Thread: CORRESPONDANT: Something Needs To Be Done Regarding Critical Failures.

I was fuming mad after last night. It's been consistantly worse of a critical fail ratio lately, but last night took the cake. It was a long evening of about 4 hours on Dantooine of marathon sampling and template crafting. During the template crafting process, I lost 1 in 5 to critical fail combines. Was that bad? Not compared to what followed... I flew off of Dantooine with 16 DNA templates on me to craft into pets at my shop... 1 out of 3 was a destroyed failure, I **edit** you not. 6 out of the 16 templates were critical fails. I had to turn off the computer and leave the room before something expensive broke.

Bottom line is that a game should not grief it's players. To have a Master crafter fail this much is an insult. Time is literally money - we pay $15 a month to play this game - and when this game takes my time-earned work and play and throws it down the drain, it tells me that my money to SOE is not worth enjoyment in return.

agreed . Its not fun to have hours worth of work ruined at the click of a button .

My Bio-Engineer is only on his second Kimo, which is for me because of the critical failures lol. He's had two critical failures in a row. They really need to fix this, cause it makes these high cl pets really really expensive.

Two crit fails in about 15 combines in manufactoring/research center city, 14+ tools, 43+ station.

What up with that?

I have a really dumb question, catching up on months of being away from the forums. I've been a BE for many months and in the past I never lost BE components to crit fails -- it failed but didn't eat the components. Nowit does eat the components obviously. Was the old behavior just me, or did they change this when they overhauled BE? I'm just surprised not to see any other posts in this thread mentioning that it used to work this way.

Anyway, seems like some middle ground, like just losing one or two of the samples, would be reasonable.

Heh I had one of those nights last night that seems to defy a 1 in 20 experience. While I've posted that i think 1 in 20 is fine, when you have a night like last night, its a slap in face... I"d be in favor of trying to put together a cogent post to explain our concerns beyond it sucks. My understanding of the Architect changes was the huge amount of resources involved in combine. We're talking 1,000's of resources on one click.

But what is 1,000's of resources? It is either 1) Credits spent, or 2) Time spent.

Obviously we can't buy our DNA with credits in the same manner that resources are bought, so I'm not going to attack it from this direction.

We do however spend time getting DNA. Now an Architect can be expected to spend a reasonable amount of time to gather the necessary resources (either hand sampling or running harvesters) and running factories (quite a few identical parts needed). The highest end structures have these requirements moreso than the lower end structures. What i want to do is equate High CL clones to High end Structures. We spend literally hours getting samples for use in the top end clones. Anyone who has been Mutant Rancor DNA sampling knows the length of time we're talkling about (I got 19 samples over two nights of play ... 3 to 4 hours each night). I'd say our high end DNA rivals the frustration an Architect experiences with a crit failed on probably anything short of a PA Hall (would have to do the math on time to extract / run factorires).

If we can put together a cogent, constructive 'letter' to Kel, perhaps we can persuade him to at a minimum to remove the DNA Template loss on a crit fail.... we already suffer double jeopardy on these precious resources having to weather Template crit fails and Clone crit fails... not to mention each experimentation point runs the risk of totally destroying the worth of a template.

Maybe I'll find the time to write this out... maybe Kell will agree with us... so nights like this don't happen:

First 5 templates... success, crit fail, crit fail, success, success (I'm only irritated at losing 40% of resources)

Second 5 templates... success, success, crit fail, crit fail, success (Now I'm livid, still wasted 40%+ of my online 'fun' time from gathering resources)

I think the parallels are there for DNA vs Architect resources.

...I have posted this in another rant on crit fails but this thread seems more appropriate..

in a nut-shell.. I am having far more than 1:20 crits... and what has me punching the walls is losing the samples of my 3rd and 4th generation pets... think of the time/effort put into that...makes me puke.

I've tried new tools/stations...crafting during off peak hours...standing in different positons in front of station..and twice in last 3 crafting sessions..I have had 3 crit fails on 5 attempts... of course it was Mutant/Bull/Frenzied Graul/ BMB Queens.... I can live with the occasional Crit Fail...that is fine. But as Master, with great equipment---this is ridiculous. AND..what burns me up almost as much is that it seems like I NEVER get an amazing success anymore.

While it is refreshing to hear that I am not the only one experiencing this.....frustration levels are growing....and temptation to quit SWG and wait for Star Wars Battlefronts..(picture BF 1942, only all Star Wars)--is looking like an attractive alternative.

maybe we could earn frequent flyer miles to endor/dathomir until the Devs invesitgate this...??

I totally agree. It used to be that a critical failure on DNA Templates just dumped the samples back in your inventory. That was much better. Now I'm losing DNA samples left and right due to critical failures. It's so frustrating because it takes so much time to gather the DNA. It's bad enough that we can critical fail on the final build but now we lose the DNA build too.

I originally had a lot of problem with crit fails.I was using a public crafting station in town.

Tatooine on Tarquinas, being the ghetto it is, I couldn't find a good crafting station. I went to Naboo and found a 43+ crafting station. I paid a small fortune (or some might say a large fortune) and I haven't had a crit fail since. While there I also bought a couple of 14+ crafting tools.

Maybe it's just dumb luck. But I'm happy with the results.
