Youseem to be pretty clever... haveyou came up with a logical pricing formula as of yet? Im looking for something that put my uber mutant rancor dna pets (cl 65-70) at a price around 400-500k and then go down from there. My biggest problem is i can get a good formula for pricing uber pets but when i use the same formula on my lower lvl (not so uber) pets they are too high priced.

Obviously there is alot of debate regarding the issue of appropriate pet pricing. Since there is no set guidlines regarding pricing it can be extremely difficult deciding on a strategy.

Here are a few things to keep in mind when deciding on, and testing out, pricing schemes:

  • It is better to start off with a higher price than a lower one - if your prices need adjusting its much easier to lower prices (or offer discounts) rather than raise them. This avoids players hiring Bounty Hunters to take you out.

  • Judge your prices by Supply vs Demand - If you can't sell any pets prices are to high... if you can't keep your vendor stocked prices are to low etc... a good balance is when Supply is slightly higher than Demand.

  • Remember that you need to Advertise your Product. If no one knows who you are or what you have to offer then you won't get sales. I personally prefer discreet emails for this, you can formulate a written Advertisement that is catchy and gets attention and attach a waypoint to your vendor, this allows players to investigate your product at will and avoids /shout spam. Your friends list is your friend here, you can send an email to everyone on your friends list in one hit.

Everyone values their work differently, only you can decide what that value is, you and the market place that is

I dont price my pets the way you guys do. If I make a CL 35 pet with 60 kinetic, He will go for as much money as a CL 45 with 60 kinetic.. why? because I use the same stuff to make them.

If the price you charge don't sell, you are charging too much. If people buy all your good stuff 1 hour after you put it on the sale and everyone else goes without for the next 23 hours, your prices are too low... The market will tell you what to charge. If the market does not allow a profit, you can either wait it out for other over ambitious BE's to run out of stuff or sell something else.

There are a number of sellers who only sell at a price they call fair. That economic system I did not read about in school. Those same people though have tendencies twords socialism and I did read about that in the enormous pile of failed economic systems.

Tal, that was my point. If I charge half as much for a CL 10 as I did for a CL 20, I would never do CL 10's, lol. Or did I read your chart wrong?

Sorry i misread and thought you were saying why do I charge more for CL10 pets because if you look at the hybrids a CL20 pet would cost 20k while a CL10 would cost 30k. Thats becuase like I said it's more of a pain to make them, so yeah you read my chart wrong and I missread what you said

If you want to make as much money as possible then yes this is true, once you pass the 1 million mark and have a months worth of maintain for all your buildings then you don't need to make as much money anymore. That's also why I don't bother with a vendor cause it just brings the money in faster meaning that I then feel obligated to produce more stuff at a faster rate. Instead I like to simply keep things in stock, that way when someone contacts meI will usually have something already prepared for them.

I have been thinking of getting a merchant to provide a vendor for a few things in Thalialike petstims and stuff, since it sounds like Fairchild will be moving on from BE soon there's going to be alot of people wanting stuff which she usually provides by working her ass off to keep her vendor full.

I won't take too much offense at your poke at CH since I don't know if you have any of it, but I know that I've seldom had one trip in and tamed in the first try. I got my first TMB a few weeks ago and I counted, the result was 15 attempts with success finally on the 16th. All the while I'm standing around waiting to run since various aggressive critters were wandering in and out of the mask scent check radius. IIRC I only had to run twice on this one as opposed to how many times you'd have to if you were trying for something with a high ferocity.

So while I don't necessarily disagree that their prices may be too low, CH isn't as easy as you seem to think in my opinion.

I sell my great pets at 25-30K apiece. Everyone get to enjoy them. And usually if you treat them right they come back for more pets and stims. You figure how much it costs for 200 units of whatever organics. At 4 CPU I am still making 24-29K in profit. I can explore the planets and have fun and everyone I meet can have pets to enjoy. People are too greedy, I just wanna have fun

Doh! I missed the "disclaimer" about non-ch pets below your chart, hehe, that makes perfect sense now! I was gonna say... Tal make non-ch pets for 10k???

