I guess Cookie - what you are saying is that having +3 pet slots with the potential of 5 level 10 pets is like getting novice CH for free. I can see that this would be a problem if I were not asking for novice CH to get +3 slots as well...
As for the fighting ability of level 10-12 pets ... I am a novice CH. I am level 41. Yesterday I went out with my level 10-12 pets to do missions. I have only one pet that knows the group command - my level 10 varactyl. I had him fighting level 39 bantha. Bascially I had to spend the entire time healing him - if i had trying to fight as well, he would have been toast. Also I wanted max CH xp so it wasn't an option but i was still healing him the whole time.
I can't imagine anyone just picking up novice CH for the pet slots - it's a lot of skill points unless you happen to already be a scout or ranger. Novice CH by itself seems ... well ... put it this way ... the difference between the pistol tree of marksman and novice pistoleer is noticeable in improvement (or at least it used to be pre-CU). The difference between having a level 10 pet and having a level 12 pet is not so noticable. I can't imagine anyone picking up novice CH who doesn't have plans to go further with it.
I agree that there should be a distinct difference between CH and non-CH ... but it seems to me that upping the starting level of novice CH pets to 20 (hehe and letting masterCH's to use up to level 80 pets!!!) would be a much more potent way of doing it than by restricting non-CH's number of pets.
If non-CH's want to have 5 pets - why not let them - the level 10's do not appear to be much help at all as fighting partners except perhaps if you are a low-level character yourself. And if you ARE such a low-level character than you will not BE a CH, and also you are likely to BECOME a CH anyway at some point since you have bothered to go out and get a pet and get it trained ... thus showing a definate interest in pets.
another 2 credits from me,
Dor
Dor I love you,
You just put things so well. Haveing the base number of pets raised to 5 equaling the 5 droids we can have now (compared to 3 pets total droids included way back in the day) would be a great thing. I also think CH's should be able to handle CL 20 pets at novice and cl 80's at master, but they will likely never do that
. Not to mention as you said if a player actualy goes out and gets 5 pets he will likely go for novice CH and work on that showing he/she likes the pet system and wants to use it more.
5 Slots also opens it up for those non CH players to have mounts and a house pet or dance partner if they want. and that CL 10 pet doesnt help much even when fighting CL 20's not like your CL 30 droid thats for sure.
well thats my few credits see ya!

More slots for non-CH pets means more stuff for us to train since non-handlers cannot teach their own pets anything. Their effectiveness is negligable in combat so they aren't infringing on our skills now that CL 10 pets are equivalent to CL 10 pets. I'm really not sure why Cookie is so adamant against it, but we all have our own views.
I would take everyone getting the slots if it meant I could get them since my pad is always full and there is always something more for me to tame.

Seems I still didnt make my point clear....
Ok, Ill get to the point, You want more pets? Get Novice CH
I still don't get your point... I am a Master CH... I want more pets... andI have no problem with non-CHs being allowed 3 more pets either. It's not like CL 10 pets are of any use in combat (a CL 30 droid is much more useful... and anyone can have up to 5 droids).
