Last I knew, Humbubba on Corellia dropped Domesticated Meat. I know there are one or two other sources around various places, but I don't know the specifics. I asked a Ranger friend a long time ago when I still had hope...before I got Master and took a long look at everything I could do in theory as versuswhat I could do in practice. The theory is great. It's the practical that lacks. Echinacea picks up her Traz and blows some mellow notes of Folk in the Doaba Guerfel Cantina on Chimaera. See all y'all Starsidersin a couple months, I hope. ¯

I started BE for the same reason. It just looked dam cool to make your own pets. and the enhancements to clothes were a hot item in my guild at the time I was looking for a crafting profession.

The grind is tuff but since you already chef I think you know what to expect. Just remember to save all your meats hehe.

I am currently just 0-0-0-1 (with 3-3-1-1 CH and 0-4-2-2 fencer) and working on my DNA sampling. It's kind of fun. Take two mountain squill missions and I guarantee it's going to take a while to finish them. Not only do I try and DNA sample everything til my mind runs out I get to work on combat skills if I fail hehe. And whenever you waiting for something just bust out your crafting tools and grind away on micronutrient supplements.

It's more fun levelling up BE than it is Chef. The only thing that sucks hardcore is that each DNA sampling try takes a huge ass chunk out of your mind and action. Since Im more a fencer than anything this hurts. Even with Zabrak's mind regen there's still a waiting period for my mind to regen after 3-4 attempts.

Being a BE is both great and annoying. You will see many people (including myself) rant almost endlessly about being a BE and the problems. However it is a very cool class. We can make life. We can help toher classes do things. We combo well toward our ends with many other classes. Ranger, doctor, ch, tailor, chef, merchant, artisan, any combat class will work as a useful second to BE. (Or in som cases vice-versa) So while many of us are CH/BE it is far from your only choice for a good combo. We are also dependent upon more classes than anyone else. We need survey skills, doctor sub-components, ch tamer/trainers, chefs, tailors, miners, hunters, merchants, smugglers, architectsand in some cases other BE's. While this depedence is a mixed blessing,it is a blessing. I get to do more RP than most people I see because I need to interact more people than most in the game.

You'll find that most of us Rant so much because the character concept is so cool. The class whn it works is great. Making your first gurreck or rancor is a great experience. The clone crafting process would I think be the best crafting process in the game. Its about the most involved difficult craft in the game. Start by obtaining 5 DNA sample in the 1800's for each of the right pair of stats, whith the right CL behind them. That can take several days, even with DNA concentration techniques. Make the template. Now survey for the right organic and get several heavy harvestors down when you find it. Find the right meat and then work out how to collect enough of it. Now take these 3 and combine to make the final creature. It has all the challenging elements of all the other crafting professions plus a few that are uniquely its own. The problem is that with all that promise, quite a bit is broken and the rewards don't quite live up to the cost. Frankly though thats mostly an implementation issue and many of us love the proffesion for the promised potential. The idea of how glorious it will be when we live up to the concept.

I am a master scout, just dropped master marksman (but still have all the skills), Climbing the ranger tree (wayfaring specificly almost done with the third row), novice creature handler, and i just finished my organic chem grind in medic. i only have 6000 more med crafting xp to go befor i pick up novice BE and i can't wait! i have always wanted to be Bioengineer since the beginning of the game but never did it because i did not want a weak combat character off the bat, i don't really care about jedi although it would be nice to get it, i just think that BE is the most fascinating prof in the game, bugs and all. i am glad i waited so long to do it because from what i have read it looks i won't have to deal with the bug issue for very long. anyway i am looking to master BE, because the thought of geneticly engineered rancors that can grow beyond thier normal size sounds really cool, and if i can max out some of the CH line, imagine what you could do with three of them tanking for you. HMMMMMM. any advice for an up and coming BE as far as what to look for in the bugs. ie, what are the bugs that will frustrate me the most when starting so i can side line some of the frustration.

and by the way my sig is a little old.

Ill put it this way.

BE, independent of the community, is a pretty neat class. The problem is, a CH can outdo us in almost every aspect and venue regarding creatures. They own mounts, they own nonCH creatures, and pretty much everything up to the Rancor/Gurreck. These are the only creatures I find myself trully satisfied in making, because I know I've topped anything the CH could muster. Besides this limited area, I think we're universally outdone by our counterparts. Mind you, they have no production costs-outside of a measily shuttle ticket, perhaps.

Then you get into the buggy nature of our tissues, the other half of our profession. Over half of them are useless. They're either used in food(I've met one Master Chef in my lifetime, and no one has ever been interested in tissues for a consumable-from me anyway) or use an utterly ludicrous component. This gives us 4 or 5 tissues that sell well.

You can make your bread and butter on Vit Packs(that's how I funded myself through Master), and once you can make good PetStimCs you're rich(just cranked out 1.7mil worth of stims using advanced comps with 10k Dath Insect Meat). But the problem of meat/hide/bone harvesting remains. Finding good suppliers can be a real pain in the you-know-where, and doing it yourself WILL have you watching CSPAN to become less bored(actually I love CSPAN, but I know most ppl don't).

Im not saying there's nothing good about BE, but I've met no MBE who is not jaded by their profession after a month. Like I stated originally: If we were playing a single player game we might not realize it, but when you get thrown into mix with other professions you realize there are a lot of easier options for making more money faster than BE. I think we MBE only survive from the rarity of ourselves, really.