Here is my current pricing system. I rarely try to sell a pet without armor, so assuming Light Armor:

Health Credits
9k 10k

10k 20k
11k 30k
12k 40k
13k 50k
--------------------
Kinetic/Energy
30s 5k
40s 10k
45s 20k
50s 30k
55s 40k
60s 50k
--------------------
Attack Speed < 2.2 5k
Attack Speed < 2.1 10k
Attack Speed < 2.0 15k
--------------------
To Hit >= 0.45 5k
To Hit >= 0.50 10k
To Hit >= 0.55 15k
To Hit >= 0.60 20k
--------------------
Damage >= 300, 10k
Damage >= 350, 20k
Damage >= 400, 30k
Damage >= 450, 40k
Damage >= 500, 50k
Damage >= 550, 60k
--------------------
Blind,Stun,Dizzy,Crip,Intim 10k
KD,Med Pois,Str Dis 15k
Str Poison 20k
--------------------
Ranged 10k

--------------------

Finally, subtract 15k

My best pets are about 225k with this formula. The worst pets are about 65k.

Pricing does not take into account CL 35ish or CL 23ish pets. Have rarely made CL 23ish pets, and I used to add a bonus for CL 35ish, but I'm waiting for next patch before selling any of those. Been accumulating CL 35ish pets in my house with Light Armor and either 60% Kinetic or 60% Energy. Been optimizing my recipes for them while I wait for patch.

I use a system I call the "I'm Cheap System". Basically I ask myself how much would I pay for this pet? Is this pet worth it's stats in it's CL? I usualy start with 1k per pet level. Then I dont' calc based on (amount of health) = This much Credits. I take the base CL and then add 10k if it has armor and then minus above or below that depending on it's stats after that. If I believe it's specials are worth it I will raise the prices. For example one pet I made with was level 38 had 10k of ham, Light Armor, 60 Kinetic and Energy and resists down the line but only 240 damage and Knockdown and Dizzy for specials IIRC. I priced it at 80k. Some may think this is priced way low and some may think it's priced way high. I just price it and hope people think it's worth it. Most of my pets are close to CL though and I don't really aim for anything over CL 40 in my vendor.

All I can say.

Is that im glad im not on a lot of you guys servers.

Ill still shop with my local BE that doesnt charge insane credits ( 50 - 60 k tops on mostfor a half decent pet.

All your really doing by charging insane money is geting CH's to go out and use wild pets.

Mabe some of the players who have been on since the start will have those kind of creds to throw round, but not all of us are millionairs.

If I can throw a CH side in here. (I'm only a novice BE and haven't found a market for one-legged, half-blind kaadus yet!)

The newer breed of CHs, those after or right before the patch, don't have the credits like the old ones do. We're not as valuable and have to work a lot to make 50K, not counting expenses to make it. If you're selling pets for 500K plus, I'm gonna mark that vendor off my list and never bother to go back. So once you burn through those who have the million credits, you won't have a market.

Meat and hides are now selling for 5-10 times what they used to since the scouts and CHs don't have a market for much else. I end up keeping around 100k most of the time, sometimes as low as 1/2 that after restocking pet stims, etc.

Tal's prices seem pretty fair, and he doesn't seem to be hurting for credits. What do you do with 4 mill anyway?

Well I personally feel a bio pet is far more than a wild one..For one we take our time to go hunting down the dna, not always easy but some of us have our spots. Two a bio pet is more dependable and can be in a shell that you appreciate (people love cat shells). And finally how many people you know can have a pet with light armor at a low ch level and it not be a bio?

I have my own formula and it goes like so.

Level = 1k per

per 10% kinetic res + 5k (this is what people use to tank animal missions)

Each additional Res. 5k if over 10%, 10k if over 50%

Health 9-10k additional 10k

Health 11-15k additional 15k

Special attacks 5k per attack except Strong Disease ,Strong Poison,and Knockdown those are 15k per special.

I did it once dunno if it was a bug or what but I made a level 81 kimo with Force Strike..So if its a rare or something cool..But I have not been able to do it again..For that attack I would add 100k to the pets price.

And of course if it has light armor I double the price..There is no reason any light armor pet should be cheap. Light armor deducts 50% off the top not counting what res it has when you make it as well..Light armor pets are tanks no matter what the res they have so that alone makes them twice as much..I have seen many on my server that sell them for cheap and thus are hurting the market soon everyone will have one because everyone can afford one..Not how it was meant to be IMHO.

Then finally after it is popped out of the hopper I reveiw the pet and make slight adjustments depending on how I feel the pets overall result looks..I do not adjust more than 15k however.

That is my method of pricing and I would encourage all bios to try it on a pet and see how you like the result in the ending cost..And actually think about how valuable a light armor pet is..I mean common.
