchase gemstone as well. Some of my guild friends use food facts purely for storage, so I can use them to make initial ingrediants such as alcohol, dough and soypro. I then have 1 fact working non-stop on casks, 1 wearables working on trim, 1 on brandy and 1 on other foods. My BEuses hislots for harvs! This isn't even enough and i have the availablity to use up to 5 other facts from friends (bear in mind these are used for storage, so it's not possible for me to make anything that requires more than 3 stacks of resources.)
I'm very lucky with my setup, but I do feel for chefs who need to buy their BE additives in. If someone wants a schem from my BE, I always ask for resources in exchange. My BE additive factory never stops and I could probably do with 2, but I need the lots for harvesting. I prefer to sell the resources needed and the schem rather than have to make them myself.
In directreply to the thread starter, what you sell your stuff for is your business. That will fluctuate depending upon demand for your products and the same applies to my BE additives. I cannot go into a town without being asked by a Chef to sell him additives or make a schem these days. The usual excuse of "My regular BE is away for the week" just doesn't cut it with me as if you had a good enough arrangement with them surely they would have made you some schems before they left!
In summary, if someone wants a schem from me they will can CHOOSE to pay what I want to charge or not. My charges are resources and if people aren't prepared to share the best resources with me in payment, I'm not prepared to share my skills learned through a lot of hardwork and time. That is worth a lot more than you getting lucky and stockpiling loads of HQ resources in my mind.
