I think TH's answer means we can give up on the CL thing. If it really israndom, the information just won't bethere till the final combine is over, and by then the CL is displayed...

I disagree. As of right now the CL calculation is done during the combine with the DNA Template/creature skin. The code is there, so there is no reason that I can thikn of why that code can't be moved to display the current CL during experimentation.

One other thing that would have to be changed is, during the skin combine, is a check of the CL vs. the minimum CL of the skin, and raise the CL if required.

If indeed TH meant to say 'no you aren't getting more documentation' I'd say it's no longer a case of being polite, appreciative and submissive. So how about this... GIVE US THE DETAILS WE WANT BEFORE WE TEAR YOUR NIPPLES OFF!

His point was the Bio-E wasn't suppose to be an exact science. My guess is he doesn't know and couldn't get a specific answer. Perhaps asking more specific questions rather then the general question "Can we get some documentation" I think the questions that need to basked are: "can we get some documentation of the range valid non-ch pets could be", "can we get some hard numbers on what primary effects CL?" Break it down.

Tal-N,

I think this really is a case of "be careful what you wish for". Let's suppose TH finally "gives in" and just goes to the function that is responsible for calculating CL and just cuts and pastes it into a post for all to see in this forum. How would this change our play experience as BE's? I think this is a valid question.

The first thing to consider is the formula is bogus. We know that it is responsible for determining that a 1K HAM 100 damage creature is CL 11 and a 10k HAM 150 damage creature is CL 10, and a 1k HAM 50 damage creature is somehow illegally overpowered at CL 6. It seems to me that the only thing such a post would accomplish is to encourage more BE's to take advantage of it's faults in a very calculated way.

The second thing to consider is how it would increase your enjoyment level. Admit it Tal-N, I'd imagine you enjoyed those first few weeks where you were busy playing mad scientist with a brand new system that was completely foreign to you. Writing up some of the great posts that you did, figuring out a lot about the "black box" that we call the clone system. How would knowing all the nitty gritties of how everything is calculated affect your gameplay and enjoyment? How would it have affected your enjoyment of being a BE had this already been written up when you came on board? You certainly don't strike me as the type that would want everything spelled out to you like you were a 10 year old kid. Maybe I'm wrong in that assessment. I realize that there are two schools of though on this. There are those that want some really basic understanding of how things work and after that want to take it the rest of the way themselves. And then there are those that come to this forum and say "give me the formula for the best CL 35 creature anyone has ever made so I can duplicate it".

It's starting to seem that TH is becoming more and more like another SoE goon. It used to be a case where you could ask a fairly open question and he'd take the time to answer it properly. The fans should not need to have a qualification in business negotiations or diplomacy to simply talk with a representative of the playing community who is the information pipeline between us and the devs and get our answers. But I'm seeing TH doing less and less on these forums every month, he used to post so frequently that it seemed like he lived on the forum. Now you bearly see him around as much as when he started now. he's even adopting the usual developer attitude of never answer a question directly if you can pander to the public with vague and sometimesunreleated replies.

i feel yah

i spent several hours todaytrying to get a certain creature template for someone........ needless to say i had many failed attempts and wasted a lot of time, money, brandy, lives, condition on clothes/tools/armour from cloning several times

i just feel it's not really worth it to make custom pets anymore......... if someone wants something, and i don't have it...... we shoudl tell them to go read the guide and tell us what THEY think we should do /rolleyes

I'm starting to think they used our FAQ cause they actually don't have a clue how their own system works, and the only person that mayknow (Keldarin) is too busy doing Jedi stuff.

That would also explain the problems they have fixing the "Invalid Pet" issue and why area effect specials are broken (It's arguable either way that they are either broken or it's "by design". With no official word on it, and their past record,I'll go with broken).

We have the right to know how high the CL is when we are experimenting and we need to keep at them until they provide it. No other class has to guess at their outcome like we do, nor do they have to fear that they make something too good to use. This is more SOE bull**edit** and it is unacceptable.

honestly i think they had good intentions way back in december (wasn't that when it happened?) when they changed the whole creature crafting system

the problem is the person who wrote itmessed up.... there were a LOT of bugs with the first cloning system, specifically the use of nocuous kamurith dna to make 10k ham 49% resist CL 10 clones..... ONLY using kamurith DNA

they did a hot-fix on that specific problem and then realised that didn't actually fix anything, so they implimented the "pet check" wich is totally borked...... i had a cl 7 with 2k ham get bumped down to 700ham, while my 4kham cl 10 went through scot-free....... my main frustration is these are done using the CURRENT cloning system! not even any resampling!! /sigh

my guess is the devs are floundering about, avoid all of our questions, until they can come up with a concrete crafting system. until then, they're going to say genetics is not really an exact science-umm yah, last time i checked it was

i'm tired of the devs just side-stepping questions they don't want to answer like they're politicians.....

Actually.. you'd probably have about 50 posts with suggestions on how to code it properly so that it couldn't be exploited.

Hehe, only 50? Actually though, that's what I think would happen. The furor that would ensue after publishing the bogus formula would dwarf any little complaints that we've seen up to this point and people would be ready to tar and feather the developer. And the profession would instantly become unplayable until it was fixed. Which brings me back to my original point: just fix the damn bugs and bypass all the rest!

I must repectfully disagree that he is becoming a goon. He is not able to tell us everything that is going on and they the devs may hold things back until they feel comfortable releasing the information. Just think about all of the information he has to go through for this job.

But I am really posting to say I enjoy the randomness of the profession as it was mentioned. However, if I too had to pick one area that needed more documentation it would be the CL levels and a way to see how our experimentation changes that from point A to point B, so we at least have some idea on how to produce a certain level. Even if it was bracketed a bit more. (Only my opinion)

Bleh. Basically, what TH is saying (by dodging the actual question and using an inaccurate pseudoscientific explaination as an excuse) is that this class has gotten all of the documentation that it is going to get. There is no plan for more information, there is no plan for a CL meter as we experiment on our templates, there is no plan for anything that will help us in our profession.

Fair enough. At least we know where we stand with the developers. It's not the response I was hoping for, but it is very final-sounding, which is all I need. This is as good as it gets.

That I will agree with you on Tal-N. TH is becoming more like a representative for SoE then a representative for the player base.
