Thread: How Do BE's feel about a proposed Droid Handler?
TH's weekly roundtable discussion talked about adding a Droid Handler profession to the game, which you can think of as a CH with droids instead of creatures.
What do you BE's think about this?
What I see happening is that with DH's being an almost copy of CH, DE's will become mechanical BEs. How much will this cut into your market? How many people and CHs will go to this DH profession? What do you think about DE's becoming almost identical to you?
Do you like the idea of a Droid Handler profession?
As a Master DE, I see droids being fundamentally different than CH's because of our product. I dont want to become an almost carbon copy of a BE, and I'm sure you wouldn't like to think of being so similar to a DE and in competition with DEs for providing the best pets. Well over 90% of DEs hate this idea of a new profession, and since I see it affecting you so much I'd like to hear your thoughts on it.
here is TH's post
Could you drop a hint when we will see the post about the DROID INVASION, please?
Ill be doing it this week. I had to push it off until some of internal discussions were finished. The timetable was changed because the Droid Engineers were very clear in telling me they wanted Droid Engineering and Droid Handling as two seperate professions.
Their argument makes a lot of sense too. A good balance is akin to Bio-Engineers and Creature Handlers; BE's make em and CH's use them. Its really two different playstyles. One is crafting and one is combat/exploration. Adding a class of combat droids to the game has to be similar. Combat droids themselves have to stay level 10 or under for the general population otherwise everyone would rush out and get the better pets. That leaves a wide range of powerful combat droids that needs to be in the game, but to get those droids, players have to spend the time and energy to earn them.
So what we'll have is a Droid Engineer profession and a Droid Handling profession. All players will have access to combat droids up to level 10 and DH's will get a wide range of heavy combat droids to handle.

We DE's have been arguing against this for months, but TH just didnt seem to listen! What many DE's are advocating, NOT to take away from your non-CH pets, is a certification system so higher level players (say master elite professions) can get a better combat droid to use, whereas they are so strong a non-CH pet just isnt doing it for them and need something better. We want better combat droids, but we want everyone to be able to use droids like they can now, but since there cant be a pre-nerf probot situation come back there has to be a way to keep them out of the newbie hands, so some kind of a certification system.
How do i feel about a droid handler profession? I feel that the devs have run out of original ideas.
Would it be such a huge imbalance to allow combat professions to spend combat exp accumilated on droid licences. That means that people who have already maxed their exp can continue to enjoy hunting so they can purchase and operate more powerful droids. The limitation being that these droids cannot exceed CL30 meaning that CHs still have the best kinds of pets around. Think about that, combat exp is already one of the toughest things to accumilate and it's common to all combat professions. So lets say that once you have 100k of combat exp you can own a CL15 combat droid, 300k you can own a CL20 combat droid, 500k you have CL25 combat droids and at 1 million you can operate a very nice CL30 combat droid.
The purchasing of the droid licences would also cost alot of money so it could be a money sink. Or perhaps they need to pay a membership fee on a regular basis to keep the licence.
My sentiments exactly Tal-N. I was going to say what you did before I even got to your post.
Extremely unoriginal.. and there was no such thing in Star Wars.

Bingo! Could not have said it better myself. This idea and lack of originality causes me some concern about the future and direction of the game. It is clear if this is their real plan then they have not listened to their own DE community which is for the most part opposed this concept, dating back to the original discussions of the droid revamp.

Not bad ideas, Tal. You should also check out Drashk'sideas for a certification system on their board if you haven't already. Well though-out and fairly balanced as well. Although it does not serve the dual purpose of a money sink, it does allow some access to non-combat classes to these droids as well......
Personally, when I read about this idea, I just shook my head - not knowing whether to laugh or cry. I feel most for the DEs who have spoken against this idea from the onset and are still having it tossed back at them by the Devs.
So you folks wouldn't feel it was unfair if the DEs because a CH/BE combo with less points? Or would you rather have creatures still be the primary tanks of choicebecause droids are extremely weak? Not everyone has a doctor on their beck and call. ![]()
Are they going to make it exreamley difficult to know what kind of droid level they will be creating like what we have with the bio engineered pets? Or are they going to have a very simple, put this here and that there and this is what you get type of system like all the other crafting classes. I guess I'm just fed up with bio engineering and all the guessing and waste of resources and time making pets that aren't what I want them to be. I'm even so tired of the whole creature thing that I've given up MCH on both of my accounts as well. The droid handler may be fun for awhile I suppose though, but I won't be a MBE for long if unless they make it as difficult fot the droid engineers to know what they're making as they do for us.
"Can I get a two level 30 battle droids with AR1, high resistances and kick butt firepower and ham?"
"Um, sure can! I'll just need a minute to crank that out for ya here in my factory."
Yeah, why waste the time anymore with bio engineer lol. It was fun for awhile I guess. Looks like I'll just have to go full Doctor now myself.

3-4 hours per nonch pet is getting insane and lacking the fun factor. I bet a DE will beable to pop out a CL 10 in a min. I mean a good nonch pet like i sell, 3k ham energy and kenetic resist is a 3-5 generation job. secound off I am a master doc so im a pure crafter atm no combat skills, I went into BE to try and make alot of money this idea will kill that idea but once I make a cool mill or 2 (soon I hope) I'll go back to a fighting class
in closeing, droids? yes DH? ok but I think its a cheap fix for something thats broken. Make more sence to work with fixing the bugs over adding more

Thats because it was already all planned out before you ever got a chance to put your 2cents in about it. The discussion forum was just there to make you think you have a voice.

Then again, were thereeven bio-engineers? At this point I'd be happy changing from a bio-engineer that does anything related to animals or tissues to some sort of germ warfare specialist.
