You must be bugged. Are you recieveing an error rmessage that your datapad is full or simply failing a LOT. At 4424 I tamed my first 2 Rancors, a Gnarled and a normal one. The Gnarled took many tries but the normal took over an hour and a half of tame, peace, run, tame, etc... Hopefully it is just repeated tame failures and no bug.

Perserverence paid off but it was a long haul. Kinda fun dodging a bunch of aggro adults trying to calm the sucker down enough to tameagain.

Rancors in general are strange mobs, IMO. I went most of a day hunting them on Dathomir without success, then the next day got 3 Rancor and 5 Gnarled Rancor babies!

I lost several babies because when they aggro'ed me and I ran away, chased by the whole family, and came back after things quieted down - or so I thought - I found them all beating on each other! Mommy was clawing at Daddy, Uncle was chewing on them both, everyone of them was bellowing in rage, and Baby was trying to get his licks in on anybody he could. LOL. Once they're in that mode, forget about trying to tame the baby. I sadly watched as a couple got killed in that fashion.

Some of the babies took me a looooong time and many, many tries. Others would get tamed on the very first attempt. No rhyme or reason to it all. I was 4-4-1-4 at the time. I haven't gone back to do it again since Master, so can't tell if it would be any easier now.

But the whole process was very exhilarating. Nothing like walking away from a Rancor lair with a mean, ugly little baby following your every step.

Yes, rancors ARE a weird bunch. I failed 38 times with 4/4/0/4 trying to tame a baby rancor. I got 3 gnarled rancors in a combined total of 8 tame attempts. /shrug

Going back as a master, I got one on my second or third try. They are a weird lot and yes, they do kill each other inlcuding babies.

Getting one solo is very tough as you'll rarely see one out and around. I highly recommend assemblinga group of friends and milking lairs for babies.

I'm not really sure what you mean by this.
If he's got a special ability, it will show up in the datapad. And if you've used him enough to gain 4 skill slots, then its likely you've learned his ability.

Anakin: Master, I think my lightsaber is getting dull. Its not doing nearly as much damage as it used to.
Obi-Wan: O.k. when we're done showing the youglings around the temple, we'll stop by the bazaar and you can buy a new crystal. I hope you've got a couple million credits saved up for this.
Anakin: WHAT?!!?? I don't have THAT kind of cash!
Obi-Wan: Well you could try sharpening it on these younglings. I've got a headache and all their questions are driving me NUTS!
Anakin: hmmm.... Sharpen my lightsaber on younglings...... hmmmmmm.....
Obi-Wan: uh, that was a joke Anakin. I'll spot you the cash for a new crystal THIS time, but next time you're on your own.

Open your data pad.

Click on the rancor.

On the left side of data pad you see all stats listed.

If you see ABILITIES, it means it has whatever ability is listed. This is the ability you learn from it.

If you DO NOT SEE ABILITIES the you cannot learn anything from it! No matter how much you roll its XP.

Not all babies from same creature have abilities. I had to tame a few Gaping Spider Hunter Babies before I found one with ability. Same with Gaping Spider Queen, and a few others.

Once you learn an ability from a pet, you can teach it to your rancor.

Did your rancor actually COME with a special ability when you tamed him? What I mean is... when you tamed him as a baby, did he have any special abilities that he already knew under the abilities listing for him in your datapad or not? If he did not come with a special ability originally, then you need to learn special abilities from other creatures you tame in the wild FIRST, then you can teach them to your rancor using histrainable 4 slots you've opened.

Good luck
