There are some rude BE's out there, just like there are rude members of any profession. But most BE's are not rude, we are misunderstood. I think about 90% of people who have not had the lovely privilage of playing a BE simply do not understand the limits and time consuming effort it takes to do the profession properly. Master BE's, like masters in other crafting professions, are generally busy when on-line for obvious reasons. Some random tells with long pauses take times away from whatever the BE's doing, annoying but a risk of the crafting world.
When people do not understand that we can't simply adjust this, experiment that to get the exact level with the exact stats and resistances they want, *boom* we are labeled as rude, stuck up, ect. When, by the current restrictions, it is IMPOSSIBLE to make this pet or this pet with these stats and we try to explain the simple fact, people take it as a negative response and *boom* we are rude.
We have so much limitations and restrictions with pets and alot of it is trial and error even after months of constant work, its no wonder why non-BE's dont understand...we dont get some of it ourselves..hehehe. Most of our customers are used to dealing with crafters that have an understood and explainable crafting system that they can explain and understand. Start talking about dna, dexterity 497, skins, and specials you get that deer in the headlights look and a 'well, you're the BE, you should be able to do what I want. the Armorsmith can make my armor with resistances I want. Why cant you?'
Anyways, yep we have rude BE's. Just like the rude rifleman or rude weaponsmith down the block. But in the end, its being misunderstood or being unable to do what the customer wants that makes us 'rude' in their eyes. Enjoy and take as you will....

it is nice to have BE as a side class and only for the fun of it. Also master tk so that is where most of my credits come from. But one way I deal with rude people is tell them this.
"oh you want what tissue component, then I need you to go get this resource and this and this. Also make sure that this and this and this is of atleast this quality or higher or I won't be able to get the results you are looking for."
at this point most just leave to probably find a different BE to work with. Have had some come back and tell me that what I am looking for is way to expensive, and then I said you see my point why I don't carry it.
As for pets, I send them to the sites and tell them if they can make it there and can tell me what I need to harvest to make what they are looking for, then I can do it.
I am sorry for all the BE out there that are using this as the main source of income, Good for you at trying this. Most will straight combat types will never understand the pain of crafting, and you also must understand that you will deal with children who just don't understand.

Wheather you get a name from a friend or see one running around, the best way is probably to e-mail them. Inquire first about if they even do pets, and, depending on what you are using it for, if their specialty is in non-ch pets or not. Most importantly, even though there's a greater chance of getting a remotely hostile response, include specifics as to what you absolutely NEED, what you WANT but DON'T NEED, and for those things that you want, what order of preferance you want them in, if any (not counting color, as it only pertains to what skin the BE uses). Lastly, word things as nice as you can- don't make demands of "i need" or "can you make me XX" and even try to avoid pleading with the BE, as any of these things generally give the BE the idea that you may be difficult to deal with. One thing that i tell most people that you're already doing right is getting as much information as you can before making requests or :wince: "demands". Luckily the Huf dun is a skin that has a minimum CL of 10, so it can be a non-ch pet, but it's always a good idea to check the BE FAQ/FAFAQ.

Your question is not ignorant but it perhaps isn't quite the right question to ask. How do you order anything politely? Simple, and you don't need me to tell you: say "please" and "thank you" and write in proper sentences.
A more appropriate question is: what information do I need to provide to the bio-engineer in order to quickly and efficiently communicate what I want to buy? This is the important thing because your BE will be able to make you pretty much anything you want; what you need to do is a) decide and b) specify it clearly. In my experience a lot of customers fail to appreciate this. They say "make me an uber level 40 pet" or "make me the strongest pet you can" or they want the pet with the "best" stats. It's the customer's definitions of those words which matter and so the customer needs to state clearly what is important to him and what isn't.
Mails I liked to get:
"Hi I would like a razor cat at level 23 or below with about 10k HAM, AR1 and 60% kinetic resist. None of the other resists matter and I don't care if it has specials or not."
"How much would it cost to get a rancor with resists to everything, crippling and dizzy attacks (but not ranged) and at least 500 damage. I'm MCH so the level doesn't matter."
"Please can you make me a non-CH bantha? It's only for riding around. Doesn't have to be able to fight anything."
Mails that weren't overly helpful:
"Can you make me a kaadu?"
"i heard u make uber pets lol
ill pay u good 4 a lvl 10 sluge panther"
"What's the best pet you can make for a Master Creature Handler? How soon can you make one?"
So, if resists are what matter to you, say so. If the HAM isn't a big deal, say so. If you want a pet with knockdown, say so. The more information you provide, the better able your BE will be to help you. This is especially true for things like disease specials and similar stats on each HAM bar. If you don't say you want these things the BE might well assume you don't and this can cause confusion.

For me, the more annoying part tends to be making pets. "Is it ready yet?" Tailors give me special orders, that's fine, I make them and sell to them ... chefs get a waypoint to my vendor, and if they need anything not up, they can ask. Fairly simple, really. The trouble comes when somebody asks for, say, a level 35-40 pet and I ask about resists. They tend to miss the point...

I've found that two things keep people fromgetting upsetwhen I turn down an order for tissues (as I try to only make pets)
1) I have the names of three other BEs that do make tissues handy to give to them.
2) I tell them if they still are having problems, to come back to me and I'll do what I can.
I've talked to the three BE's about my recommending them, and I know theres about a .5% chance that all three will be too busy. I've never had a problem with someone calling me rude, in fact I usually get the opposite.
The one problem I do have is taking a while to make pets. We all know precise CH pets can take days to make as ordered, and I easily have 7-10 CH pet orders at one time. However, when a CH orders from me, I usually tell them what is required for me to make that pet, or my best guess, as well as if I have any other orders. Usually once the CH knows that you need Mutant Rancor DNA or some other creature that they probably wouldnt get near without buffs or armor, they are willing to wait a few days, even weeks. I also frequently send anyone who orders from me an update on their order as well as a new ETA, if needed. I've had orders that took me a week longer than my original ETA, but the CH still bought it and even ordered more pets from me because he understood at that point everything that went into making those pets for him.
As other people have posted, when someone calls you rude, its pretty much because you cant help them or cant do what they want, when they want it. If you give them some time and explain things to them, whether they take the information in or just simply put up with you, they cant say you werent being helpful.
