Thread: So DEs might have a droid mini-profession at master.. then we want a mini-CH one

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the overall feel of people's posts over the last couple days brainstorming the concept of a mini droid use skill tree did not center on people saying it should come off Master DE... it was more of a proposed idea for everyone to have these skills available, not just DEs. BEs do not have mastery over animal training, and similarly DEs would not roll into combat with three level 23 droids. This is all an ideathat's being developedanyhoo.

More droids = good. This is Star Wars. Quitcherbitchin' and throw in your constructive notions while DE is in the development process instead of complaining about some basic idea that hasn't been even fully conceptualized yet!

My friend is a Droid Engineer, and we have discussions about our professions all the time. To be an effective Bio Engineer, you need Novice Scout, Novice Medic, O-chem 4, Hunting 4, Exploration 4, Master BE. An effective DE needs Master Artisan, Master DE. The skill-point values are very close, but I think Bio Engineer requires a bit more.

The trick to DE, however, is to simply factory all your Master Artisan components, then drop Master Artisan all together. Save a good schematic, some resources, and Master Artisan isn't even needed.

From Thunderhearts post, it appears that the devs are rolling forward with a full fledged Droid Master tree (gee, thanks devs - that is SOOO different from the full fledged Droid Handler profession that DE's didn't want).

The mini-tree is a good idea if it is available to everyone. Remember, that is what we wanted - droids for all. Droids that could help, but would not be the uber pets that you BE's can make.

However, it seems that a good chunk of the community is actually somewhat behind some sort of cert system - something on the level of +5 DL (Droid Level) for each profession mastered. This would encourage specialization - something the devs like, would limit the max droid to CL 25, and would keep the BE/CH classes and the DE class unique.

Most DE's don't want to be BE clones. Your class should be unique, as should CH and DE. DM is, IMO a horrible idea. It will reduce BE's and DE's markets both, and would make us competing classes. Personally, I don't want to see this happen.

Looks like the devs totally ruled out the possibility of it being an extention of the DE profession, so thank god for that. Looks like it's going to be available to everyone by various degrees, if those droids are nice I might just give up my limitedrifleman skills.

The problem is, if I understand it correctly, the mobs have gotten smarter. My CH friends get attacked dirctly a lot these days, even when they have their pets tanking for them.

I personally have a similar problem. As one poster noted above, both DE and BE have auxillary skills that are almost requisite. For BE's, it is mask scent, and the ability to defend yourself when the thing that you are sampling gets irate because you are sticking needles in it. For DE, the auxillary skill is master artisan.

This means that while the BE skills augment hunting with a pet, the DE ones do not.

I'll admit that this is part of my personal motivation for a cert system. However, don't get me wrong - I firmly beleive that DE's and droids should have their nitch, and BE's and CH's should have theirs. For DE's and droids, we should make a far wider range of droids that can help all classes (how about a droid module that enhanced mask scent, for example ), and limited CL droids that are available to all classes. BE's should be able to make their enhancements and should be able to breed the super-pets for the CH's.

Having unique nitches in the game is important. If we are just clones of each other with different graphics, the game suffers.

I mainly hunt animals for the occasional good resources and they don't react all that differently to how they used to, as long as you don't stand between them and your pet they ignore you like always.

Agreed. In fact they already have a bonus since their profession takes less to master

I have not noticed any difference in behavior either. Sick pet on creature, they start fighting, then pick off the creature with whatever fighting skills you have without taking any damage.

One thing though about using droids in combat. With a pet, you tank with the pet, the pet gets hurt, you heal the pet and move onto the next mission. Can't do that with droids. Once your droid gets hurt you're done using that droid until much later in the evening when it miraculously heals itself. You're on your own until it does though.

Further, mobs have actually always behaved this way when the CH was grouped with his pet. Some CH's never grouped with their pets to aviod this. The only real difference is that mobs now behave as if the ch has his pet grouped whether it really is or not.

Frankly, I rarely get attacked and as long as you play smart, there is no real reason why this should happen very often.

My favourite solution is tocombine CH and DH and to allow cooperation between BE and DE:

  • Allow CH to control both pets and droids -- there's no point in having competing CH and DH professions.

  • Allow cooperation between DE and BE to build cyborgs. BE's can create pets with robotic enhancements (provided by DE's), and DE's can create droids with bio tissues (provided by BE's.)

I want to build a crimson gurrcat with eye-mounted lazers and vibro-knuckle paws!

That is interesting. I use Nerfbat (my probot) to guard me when doing my hopper runs.

It used to be that I could use him as a sacrifice to get away - now, it seems that a higher percentage of the mobs target me and just ignore poor Nerfbat until I am incapped.

Then, I mostly only fight when doing hopper stuff, and try to run when possible... (unless, of course, it is swoopers - I have something personal with them... )

Puck,

Seems to me that you're whining more than anyone else here. We're having a discussion, you're having a rant. DE's are the only profession ignored? oh boy. Now why would you say something as stupid as that? Tailor and chef both come to mind. To this date, neither has had a single new schematic since release. Others like carbineer, image designer, and many others have gotten ignored as well, so please spare us the self pity ok?
