Thread: How Do BE's feel about a proposed Droid Handler?

I think any cert system for elite combat professions would be, no offence meant to anyone, a dumb idea. Last thing BH/TKA/Commando's need is more power...

And I don't see why they they can't just drop Creature from "Creature Handlers" and let them be"Handlers". Some might go "flesh", some might go "metal" and some might combo the two, though the Devs would need to make sure droids and critters are well balanced.

Theres enough professions in SWG already without spreading the skill points out any thinner (except for speciallty classes like "Pilot"for the SE) and I feel they are risking losing people if they add similar classes that compete for the same player style (I canimagine a lot of CHwould considera DH ideaas a "last straw", especially if combat droidsaren't balanced really carefully).

I think the idea is stupid. Droid engineers should be able to use more droids. It is not analogous to CH, because you don't go into the wild to tame droids. BE was an afterthought to the CH, and if we didn't exist, CH's would have never noticed. Do not make a specific droid tamer class. Droid engineers should have all teh skills to program their droids. Droids don't need training.

Of course, the balance is all screwed up. Droids should be tanks. Creatures should be weapons. Metal should resist damage better than flesh. 3000 lb cats should do thousands of points of damage.

It is safe to say that what ever is implemented, it will be implemented badly. So lets not pick on the droid users. Their nightmare is just beginning.

Woah, you have to be aMaster Artisan and Droid Engineer to be a Droid Handler....?

Those combat droids had better be the best pets in the game for that kind of dedication.

I mean **edit**. CH is what...half of scout, and this is an elite-elite profession?

I think if at best the droids should have a certification system to run just like weapons have. The only difference is you cannot use them without the certification. Also they should only be up to a certain level compared to vehicles. They should also follow the rules of ATST's which now only allow one at a time. I personally think they should be comparable to animals but the true strength for CH is the multiple pets called out. But truly the thing I hate most about droids if I had to use them is the fact that they don't just lose vitality. They get destroyed. This leads me to think they should not be easy to get. At least make it harder for them to create high level robots since it can be a task for BE or CH.

This is the only way I see them doing this with droids as I posted that on DE boards. Droids has allways been more star wars anyway. I hope they get of there arse and get it done which means that the DE loving that was comming in won't happen other then some fixes what they allready had posted for them. It will give people choices. Choice is good. As having a players that one is MBE and one MDE I can't wait for them to blend the two for and have what I would think could be. The mix of droid and critter. This part of why I still even play SWG is for what they can do if they ever get anything right.

I dont like the Idea...unless they are refering to Vehicle Operators and Mecha Pilots...ie. for giant robots and tank like vehicular things or say an AT-ST.

You see thats what sets Droids apart they can be used by anyone, and there where the creatures we make come in, they should heal back to the way they did before.

Droids should heal very slowly, but be easier to make.

Thats the big difference between creatures and droids.

Oh well thats just my thought on this.

As far as I am concerned as long as the developers Fix the Surgical Droids so they actually allow you to heal while they are out and to name them and to use them as a Crafting station I wont mind too much as long as I can at least keep calling out the one I have.

Heck I always felt Droids should be able to have mounted weapons and such, but then I also felt Creatures should be able to have the same things just not as powerful.

But the offset would have been a Creature Heals faster while a droid being cheaper and not healing as fast could have more pwoerful weapons.

Oh well like I said these are my thoughts....actually they are how the RPG table top game works and most of the Star Wars and Fantasy Games wrok out there being sold....so I guess I am sort of a purest when it comes to Role Playing Logic.

Thats all you need. TH never listens, he just shuts you out if you don't agree with the party line. Anything that is anti a proposed change is automatically labeled non constructive and either gets ignored or at worst you get our resident Forum Keeper telling you that your discussion does not promote "positive" constructive discussion. That in and of itself proves she and the entire CS staff doesnt listen to any anti posts. It continues to amaze me that the level of customer service on this game keeps dropping rather than improving and the arbitrary and random way posts are moderated boggles the mind.

I loathe the entire concept of 'droid handler'. The setting doesn't have droid handlers, really, beyond merchants.

Droids were the 'everyman' tool. Making it profession based is, to me, ludicrous.
Want a certification system? Great. Many have been proposed that would work for balance, including setting droid categories (like combat, support, medical, etc), and then giving IDENTICAL certification for multiple professions (combat droid type 1 cert going into ALL combat professions at a low skill box. type 2 cert, with stronger droids, further up the tree. Type 3 cert, even stronger droids, at the novice box of all elite combat professions, etc etc etc). Making the #callable scale by type and profession (so a master doctor might be able to call two medical droids, or even three, but a bounty hunter is only going to get one tops... whereas the bounty hunter might get multiple combat droids, and the doctor MIGHT get one if they're lucky (and not a high threat one).

To me, the cert system is already misapplied, with weapons only showing up in ONE box, period. Take vibro knucks. Novice TK. But why not novice smuggler (also has the prereq of unarmed 4, and is an elite profession), or novice commando (same prereqs)? Why can't a scout ever get a 'scout blaster' cert at any point, when they have mods for ranged combat only? Things like this, if you could get certs from multiple sources at equivalent levels, to encourage diversification (they'd still lack the specials unless they trained in a profession that used those specials, so there'd still be a reward to, say, taking marksman/pistol line if you already had an FWG cert, just for the pistol specials that would make your FWG cert more lethal.

My sentiments exactly, I think it would kill off the CH class to a huge extent. Afterall, why bea Commando with half the class tree filled out so you can be a Ch also, when you can master the class and get combat droids as a bonus for free (points wise)?

As far as using combat xp to "buy" a license, it maxes out at 300k to the best of my knowlege and I know from experience that you can easily do that in a day or two with abit of grinding. Once again, skill points free pets.

There's a novel idea. I actually like that...

The only thing that concerns me about using a droid certificate system over a DH profession is... if CH's with elite combat skills have access to Combat droids, mybusiness as a BE providing elite creature pets to CH's will be reduced dramatically. If everyone can have access to these droids, then why spend precious skill points to obtain CH skills for use with petswhen they can just get a droid instead.

At least with a DH profession, even though they will be in competition with CH's for recruits, and with some CH's defecting to the DH side (and vice versa), like air rushing into a vaccum, the void in the CH ranks will be filled from all otherprofessions of the game. Therefore BE business won't be effected quite as much because the shifts between professions will remain much like it is today.
