This isn't new, but since it wasn't on your list:

Enhancing organic resources. Do DNA manipulation (just as is done today) and upgrade a resource. For instance, you would use a crafting tool and combine something (not sure what) with some kind of ingredient, say Domesticated Oats. You then experiment on it, trying to raise its qualities (you could spend all your points in one quality or spread them out). If you succeed, then you could create a manufacturing schematic with the Oats as the only ingredient. So you could put in a maximum of 1000 Domesticated Oats with a OQ of 500, say, and manufacture enhanced Domesticated Oats with an OQ of 650. The other ingredient could be a radioactive, fuel or whatever...

As far as brand new things are concerned, I have always thought that doing something with humanoid cloning would be good. There is obviously precedent for it both in the movies (storm troopers) and the game. But I'm not sure what this would be. If clones had weaker skills (i.e. Eve) then you could manipulate less degradation, but that isn't the case in SWG.

Might want to run it by Jest3r the CGW correspondent.. he's looking for ways to get crafters into the CGW... I dunno about rebels... but cloning ST's for the empire sounds like a very good match to me.

Hello,

a "Blank" DNA template at MBE lvl

6 DNA slots- 5 DNA of what we have alreadyand a 6th DNA to input what you want to make.

meaning if you can Sample it you can make it.

OK,lets review what we have at the moment here.

How about bio weapons made to fight creatures. Stun/tranquilizer guns, weapons that don't do a lot of damage but put status elements onto them.

Thats very much a weaponsmith kinda thing, given how bio-engineers have no knowledge of mechanics or electronics this wouldn't be fitting with what the profession is focussed towards.

Anything having to do with cloning people is a good addition, it just doesn't make any sense that we can't do this. In addition to the ones you listed, I still like some kind of cloning in the field (yes make it different from doctor's rez, much like CM's mind healing was added but made different from Ent mind healing).

Humanoid cloning would be very much against the continuity of the SW universe in the current time period, the Empire has strict laws against that form of cloning and even has strict control over the process. Frankly the cloning facilities are really pushing the fiction a bit but then again it's the only logical solution for respawning so it's more of a required game mechanic.

The ability to craft tissues that have the same affects as buffs (wear this shirt and have +200 constitution). You could use this to help the poor wookies out.

Saddly that would be unfair to the professions which make a living from buffs, it's better that new ideas open additional markets rather than cutting into existing ones. (you already know what its like to have CHs beating us at our own game, don't inflict that onto other professions)

The ability to ACTUALLY CLONE someone's pet.

To what purpose? This would stagnate the pet market since once someone purchased a clone/pet they really like then they'd jusr have it continually cloned leading to us eventually not needing to make the effort to produce new clones.

The ability to craft doctor-type enhancements that work on pets. Your Greater Sludge Panther would heal very very fast if it had 2000 constitution...

As i said pet buffs of that nature have been thoroughly discussed to death before. See.. thinking up a new and good idea isn't that easy

I mentioned this before, but components for spacecraft such as hydroponics gardens or neural net computers.

There is the possibility of bio-engineers having an elite-elite Botanist extention from what I can see so growing plants and making hydropnics might be handy but isn't that basically what a flora farm is anyway? And neural net computers is more Star trek than Star wars unfortunatly.

Midichlorean enhancers to buff a jedi's force bar?

There is strong evidence that the Jedi destroyed all records of the technology about midichlorians otherwise you'd find people in the EU and such using them to find Jedi. Also the Emperor would have wanted to keep the fact he and Vader are the Sith secret so if it did survive it'd be a top secret bit of information.

Pheromones to make a politician more appealing?

Charigra returns? Thats more of a tissue so it's not a new idea I'm afraid.

Pets that do something other than attack, or are ridable- such as trackers, messengers, pack animals, spies, performers, rescuers.

That's training not bio-engineering so it's a CH thing but still a good idea.

Enhancing organic resources.

