can't beat em, join em....

was competing against chefs for a 930 avg spawn of meat... I started out with an offer for 50 cpu, then went to 55, then I said, screw it and started offering 5 credits more than the chefs on my server and ended up paying 75 cpu for meat... only thing it hurt was my bank account.

But I seem to be a rare type of crafter who isnt afraid to spend money... I don't mindgoing from 20+milliong to havingless than 10k to my name if it means that I'll make 40 million. You have 70 million and your can't keep up with the docs? with 70 million I could outprice docs and get what I want... on a related note I have a crafter friend who would not spend nearly any of her money till she had at least 100 mill as a 'buffer' *cough*

The money that docs pay for meat on Bria is amazing. I don't see how they can make it. I am also Master Doc and buy them. Cheaper and better qual. than I can make.

Yes they and others are!!!

I've 500 *87 BSN's and 500 *57 MNS's stuck away right now, not for sale yet.

There is a very good DATH carn meat for auction right now, minimum bid 100cpu, (really very good) and someone bid on it for that price. 23k of it. ....50 I would have gone, it was that good. 2800+ combined. (go bid lol)

The trouble is, that if i take the time to hunt everything I need, that detracts from how much I can do.

If I raise the price it does not sell.

I'm working on a new pricing system to make chef tissues comparable in cost to quality.

Know what?

That'll make those 87 BSN's around 4k a piece.

Know what else?

I don't care if they sell or not at the new price, 'cause I'm just a stinker.

Pretty soon the Doc's will get mind buffs and other buffs and the new Chef system will be gone too.

OR

Everyone will start using Non-Enhanced Brandy and such unless there is a MBE in the makers Guild and a bunch of hunter gatherers.

Well, back to pet stims and pets....ah, I can relax now

Oh listen, as a side thought, I'm happy for the meat collectors (Rangers,Scouts)

I hate the repetitive monotony of hunting large quantities (did 20k Rori Herbivore once myself)

I am a bit disappointed with no longer having "our own resource line" any longer.

I keep thinking

I've got a thought, we could start selling Injury/Wound Treatment Enhancers in exchange for Meat only. No cash sales...

Sorry Doc, if your Tailor wants these to make you clothes, it'll cost ya 20k meat with average 800+ stats.....

My solution to this problem was to take up swordsman. Since all my experience points are basically going towards being a master BE (with scout for maskscent, etc..), I can't master swordsman. I can only go as high as 4/4/4/4, but that's good enough for me to go out and get my own meat. I only have one chef and tailor that I work for, so I'm not swamped with just making tissues. Even though I get asked all the time to make huge runs for otherpeople, which I usually don't because it's too much of a pain to get the massive amount of meat they require. But by me taking up swordsman,I also have time to explore and create creatures as well, which I like to do. But I'll be damned if I'm going to pay the high prices for meat. Last night I got about 10k carnivore meat within the span of one buff (3 hours), and I was going at aslow pace because I also sample creatures for DNA while I hunt as well, killing tow birds with one stone. But if I just concentrate on getting meat, then I can usually get more within 3 hours. I usually try to get about 100k of meat, if it's a good spawn, and then I'm good for awhile. So maybe a solution for some people is to take up collecting your own meat. Of course that means dropping something from your character, but it's better than paying too much for meat. All depends on your priorities I guess and what you enjoy doing in the game. Hence, I like crafting (Master BE), and I like hunting and going on missionslike the Genosian caveas well (Swordsman).

personally, i wouldn't blame the Doctors for high meat prices (at least on my server). In my experience they usually hold out for the really great 1 or 2 types of meat they need and then offer 50-100cpu. What really seemed to hit the economy hard was when a month or two ago there was a decent spawn of wolly hide (not really that great a friend told me) that armorsmiths were offering 50cpu for. Since then, it would seem that noone wants to hunt for meat unless it's in that 45-50cpu pricerange. I even put up a post on my trade board saying that i would pay 20cpu for a type of meat, and even going to tell people where to get it and where they could leave it for me to get it. the only response i got was one guy first saying that he'd do it for 45cpu and then posting back saying nevermind someone was offering 50cpu and he felt i was trying to low-ball him. sent a PM and posted back publically that i couldn't afford more than about 20cpu and that for what i was making 20cpu was reasonable. I'm just glad i'm able to hunt well myself and have a ranger friend in guild who goes hunting with me just about any time i ask him to.

