Bio Engineer Archive
Thread: The Former BioEngineer Forum.
I've been trying to figure out what to do in these last days of SWG1. My first thought was to grind FS for the second slot, then I realized that the first guessed ETA from test center was a week later than what Tiggs said and I have no chance of making that deadline. So, my second idea was to grind up swords to reach lvl 80 for the respec. That sounded like no fun at all.
Instead I wandered in here to see how my old profmates were taking the news. You've inspired me to regrind my Field Scientist title. That was probably the best title I've ever worn.
I remember ZenLoser and baby DNA. I stuck with it until after the BE revamp when RL made it difficult to devote the time needed to do the prof justice. I still own an original bugged Blurrg. Now with both CH and BE gone, the little thought that I might return and bring my pets out of mothballs is gone too. All I have is my gurrcat (Tiny) to keep me company, and a house full of moving statues.
So long guys. Don't know what I'll do with Evolver now... I don't see how he could be anything other than a tinkering scientist ![]()
It's been real.
Guys? I have been having a few thoughts. Does anyone know anyone in the press? The thing is ... BE and CH were very special in the game.
CH was very very appealing to women players. I know a lot of women who chose to go CH. Now prove me wrong, but it seems to me that game makers are always looking for the games that engage GIRLS! To have a part of a game that engages without requiring combat - which is what the new CH system was designed to be - well .... seems to me someone in the press would be very interested in ridiculing SOE for throwing that away when you'd found the winning formula. We'd need to know the stats of what proportion of players were women and how many of those chose CH ... shouldn't be too difficult to ASK ...
As for BE. BE was a complex and artificial laboratory that could potentially have been used by real-life biology students in high school and university to do experiments with. You needed a good understanding of math to do tissues properly - I can imagine exercises to get kids to predict which will combine to form what values given the information we had. And they could experiment to see if they got it right ... it would have been engaging and instructive.
Pet - making ... well ... we all know how complicated it was. It could have been used to teach youngsters about keeping notes and experimentation. To start with a hypothesis and follow thru to get what you wanted. It was unique in gaming.
Instead of cutting BOTH from the game, SOE could have used them to hook young players in schools and bring in more customers to its game. They would also have gotten a lot of positive press about being innovative and educational. There was an article on the BBC news site not that long ago detailing a story about how Electronic Arts is now running a pilot program in some UK High schools to learn thru gaming. SOE could have had this too and WAY better than getting people to play the Sims.
I think this is an idea worth following thru. If you have access to the correspondants forum, Lammergeier, would you please post this so SOMEONE at SOE/LA might possiblysee it. And if anyone here has relatives or any contacts in the press - how about flying it past them? I don't know anyone myself - spend too much time in-game and with my family to meet important people ![]()

Wow....a friend of mine told me today that SWG was implementing yet another major change. Haven't played for a few months now, but I didn't expect all the doom sayers to be true in SWG really wanting to do away with CH and BE. They've modified it so many times to now just be scrapping it? I really don't get it. My hats off to all the BEs that have stuck thru it in thick and thin. It did have it's good moments, though it did seem likesuccessive publishes this year just made it less and less appealing. You all have been the best online community I've known.
