So a base of a 10% chance of success no matter the CL and a 10% chance of failure no matter the CL. Then a variable %based on the BE skill and CL. Sounds in line with type of equations used in this game.

I think the real issue here isn't the success or failure rates, those seem fine, but the amount of different types of animals we have to choose from in that range. We have mutant rancor and mutant rancor. There should be more animals in that range.

Great stuff, though I know for a fact that red mobs can have an alert (!) above them. I'll have to get a screenie next time I go poking things with me needles... Don't take it as a dig on your guide, but I know that they can be alert.

I think you are right - it was late/early when I wrote that.

What happens is that they go on alert "\!/" and then usually go into attack mode on the nearset available target (usually me) -so they don't tend to stay there very long!

Blame it on those sluggish neurons.

More testing tonight - one theory I want to test is that the mob aggros due to a change to a higher alert state and not directly to being sampled, so will go for the nearest valid target. The way to test this is to put a sacrificial pet nearer to the mob whilst I sample from a distance- in theory the pet should get the aggro and not me............

This is an awesome post on Sampling. Way to go.

Now for me I will just equip my mandovial and when that MR goes on attack i will use my EL KABONG attack.

....and then no matter how hard we get nerfed, we still keep CH because we are still some of the coolest characters on the game.

Well i just tried 30 to 40 times to sample them and ALL failed. This is FAR worse that it used to be.I have got 5 samples before now in a LOT less attemps.

I took advantage of the TC-Ahazi free for all, made myself MBE/Master Ranger.

I rode my bike into a crowd of Mutants with a camo kit (usually they detect bikes 60m away), jumped off and started sampling. I did fail a lot, but I only got agroed twice, my bike was handy, so off I went and came back, and I sampled them all to death. 20 samples in less than half an hour. *praises camo kit* A lot better than the ZERO MR samples I've obtained from theMS/BE Clothes/Jawa Beer combo on my normal toon.

I made some pretty good CL69 pets and threw them on the bazaar

Not exactly what the post is about, but I wanted to share my amazement.

Oh, and I walked 4m away from a nightsister and was fine too. *yay*

Hey Gally, I think I'm wrong, actually... I took a screenshot and the aggros can get ? and !, but they do not get \!/. I do not know if there is actually a difference between ! and \!/ but you're right, at least Mutant Rancor do not do the whole \!/ thing.

Back on the subject of sampling... I am still having a rough time getting into range. I also know for sure that the first mask scent break check happens at 65 meters, not 64... not like a meter actually matters. It took me over 45 minutes to crawl up behind some Muties tonight and begin sampling. 2 and a half hours at one spawn netted me 2 samples 30 failures and 7 failures with attacks as well as a myriad of broken mask scents. My 5% with Nancy's 10% and I think someone got a 15% success still averages us out to a 10%. I don't really mind the failures in sampling because I know that in time it will all equal out, but has anyone else noticed mask scent breaking a lot easier than it used to?

I used to be able to run up behind normal Rancor and now I have to walk or Mask Scent always breaks. Also noticed that bark mite burrower queens can smell me comming a lot more than they used to. And speaking of this... as a little food for thought for those of you who wish to argue that MR are too hard to get a sample from... it does seem strange that I can get a 75% success rate on BMB Queens (level 60) and get only 10% success on Mutant Rancor (level 75). How many creatures are there that can be found (no gronda juggernauts) are there that are between level 60 and 75? Not many, I'd bet, but it would be nice to see if there is actually a decline in success from 60-65 that can be shown or if it stays constant and when you get to level 75, everything falls off the edge of the world...

Yes, we have a high fail rate on Mutant Rancors. But if we keep looking, we can find one with super HAM bars, personally I love those with 14k+ health/action. An Armoursmith may have to wait months for that super spawn, and we can technically go look every day if we want to. Sure, we won't get many samples of those beasts, but they are always available somewhere.

Perhaps if we keep posting our sample attempts and outcome, then we may get enough to make a rough statistics. I'll start noting how it turns out for me on my next trips.

Heh, this was on TC-Ahazi so as a Master Ranger with conceal I just ran up to them

I used to just run up to them with Explo4/+25mask clothes/jawabeer and found it better than conceal (Yes, did ranger once just to see)

The 'trick' I found was to find a group of 3 MR. Larger groups broke maskscent too often and it got boring

personally if i found a large group of MRs, I would just kill half of them with me rifle and sample the rest. couldn't be bothered spending an hour just to get close enough and then agroed after the first dna sample failure.
