Thread: WE HATE THE NEW CHANGES!! TAKEN FROM THE CH FORUMS
As a creature handler myself I understand what the orignal poster is trying to say.
A level 1 animal killing a higher level animal is going to amass huge creature handler points. Anyone owning a tank with huge resists that is only a level one is going to be in hog heaven when it comes to advancing up the creature handler trees...even if its just a baby and only useful for 3 days.
I'm both a CH and a BE, so understand that my position is likely biased. One of the key parts of the game design in SWG is interdependence. Yes, you can solo, but the devs want you to be more powerful/successful/uber if you are working in tandem with someone else or in a group. To me, the changes to the creatures, CH, and BE make this a reality for the first time in the game when it comes to creature handlers. Creature handlers were one of the few professions that could solo with the same effectiveness as an interdependent group of four. Aside from our own skills, we had very little need/use of other professions. The best analogy I can come up with is a marksman who could craft their own high-level weapons (without the investment of weaponsmith skills/time). It was fun, it was powerful, but it didn't align well with the rest of the game. Now, much like the rifleman or bounty hunter that seeks out a master weaponsmith, creature handlers who want the "best" pets will seek out the crafting profession that creates those--bioengineers. Yes, for the most part, creatures in the wild have been nerfed in a big big way compared to what BEs can create. Natural creatures are CDEF, BE creatures are republic blasters.
As far as the complaint about a baby creature having a 60 resist, I think that it's logical (although a very difficult programming task) to make resists scale proportionally to creature age (CL). My tank kwi will eventually have over 7000 HAM (mmm...knockdown and dizzy), but it starts at around 900. In the same way, the devs could have a creature with a max resist of 60 start out at 10 and go up as the creature ages.
The person wouldn't have been able to tame or transfer it if that were the case, as far as I can tell. Do BE pets not take into consideration max level when taming?
Anyways, if it ends up CL 50, its counted as CL 25 when fighting, so they'll get 1 CH on everything that it can tank.
What this means is... Get your supplies and templates made, get your good BE pets, because this is just the beginning of the whining.
The nerfs will come, ohh yes they will. Horde up good pets and templates while you can.

I think that sentence captures it completely, right there
I've been MCH for months and never seen the need to buy pets (quite aside from the fact that the thrill of the tame is why I'm CH in the first place), I'm excited now to find the perfect pets from a BE. Just because they are player made doesn't take away from the attraction of a great pet in a manageable size
Any of you BEs on Starsider with a fantastic armoured creation, I'd be interested to hear from you
TO all BE's... /applaud... sincere congrats on all you have finally gained for a change ![]()
/pats his new BE Kaadu which is slowly growing for him.
I'm a Master CH, been one before the changes that removed the Giant Peko Peko. I love the CH changes, I love the BE changes. /hurrah
Some of us are actually looking forward to doing business with BEs.. I want lots of stuff.. ![]()
I just can't find a BE to do business with
.. but could just be the "new patch" rush.. /sniff
Zyzzyx forwarded,
"If they could have even made all of their clones *as good* as the wild versions they would have still had a market the same as people buy wild pets tamed by other players."
This is a falacious argument. Given the option to pay lots of credits for a BE creature or tame one in the wild that is exactly the same a CH is going to save his cash and go out and tame the beast.
The whole point of the BE profession is to enhance creatures/clothing/food through genetics. If they weren't better there would be no point to the class.
"A BE should be making fantastic niche pets. They should *not* be flat-out making the best pets anywhere."
Part of the same falacy. What this CH is overlooking is that there are some wild pets that we can't make that they can tame. He, and those that share his opinion, should check them out before jumping to conclusions.
The bottom line is that 1) BE's are here to stay and 2) CH's have the option to field a wild animal for an even-up fight or to take a bio-engineered animal for superior firepower. The smart CH is going to go with the best critter available though regardless of the source.
My advice to this guy? "Get over it."