...you obviously missed the chef/BE pricing discussions, the prices we charge arent because we want to set a 'fair' price, a fair price would be around 80k a crate for BSNs, the prices are like they are because thats what chefs are willing to pay.

I charge 65k for synsteak and 80k for ahrisa. Those pricing arguements were only taking brandy into account, which is the cheapest of the chef line up on a per use cost. So 80k may only be a fair price from the BE point of view, not the chefs or the end customers. As a chef you still have to mark up those additives in case you do something stupid and list a bunch of crates at 30k rather than 80k. Cost of business I suppose.

Something to keep in mind, food prices are dropping, at least they are on starsider. Brandy goes for as little as 120k a crate. I don't move much brandy. My big seller is ahrisa and canape. On a per use basis it may be that brandy is my biggest seller still, but not on a per crate basis.

Those Janta missions are hurting the crafting professions that need animal resources. Also it isn't just doctors, it is the general consumption of food and armor as well. Supply is barely meeting demand while crafters are becoming more numerious bring prices down on the final product.

I wouldn't blame the doctors, I would blame the hunters taking the easy janta missions. My meat supply is holding for now, but only because I visit the bazaar a couple times and day hoping to get lucky.

i know... it's still probably forever away, but when it comes, docs won't be able to pay nearly as much because people won't pay nearly as much for doc buffs........ but then again, without buffs, i imagine it would be a lot harder to collect meat, people might charge more, prices for other meat products would raise accross the board

NEWS flash On bria many docs are Payin 200CPU. But Many are Makeing contracts and then unable to pay So they are shooting theselves in the foot. So many OF us hunters want Contracts that will be fair yet Consistant.

Im a Ranger and i hunt mainly for the thrill of the hunt. I dont use mission terminals. And would Love to get BE/Chef contracts. But i cant find any that are willing to make them. I mean 20k at 20-40 CPU is not a bad price as long as its a Vendor on a core world. Dont ask us to goto lok harvest Domesticated meat and drop on dantooine for 10 cpu. Its not gonna happen.

Please move to Sunrunner it's impossible to get anyone to hunt for less than 50cpu, currently the rangers are charging >175cpu for avian, hard to compete with.

A couple points were overlooked in my original post. I'd like to readdress them, since some people posted responses that ignored them.

1) Taking up a combat profession is not a solution. It is a sign that the economy does not work correctly. As I stated, I got into this game for the player-run economy. As a crafter, I should be able to pay for the resources that I need. Granted, supply and demand will cause some crafters to make more money than others, but it seems that the current supply and demand is highly unbalanced in the Doctor's favor.

2) Someone was in complete wonder at how I could have 70 million in the bank and not afford meat, and then said something to the effectof "you have to spend money to make money". Actually, as a fan of the player-run economy, I can assure you that I have always believed that "you have to spend money to make money". I also made it clear that at 100 cpu, my tissues would sell for 50k if I sold them at cost, and my chefs wouldn't buy them. So, sure, I could buy plenty of meat with my 70 million credits, but then I'd be stuck with tissues that I could only sell if I sold them for less than they cost me to make. That's not a sound business strategy.

I just started doing tissues about two months ago. I went completely broke buying all my resources for my first order, which was only a half run, and when the customer bought the tissues, I had only made 50K more than I spent on resources. I just couldnt get enough profit to really break into the market. I put up my own flora harvestor, but still no real luck. In the past few weeks, its also become nearly impossible to find a stack of meat larger than 5k, and those stacks are usually poor quality anyway. I now offer no tissues for tailors, decided to go tailor myself so that I can make some profit that way, and I only offer schematics for chefs to throw in their factories. They get their own resources, bring them to me, I charge 10k to make the schematic then and there for them or else they drop 100u of resources off at my vendor for each schematic they want, I make and then deliver to their vendor. Two customers buying schematics this way has given me more profit than my one customer that I made tissues for.
