Thread: Wow, DNA sampling.
As a MBE/MCH/Merch 0004, I have a CL rating of 57. So far, I haven't really tried to do any serious DNA sampling...and what I have collected has turned out to be garbage.
From what I understand, the CH takes on the level of his pet. So once I get a nice CL70 pet, I can move up in CL a bit.
So far, crafting has taken almost all of my time..and I hate crafting. I did go out collecting milk on Naboo...25k of it. I tried to kill a green con mob, but my poor pets aren't grown - and have a 0 to-hit is this just a bad listing or can they not hit? - yet and I can't do any damage with a pistol I'm not certed for.
As for hating the CU...well, I hate the level isnted of the skill based system, but I just look at it as a new game and am enjoying it. I hate the broken pet crafting and the changes to the crafting system. As for not being the uber leet dude..well, never was before and if I want to do combat stuff, I have a Jedi for that.

I don't think the solution can be combat-level related unfortunately. It really isn't practical when you think about it. Suppose you were a master BE/master chef/merchant like a lot of people are, and that got you level 80. What would happen if you dropped chef and merchant and got master rifleman instead? Would you still be level 80? Or would you actually lose combat level by picking up combat skills? hehe.
Yeah, you'd lose combat level.
Also it would create a wierd situation where other combatants would want to group with you to increase their skills. You wouldn't have to fight, or do anything, yet the mid-level combatants that you grouped with would take only a fraction of the damage that they would without your help.
Don't really see how that's a problem. You're still in the group. You're still running around to the missions harvesting and such.
I'm not saying this is the end all solution to the problem, but it'd be the "quick fix" SOE loves so much.
I found that taking my lvl 34 toon and grouping with my alt (lvl 80) I was able to run around killing stuff quite happily with my needles. When they did agro me I took little damage, as I was sampling lvl 40-60 stuff.
Seems this was not working as intended, but it worked for me.
Personally I think we need a BR Kit, which equips like a weapon. You need to have it equipped for sampling and it provides a innate armor level, or boosts existing armor to the level where you can take at least 10-15 hits. This would have to be according to your DNA sampling level to prevent exploitation, and probably deny you joining a group.
BE Needles kit 1 - CL15 - Novice BE (or level 17)
BE Needles kit 2 - CL30 - BE xx1x
BE Needles kit 3 - CL45 - BE xx2x
BE Needles kit 4 - CL60 - BE xx3x
BE Needles kit 5 - CL75 - BE xx4x
BE Master Needles - CL 80 - Master BE only.
This would kinda add to the immersion, we can get another item to craft, maybe the kits can be crafted by other proffessions, or have components from other proffessions.
I'm new to the BE thing, but with my alt (Master Merchant, Master Architect, CL is a mighty 7!),I found that, at least when checking my harvesters, I could use a lower level pet (mine is a razor cat, but I'm not a CH either), for basic controls, including defending my weak a$$.
I take it some critters can be controlled and used for defense in this manner? It does help when defending at harvesters, but not much in pure combat of course...

Basic fundamentals of animal crafting starts with a 5 DNA samples. The 5 samples are used to create a template. This is where all the experimentation is done. The template will determine what the finished product's stats look like. The individual stats of each sample will effect the outcome of the template depending on where the samples are placed. Experimentation on the template will effect the amount of damage, the health, the action, and the mind. The specials will be determined from the samples. Specials can not be experimenting into a template. That's the basics.
Why is this system broken now? The fortitude of an animal will determine whether it has armor or not. Yes, armor on animals has been removed but it would appear someone forgot to tell this to the BE developer. When you sample the mass majority of mid to high level animals you will see a fortitude of 1000. A fortitude of 500 creates AR1. A fortitude of 1000 creates AR2. Therefore, if you use samples with a high fortitude, even if the samples are taken from something with a CL of 22, the end product will have AR1 or 2 and a CL of 100+. I've made animals from CL22 samples that turned out to be CL167. Completely unusable animal. We can't even resample the deed because the CL is too high.
This, compounded by the fact that most specials don't show up on the DNA samples, makes animal crafting very hard and very frustrating. The CURB was supposed to bring the fun back to the game. Someone needs to tell this to the BE developer because they missed the boat on this one.

It's broken because any pets made using DNA from mid-level and above creatures creates a clone that is too high a level to be tamed (100+ Level pets).
I went to Dath, Endor, and Yavin today to try DNA sampling
EVERYTHING has fortitude of 1k
And the CL of the mobs doesn't make a difference they all turned out fort 1k.
No more sampling of MR's...they're over the CL 75 limit.
Mask scent works great vs rancors, but seems to break on lower level mobs. I stood next to 3 MR's and it never broke (scout 4040), but had a very hard time trying to move around Yavin and Endor.
I did find a baby Delirious Merek Avenger CL 57, Boar Wolf Cub CL 64 and a Giant Grackle Bat CL 63
I wish we had a flying skin we could craft.
We've been asking for one, but no response from the Devs.
