Thread: to bio-engineer or not to bio-engineer?
My suggestion.... try out the class and decide if you like it for yourself... this game is all about you .... many of us truely love the BE class as it has been described ... we all have a dream about the day when we can play a class that creates good viable creatures... this is not that day... yet we wait.. at master you will have a few creatures to make ... and tons of stim packs (yay veteranarian leet skills).
But when you sit down at the monitor it all boils down to wether or not you enjoy it .... you'll never know till ya try
"...recently realized how cool the BE skill really looked."
I love you! 4/5 of BE's these days are pretty much only there because a holocron told them, and the remaining lot is split between grinders who just want to be on top of the dog-pile and people who actually play the game. It's great to see new people who actually WANT to do a profession because it sounds *gasp* enjoyable.
BE looks extremely cool! It's a wierd crafting-hybrid class likenone other. ...but we have a good deal of long standing problems that make us one of the more broken classes in this game.Word on the street is thatthe patch that will mostly fix us is coming soon though, many fingers are crossed. By the time you pick up BE and really get into it, hopefully these fixes will just in time for you! If not... well, perhaps you'll have fun with BE in it's current state until then

Im proud to be in the smaller 1/5!
I recently got novice BE, and I really enjoy it. After being a novice weaponsmith, novice droid engineer, and almost master artistan, I have never really enjoyed crafting like I do now. I've had BE a few weeks, and Im at 2.1.1.1.
Its a great proffession!
BE is a very cool class, right now a lot of stuff isn't where we want it to be or where it should be, but the basic idea behind it is pretty cool. Making creatures is awesome, and the fact that you always feel that you can do a leeettle bit better on each clone makes it a constant process of striving for perfection.
Cloning isn't an exact science, so a lot of it is experimenting, and sharing of experience. It adds to the experience and for me makes it seem more like we're more the of mad scientist pushing the boundries of science than wage slave merchants mass producing products for the world.
I would suggest for the full experience that you (at the very least in the beginning)make creatures on the way up, using stimms and tissue sales to support you, rather than grinding straight through it. If you can do so now get as much meat and floral food as possible since that will always be needed. Find amaster BE if possible, their knowledge and assistance with materialswill be invaluable as a mentor. If you're on wanderhome send me a Message, I'll be happy to help out a fledgling BE who isn't here for the Holo. ![]()
ok...i first got into this profession becuase i was tired of paying for pet stims and wanted to make my own. ima master CH , novice pistoleer, and my artisan skills are slowly dropping thanks to this wonderful profession. (yes...you heard me right i used the 'w' word) , it just wasnt enough to get the skills needed to make pet stims after i started looking at the tree, and visualizeing the mad scientist i always have been and will be (if only the voices would sing a bar or two togethermebbe i could hum along) so here i am , not just striveing for pet stims, but for mastery. thank the gods i had the splendid ideah of makeing 8 of each type of personal extractor with 4 extraction rate before i got too far in. becuase i may never go back. especially with whats in the grape vine (giving our clones special attacks WE want them to have? OMG *wipes away a tear*) not to mention what we can play with until then. look up some of the studies people have done on sampling DNA , and the yeilds from them. this profession has intrigue! we need more clothing modifiers though , thats one thing id like to see as well, we can only do so much becuase they only allow us to do so little. but what we can do is grand.
oh yeah....why cant we harvest milk from docile cattle brained critters? i dunno about any of you , but milk isnt the ultimate l33t loot. or at least it shoudlnt have to be! milk does a body good damnit and were not gonna take it anymore! seriously, is there some game breaking issue to haveing access to MILK? i could go in the fridge and get some right now! and nothing had to die for it to reach my doorstep (except a pesky fly) sereously, if your gonna strive for realism, be realistic, not sadistic.
Also, you'll find that you're often searching for a specific creature to sample. Ranger Area Track helps with this a lot. You only need the first level box (direction) for it to be useful, but the 3rd level box (distance) is nice to have.
I'm still a Ranger, but I've reduced the skill levels in it for a transition I'm making from Carbineer (boooo!) to a melee class (prob TK).
I also am enjoying BE (currently 2,1,2,2) and people think I was insane dropping Master Weaponsmith to be BE - and a holocron DID NOT tell me to BE.
Yes, it is all about playing the game the way you want. It's too bad more people can't figure that out instead of grinding professions only to learn they need to grind another to be Jedi.
Ranger/BE is a very viable combo. I'm going to try to get Ranger Hunt Master to be able to get a lot of meat/bone/hide! With the other things I want to keep, including some minimal combat skills to be able to kill things to harvest from in the first place, I can't afford to go up the Wayfaring line, too, but I hear that's really useful.
This is not an easy profession right now. It's easy to get discouraged. Although if all you want it for is pet meds, you'll be fine. If you want anything more out of it, we're not really sure whenthat dream will be realized. Some of us are still hoping...and in my case at least, not holding my breath. ![]()
A ranger/BE is one of those good combo classes that not only helps the DNA sampling but also the meat, hide, bonesgathering. Some have also noted that smuggler/BE can be good since smugglers have feign death. Other popular combos that seem to work are CH/BE, Tailor/BE, Doctor/BE, TKA (or other brawler)/BE.There also might be a chef/BE. I dunno if there is anyone trying to role-play a cyberneticist as a DE/BE but maybe we will see that some day.
One comment about chef tissues (off topic I know) is that they might not be marketable, but a master chef friend of mine is willing to get the resources and I agreed to create schematics for him to be able to buff his foods up and be known as making the best food. With all the credits floating about, some people really will pay top dollar for the best. Too bad the mind enhancers require domestic meat...
