Template. DNA samples are our raw materials, and while they are different in many ways from the resources other crafters use, they are still the harvested resource. Templates are our crafted component, and the most important item we use. Our DNA and our skill and experimentation go into the template, and it is the defining factor in the process of creating the pet.

If we cannot get any agreement on crit fails anywhere else, if they can make the final "pet combine", which does not involve any experimentation or offer us any control beyond the selection of the "skin" and the color mask, return the template on a failure, we can suffer the loss of the resources there gracefully. I would hazard a guess that more than one BE player has hit the last straw over the loss of a multi-generation or high-level-DNA template on a "push-button" combine.

I'll add one more thought to this. If that cake that the chefs make actually worked to eliminate (or at least greatly greatly greatly) diminish critical failuresthis might not even be an issue for us. Buy a crate of that stuff, when you are making your biggest masterpieces and reduce your failure rate say from 5% to .5% or whatever, and I think everyone would be happy. Doesn't appear to work that way however.

My experience with cake is limited, maybe only used the stuff 30-40 times. I have not crit while using it. My crit rate is pretty low though, maybe one out of 40 - 50 times. I have however used a lot of port, over 1000 uses. Amazings are hard to come by no matter what, but I have hit 3 in a roll. I can say however that I have never had anything less than a great success while using port. That is using 15 tools, 44.5 station, research center city. So if the cake works like the port, then you are in good hands. The thing with the cake is though, I don't have manufacturing center, but research, so that bonus is lost. That does open the window a bit more for a crit fail, however I would still usecake even if I had to buy it.

Been there - done that. The only solution I've tried that actually works is to replace your crafting tools. It seems they wear out, even though you can't see any reduction like you can with a weapon or armor (i.e. 750/1000). The tools themselves are easy to make and relatively cheap to buy.

I'd love to hear a conflicting view of this, but every time I start having more than usual failures, I replace the tools and problem is solved.

Been replacing my crafting tools about one a week because of the high volume of work with JTL

In this patch they removed the critical assembly fails..but since this timer i have had 3 critical assemblies while making pets, including loss of Hard to obtain DNA. Again the devs abuse us BE's . Were have the magical "secret lab data" that is yet to appear after over a year, we have the bugged pet crafting system that is soo poorly done, that exploitation of it is common place. WE cannot do a damn thing when it comes to becoming force sensitive, and heck anymore we have been regualted to an alt char profession by chefs, and even the few remaining CH's..

But this really irks me, Im to the point to ask the SOE devs to either fix the profession or shoot it and put it out of its misery

I played a Jedi , but decided easy mode was too easy

This has been reported by ever effecient Arthur (/salute) who created a thread for this and it seems [*checks stickies*] that he must have enough data to suffice for the devs. The thing is the pet crafting system is completely seperate to all other crafting systems so are ours isn't effected unless it is explicitly altered additionaly. Yes we know there is a lot wrong with BE and if you watch, vote and discuss the Top 5 Issues - hopefully we can get something done. Remember, check out the CH, Tailor and Chef forums and see if you can help push for BE related issues in their top 5

I dropped Master Bio-engineer yesterday over these very things. I lost 5 batches of DNA. Reported it to a CRS, and was told they did not have any record of me using DNA samples!!!! Was also told the game was operating as intended, and that you don't get the material back in a critical failure

I then pointed out to the CRS that this had been changed, and prompted them to read the Publish Archive. March

Hotfix Publish

Version 0.114815

Crafting

There are no longer critical fails on crafting (which would previously destroy components involved)

They came replied back that there had been a misunderstanding. Asked me when and where the critical failure happened. I sent them a copy of the /bug report I sent.
I was contacted in game by a CRS, who promptly told me that there was a known issue effecting Bio-engineers and crafting, and that sometimes you don't get the materials back after a critical failure. And because DNA samples are classed as a loot item, there was no chance of me getting them back either.
I think the fact that samples are classed as loot is the key here. No two samples are the same, if the CSR admits that they can't track us using any samples in the crafting process, then it looks like when there is a critical failure, the data about those samples has not been stored anywhere, hence, you don't get them back. I would say its a server side problem not client side. I did once get back DNA after a failure, but that was after the original Hotfix It never happened after the other publishes.

At the start of the year I had real hopes for this game, it looked like the Devs were really moving forward with the bug fixes, but now I'm not so sure.

When the CU finally comes out, you know it will be bugged, it will take them months to re-balance it to how people like it, and will introduce even more bugs.

I just lose my dna in a critical failure.

Am i going to report it to a csr? NO they WONT do nothing, is a busy life trying to look like they do something.

Dont get me wrong am not upset or anything i feel unapreciated i pay the same amount of money as the other players with diferents proffesions and they are more a priority.

p.s. i still not happy wookies are getting a new planet and the armor.. he was the sidekick of the smuggler

In theory, if it exists in the DB, you can claim if from a resource deed...
