Thread: CH's ready to tar and feather.

btw Matsubaacan u tell me what a BE purist is?? a BE that wants to be able to make pets for CH's ?? LOL
The BE purist to which I was referring was the CH who only commands the BE pets. Typically their decision isn't based on "I only want BE pets" but "I only want the very best of the best".
As for the MCH who claims not to have noticed the nerfs, I'm terribly skeptical. The nerfs have affected every CH from top to bottom. The beginners have less incentive to keep at it and the masters have less variety to choose from.
As to the taming comment, let me clarify.
To tame and train petsis the defining role of the creature handler. The fact that they can fight with them later is not unique to creature handlers, this should be evident from the use of non-CH pets, as well as combat droids. The fact that we use pets in combat is not unique and I'm not arguing that it should be. I am arguing that the unique and defining feature of our profession has had it's usefulness reduced immensely.
The defining role of the bio-engineer is to produce artificially engineered biological products. Be they tissues, food additives, creatures or anything else you can produce, your unique purpose is *not* to produce pets for creature handlers.
In their essences, bioengineering and creature handling have no conflict. In their implementation they are stepping on each others' toes. Your *peripheral* purpose has interfered with the creature handlers' *defining* purpose. I can't see any way that this is the right and proper way for things to be. There can be no denying that the overwhelming superiority of bio-engineered pets and the nigh-extinct rarity of decent, nevermind comparable, wild pets has taken some of the magic out of the CH profession. Maybe it's a magic some players won't miss but that doesn't obligate me to quietly give up on what I loved about my chosen profession.
Ya know. You really can't blame the two professions for the mess that was caused. It's the devs' fault for creating the rift between BE's and CH's.
First of all with the uber non-CH or low CL uber CH pets. After being told Creature Handlers were being nerfed for the sake of balance...many of us were standing around thinking..."What?..."
I don't think all wild tameables should be better than be. I think it should go like this...
Wild--Rare--BE--Super Rares. That's not too much to ask is it? Especially considering that our best rare, the Bull Rancor, that only has a mere 35% kinetic resist takes months to find for some. And even then, it's a big maybe. Why bother spending that much time looking? A status symbol? A trophy? No thanks...there is no justification for it.
Supposedly CH's were nerfed to prevent over powered dabblers. But apparently, that's not true. Since one can still dabble have have light armor good kinetic resist, good HAM pets. There is still little point to being MCH now.
Oh, and since Publish 6, CH has been rendered unplayable for many. Pets are running around like headless chickens now! It's pathetic.
CH's have had to deal with THE MOST grief of any profession in this game. And for what reason? Because we can control a rancor? Somehow, everything bad about SWG was and apparently still is a CH's fault. Sorry, but it has made many of us bitter. And TH's rather ignorant remarks towards us have only made it worse.
Why don't you try being nerfed just for the sake of the community and see how friendly you remain...

The ability to fight with an effective pet IS unique to Creature Handlers. My cat can tank 3 mutant rancors long enough for me to recover from incap and get away. Good though CL10 BE pets and probots might be, I can't see one doing that. You can't seriously believe that any pet is as useful in combat as any other?
The ability to train pets IS unique to Creature Handlers. Show me the non-CH who can train group, mount, trick 1, transfer ...
The ability to bring new pets into the game is NOT unique to Creature Handlers. It is shared with BEs.
Now let's compare with, I don't know, let's say Musicians. The ability to heal BF is not unique, it is shared with Entertainers and Dancers. The ability to buff mind stats is not unique, it is shared with Chefs and Smugglers. The ability to cure mind damage is not unique, it's shared with Docs. Nope, no unique abilities here.
BEs? To make new pets - not unique, shared with CH. To make skill enhancing tissues - unique but another class gets to make the final product and sell it. Food buffs - not unqiue, Chef can do it without us, though they need us to make the best stuff. They still own the saleable end product though. Pet stims? No longer unique, Chefs get pet heal foods now, and normal stims will still heal pets, albeit inefficiently.
Which is why I'm a CH. A truly unique and very valuable ability - to be able to tank in top level PvE combat without getting killed.
Oh and by the way, I find CH is real good fun to play
(BE is very rewarding, but not always what I'd call "fun")
Your example is weak, the musicians buff the focus and willpower stats, very distinctly different from the dancers' mind *pool* buff.
Speaking as a wookiee, the BE tissues are absolutely essential. They're the only protection I can have whatsoever and I am very glad to have them. Your abilities are absolutely unique, though you don't seem to appreciate them because it takes another profession to make use of most of them. To make proper use of my CH skills I need decent pets provided by either my taming or your engineering. I need another combat profession to aid me in hunting, either my own or someone else's. To make use of my carbineer skills I need weapons provided by someone else. You are not unique in being dependent in order to ply your trade.
Obviously one pet is *not* just as good as another. That's what makes a creature handler unique *in combat*. Different professions bring different items to the table in terms of combat. If you must have an example in terms of combat, insisting that BE and CH should be in conflict over the creation of pets is akin to insisting that Commandos andPistoleers should be in conlfict because they both use some variety of pistol.
The issue has been pushed on us again and again by the Devs that the CHs' position in the game is *not* to be the high-level tanks because it gives us too much power. These last changes to our professionhave almost accomplished this, albeit by attacking the pets' stats rather than adjusting the mobs or the players to a "fair" competitive level. Then the BEs have suddenly arrived at a new level of power, creating pets as good or better than our previous favorites. This shattered the Devs credibility on the issue of us being too powerful.
We are as powerful as we ever were, it's just that our unique abilities are less useful and consequently less fun. Bio-Engineers aren't the source of our problem, they're just the sharpened edge of a much larger machine.

If you read what I wrote, my example did not compare musician buffs with dancer buffs. Yes, they are different. BF healing isn't.
I recognise that we are less powerful. We do, however, have a unique ability: to use a pet to do serious, effectivetanking. That is a really major thing.

Wehave another unique ability: to give a pet commands other than attack, store and follow. That is useful, too.
That's two decentunique abilities, one combat and one craft.
Maybe not the best in the game (Architect and Doc have some nice ones) but better than some classes which have none at all.
Personally, I'd like it if some rare pets were tameable that were the equal of a good BE pet - or, say, better than a BE pet in some niche role. I like the "treasure hunt". Though by and large the philosophy of the game seems to be "best crafted > best drops", presumably to discourage the camping game.
Anyway, at the end of the day it comes down to having fun, and if you're not having fun that's not good. For me, CH is fun.
In passing, I wonder how smugglers feel about the chef changes? I'd say they have more cause to complain.
