Thread: Are we as BE getting the worst share of the pie??

Animosity goes both ways actually. Not all that long ago it wasn't uncommon for a chef or group of chefs to come to this forum and dictate tissue prices to BE. Seriously. They actually thought they could set the prices for BE tissues. If I told a chef what the price for their brandy should be do you think they would change their price and thank me for pointing out their error?
You know, it's got nothing to do with chef/BE relationship. Things started rough granted, but they would have turned sour no matter what. This is a very negative forum, be it with chef tissues, pets or any other issues. This is the only profession forum I know of that the correspondent is regularly one stared for posting a very neutral informative post. I also don't think it is just a one 'one star ninja'. I think there are several people thatare almost always negative or just one star everything and move on. That really sets the tone. Why people say they generally get along fine with other professions in the game, but here it is one big flame fest after another.
Even us old architects that did pricing discussions long ago when people were trying to make a difference for that profession never got this negative. We were getting screwed but we never went after each other or had much hatred toward any other profession that used our products and made more money with our products than we ever could. The negativity and mean spiritness just wasn't there. It is here on this forum and in full force. That is the real problem. Most people have worked out arrangements in game in some form or another and can use /ignore when they have a problem with someone. Not true here is seems.

Just a quick note: the chef correspondant responsible for the 'trolling' and stalking of a BE was SirVimes, not SciGuy - SciGuy is a great guy and he'd never do something so petty I'm sure.

In his defense, SirVimes was getting pretty burned out at that point. That doesn't necessarily excuse his behavior, just a possible explanation.
Pricing conflicts between BEs and Chefs are probably going to be with us indefinitely. Due to our customers' needs/wants,we chefs are basically required to use tissues, non-enhanced foods almost never sell, no matter what the price. That change in the revamp was the cause of a lot of bad feelings, which were unfairly dumped on BEs by some posters. Other crafters do have similar dependencies, but the only ones that come close to Chef/BE would probably be DE/Master Artisan (leading a lot of DEs to pick up MA) and Armorsmith/Tailor. Both of those involve professions branched off of Artisan (so an armorsmith can pick up tailor spending a relatively few amount of skill points), and for the most part the components' quality doesn't matter. Neither of those conditions exist for BE/Chef.
Umm....wait...where was I going with this....
Oh yeah. Right now, my Brandy profit is roughly 2-3k per stack. The majority of the manufacturing cost is due to the BE tissue, which seems fair to me since that's contributing to the majority of the quality. I admit that's more profit than the BE is making (at 40k per crate, he/she would only be getting 1600 gross income per BSN) but is it really that much more? And for less popular food/drinks, my profit margin is even slimmer.
I'm not looking to get into a "my costs are more than your costs" or "I do more work than you"argument, I think those have been beaten to death. I'm just trying to find a little perspective from both sides of the fence. I have been lucky enough to run into some very nice BEs who provide high-quality, high-quantity (almost as important) tissues for (in my opinion) a fair price.
Now if you'll excuse me, I need to go stare at some very nice meat/flora resources that fell into my hands and are crying out to be made into BSNs and INNs. I just need to figure out how to get them into that form (and preferably into my hands) without sounding like I'm trying to buy a schematic...
