The macro for grinding BE Crafting experience does let you critical fail. You just dont get the message. You can tell when you did though because a crafting station that should be crafting will not be counting down the time.

In reading the BE FAQ I came across the following macro command...
/selectDraftSchematic 158
I would like to know how I am able to tell the number of the draft schematic that I am suppose to use when creating a crafting nacro? The draft schematics don't have any corresponding numbers to them as far as I can tell by looking in the datapad. So where did the inventor get this number from? (NOTE: I said inventor because the author freely admits that he did not create the macro)
If you look at you datapad (not sorted by name) you can get a good approximation of the number of each schematic by just counting from the first one (schematic #0). Be aware that proximity to a personal or private crafting station can affect the schematics you have available, so when writing your macros decide if you are going to craft next to one.
Count the schematics left to right, top to bottom, until you reach the schematic you want to craft. Put this value into your macro and run it as a test. If you got it right the first time, congratulations! Otherwise, see what came up in your crafting attempt and compare its position in the datapad to the item you want. Adjust your number accordingly and test again. It shouldn't take more than three tries to zero in on the number you want.
Remember that as you go up in levels you will be learning new schematics and this may cause the desired schematic number to change.
Thanks for the answer to that question. I take it that this is more of a excersise in trial and error creating that macro or any macro for crafting.
There's much of this guide that needs updating and/or correcting.
For holo grinders, I would suggest doing all your sampling first before you start on your crafting binge. Because you can craft all the samples you get, you'll be getting crafting experience from the start.
And don't let all those samples go to waste, when your inventory fills, turn them all into templates, then into the highest exp creature you have in your list. By the time you finish your Sampling tree, you should have at least one or more of your crafting boxes completed too. That puts you ahead in the grinding game.
Don't sample yard trash, you get very little exp for the sample as well as low crafting exp on the template. I got 2500 exp on 4 inventory fills of DNA from yard trash, and 3000 exp inONE inventory fill on Endor. So that's 20 good samples (which give great exp) VS 80 yard trash samples (which give very little exp).
When you sample aggros that you will not fight, ride your vehicle right up within 15m, jump off, /sampledna, and jump back on your ride. If they attack, all you have to do is go. (you will continue to sample while you have already mounted your vehicle)
Also, make a macro for a fast getaway for when you walk away from your vehicle:
/target X25 (targets the X25 Speeder)
/mount
/mount
/mount (gives you 3 chances to mount the vehicle just in case you aren't in range)
So when you get aggro'd, run for your vehicle and start spamming this macro and you will be on your bike and fleeing rather quickly.
Frequently Asked Questions in reference to Bio-Engineers, Pets, Clothing and Food.
A. – In order to become a Novice Bio-Engineer you will need to acquire the two novice skills Novice Scout, and Novice Medic. From the scout skill display you will need to obtain the skills Hunting I through IV. From the Novice Medic you will need to obtain Organic Chemistry I through IV.
A. – Bio-Engineers are only able to make creatures that are listed in their skill level for that profession. This includes the Novice Bio-Engineer & Master Bio-Engineer block. A listing of creatures can be obtained from the skill blocks Clone Engineering I through IV. You can obtain this listing by pressing the CTRL+S keys and clicking on the tab listed All Professions. Then choose the profession and its corresponding skill block.
A. – No, they are not able to sample the DNA of any creature when it is in battle with another creature, player, or NPC.
A. – This happens because of the trauma induced by the DNA sampling. As you go up the DNA Harvesting ladder the chances of trauma to the creature will be decreased.
A. – You can see the level that you are able to harvest by pressing the CTRL+S keys to get to the Skill Display. Then choose the profession Bio-Engineering. (Make sure that you are on the tab My Character) You will see a separate window called ‘My Skill Mods’. Scroll through this until you see a line labeled DNA Harvesting. The number donated next to this will determine the level of creature that you can sample DNA from.
A. – Non Creature Handlers are only able to control creatures up to level 10. Novice Creature Handlers are able to control creatures up to level 12 and any additional skill level that they obtain for their profession.
A. – Non-Creature Handlers are only able to keep two creatures in their Data Pad at any time. A Novice Creature Handler is able to keep ten creatures in their Data Pad and any additional skill level number of creature increase that they obtain for their profession.
A. – Pet deeds do not come with commands for the pet. In order for the Pet to be trained you must take it to a Creature Handler to give it a set of commands.
A. – Only those Bio-Engineers who have obtained Novice, or above Creature Handling skills. Those with Novice Creature Handling skills are able to only teach it for the commands Attack, Store, and Follow. Those with above Creature Handling skills will be able to give it more commands in accordance to the skills obtained for that profession.
A. – A pet that is tamed by a Creature Handler will only have the average Health, Action, and Mind that is in accordance with the level of the pet. In other words; the level of the creature determines the average stats for that creature. A Bio-Engineered pet can either have average or above average stats depending on what DNA samples are compiled and the DNA template constructed, which is one of the main components used to make a Bio-Engineered creature. However, a Bio-Engineered creature will have below average damage stats as apposed to the tamed creature that has the average damage stats for it.
A. – A pet deed is a creature that has been created by a Bio-Engineer much like a building deed or a droid deed. This allows for the creature to be contained in inventory and to be soled via Buzzaars.
A. – Yes, those who have acquired the skill block Novice Bio-Engineer can craft what is called a Pet Stimpak. A Novice Bio-Engineer who has acquired the skill block of Tissue Engineering I is able to craft a Pet Vitality Pack.
A. – Yes, a Pet Stimpack is used to restore the Health, Action, and Mind of the Pet after they have suffered damage. A Pet Vitality pack is used to heal the vitality of a pet due to it being brought to a near death experience during combat.
A. – No, a Pet Stimpack or Vitality Pack will not cure a Pet’s wounds. However, any Novice Medic or Doctor who has acquired the approiate medical skill will have the ability to cure pet wounds.
A. – No, unless they are also Tailors or Chefs. Otherwise, Bio-Engineers can only make certain components such as clothes and additives that enhance clothing or food. These enhancements may give protection or skill bonuses to the wearer of the clothing.
A. – The two types of clothing are field wear and casual clothing.
A. – You will need to know the type of skill modifier (Note: not command ‘modifier’ such as camouflage or sent mask), and the type of clothing i.e.. Field wear or casual. The same goes for food additives.

Okie, I have sat for 2 hours now trying to figure out why it keeps telling, "FAILED to load macros.txt". I could wrote a regular macro by hand in less time. I checked everything from spaces where they shouldnt be, to adjusting spaces. I copied and pasted like you said, and followed your directions to the letter, even checked multiple times to make sure I wasnt missing anything.
Now, please dont get me wrong, Im not trying to flame you for this, but it gets frustrating when I see some else has the same problems and know one answers.

Thank you for the great FAQ. I'm having a problem with the grinding macro though. Whenever using a special crafting station to make anything "Special" I get "crafting completed" spammed a couple times and nothing was practiced/created and no experience is gained. I do lose the materials though. It doesn't happen with constrictor cloths or anything I can make without using the Food and Chem station. I have gone through the process step by step manually and when the dialogue box appears with the options to 1)experiment 2)create a prototype 3)create a manufacturing schematic I typed in /createPrototype which results in the box disappearing, no further screens popup and I get the crafting session ended message with nothing created or practiced, no experience gain but I do lose the materials.
Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a workaround? Thanks in advance for any help offered.