Thats basically the same as sythesizing resources which is already on the list. Basically it's about taking current resources and making a different one which is better or designed for a fixed purpose. One example of this would be materials that can only be bio-engineered so that BEs are required to make materials that other professions require.

I've got it! Add Humanoids to our cloning line. Stormtroopers are clones, so we know this is very possible. And most Faction pets are Humanoid pets, so that precedent is there.

We've discussed the concept of Imperial bio-engineers being given factional blueprints to produce clones of this nature, on the one hand the Empire is supposed to guard this technology closely but on the other it would be a 'fun' thing to do plus the devs were talking more and more about making factional pets cheaper and more common. Perhaps Imperials BEs could be required to first gather the Spertari cylenders and equipment seen in the cloning centre from the Imperial recruiters and then they need to buy what is effectively a blueprint with a fixed number of uses for producing a single type of humanoidfactional pet. Naturally to counter this the Rebels would have DEs gaining factional combat droids. But as i said, it's been discussed before.

This has been discussed before many many times, I think it's where Keldarin got the idea for the generic templates that the new system uses, there is the issue here of cutting into the CHs market for rare creatures but I think it would be nice if we can produce 'trophey' clones which cannot be used in combat and are essentially collectables that can even be used as furniture. That would allow for a new market without stepping onto the toes of the CHs.

Some good ideas here folks, many discussed before but lets keep them coming.

While I'm sure the Empire would do everything they can to retain a monopoly on the practice, I think it is unrealistic to assume that they have succeeded. They can't even control starship and fighter production, which would be a lot harder to hide than a cloning lab.

I certainly agree that we need to not step into other profession's territory, especially professions that are also having a difficult time (which is why IDs should get pet colors). But now that decay is in the game you could make a shirt that gives +200 CON if it had a maximum durability of 15-20, say, and perhaps have our own niche. Still, best to leave it alone, I guess.

You can bet that only a very small number of people knew about the existence of Midichlorians. If that had been known then Jedi would have lost their mystical aura (like they did in the movies *sigh*).

And here's an oldie but a goodie: Make BE created pets more reliable (more likely to stay and fight, better at petpathing, etc.) than those in the wild.

I have an idea!

I just saw a bird cage in a store and I figured it was missing something... like a bird! Now I know there is birds cause I've been killed by rasp several times in my youth but how about making song rasps for the birdcage? That would be something to sell beside the ever popular cats! Even better if they combined a cat and a bird in the same house, the bird would eventually be gone after a week or two ;-)

So that's my suggestions; a Song rasp DNA template!

Tal-N dear, you're shooting your own thread in the foot. Can't brain storm effectively if you knock down every idea that comes in.

Actually the topic was wavering down the bottom of the page, there are two way to look at the situation when you review and critisize ideas. On the one hand there are the people who simply stop posting caue they didn't hit the mark the first time, on the other theres people who will now come back with a better or a revised idea. Basically if you say nothing then people will always sit on their laurels and not come up with another idea since no one pointed out anything right or wrong with the current one.

Here's an idea. Many would like a way to be involved with player cloning stations. How about a BE device that can be crafted into a cloning center or installed once it's placed. This device would increase the efficiency of the cloning station thus reducing the fee to clone at that station. Now, money sinks are important, so it probably couldn't be a large amount, say 100cr. Part of the savings woud be passed to the user and part would be kicked back to the city.

Edit: changed No, money sinks to Now, money sinks - a bit of a difference Oh, and spelling too

Don't think in terms of criticism, think in terms of augmentation. The only reason I came back to post again is because I'm semi-used to your ways.

The camp repellantthing gave me another idea, how about a creature lure? You take a sample of a specific creature and create a scentedlure that will attract it, provided that you're setting the lure in its natural environment. I know, we're getting into spawn coding here, but oh well. Sounds good.

Rangers are getting the ability to creature animal lures if you check the most recent designer response, it was supposed to be added along with the /areatrack skills and such but it was held back i think. It's going to be put into the survival skills line along with the new 'hunting screens' tents(whatever that means)
