Human male

Master BE/Master CH/some pistoleer

Master for just a few weeks

My comments are somewhat in line with Hylidex and ArthurDent. It seems to be random as to success. Although I don't notice a specific species correlation, there is most definitely a level correlation. That is, higher level Mereks are more likely to aggro than lower level Mereks. Also, it seems to vary from individual to individual. It seems that if I can get one sample, then I can keep on going till the creature dies. If they are going to aggro me, it seems more frequently to happen on the first try. I only rarely get aggroed after I manage to get that first sample. So I often find myself holding my breath on the first sample and letting it out once I get it and then sampling several more times. Move on to the next, aggro first time, run come back. Aggro again, try another one and success. Maybe I'm imagining it.

Mask scent though, is totally different. I'm in Hylidex's group. I cannot approach anything withouta fifty/fifty chance of itbeing broken. I'm serious. I've been out hunting with friends and my mask breaks far more often than theirs. One that I can speak of with some assurance is a Twi'lek female. Hers rarely, rarely breaks. We have to stop a lot though to let me redo mine. This is strange. Even with a bandolier of +19 to mask I still get de-masked very frequently. I think my character is either bugged or there is more to this than I understand.

Is there a cap on Mask Scent?

The reason that I ask is that I haven't really noticed any difference while sampling Merek Harvesters when

1. wearing just +25 clothing
2. wearing +25 clothing, +16 Jawa Bear, using the new Aroma thing.

I used to hop on my swoop when they detected me, break combat mode then try again. But I found that if I run away and spam peace, they eventually give up attacking. As soon as that happens I spam my sample macro and they're mine, all mine!

I chose Wookiee because I wanted to be a MCH/MBE from the beginning and wanted the +10 Taming bonus. Can't say I know how Wookiees compare to other species though.

Seems to me there is quite a variation in success rate from Mutant Rancor to Mutant Rancor. If I get several failures in a row from an MR, I switch to another MR and often have much better success. Or, I stand between 2 or 3 and alternate between them to avoid continually trying to sample from one difficult one. Or count 10 seconds after asample attemptbefore trying again to let them calm down (to reduce chance of aggro).

Also, sometimes I try for an hour or twoand getno samples. Other times I can get 10 or 15 samples within an hour or two. This could be related to the variation among creatures of the same type. Maybe sometimes I just have trouble finding 'easy' MRs.

Also, creatures with veryhigher ferocity, like the Great Plains Stalker and MRs will actually attack my pet. Sometimes I tell my pet to 'Stay' 70-80m away from the GPS or MR so my pet won't spook them. Sampling the GPS is nearly impossible withmy pet following and guarding me.

Also, creatures that have already been spooked are more easily spooked again.

1. Human

2. TKM and a little artisan for vendor and sampling needs.

3. No way to test.

4. BE for about a 9 months.

My sample ratewith high level mobs is fair (20 -40%) andgood/great(40-70%) with lower levels. It does seem to vary though. One day dewbacks will be super easy and another they're just a pain to get DNA out of. I usually have the best luck with MS clothing and J-beer and by walking up to the critter from behind (especially if they're a red con) without my waeppon equipped.

I wonder if the weather has any affect on our sucess rate. Seems to me that nice days/nights give me a better chance at sucess but I've never paid any real attention to it.

Zabrak till last spring then human (worse results in sampling with human or is it only me liking zabrack

TKM artisan

BE since october 2003

noticed there could be made an association btw high BF and low results in sampling not aggroed

noticed increased failure number after second big patch in profession

Bothan

MCH

MBE

Swordsman

This may be totally coincidental, but I have noticed that I have greater success rates when I have two "Natural" Grauls out while I am sampling. I regularly sample Volitors on Dantooine, usually get 5 samples per Volitor and rarely get aggro'd... I don't use Jawa beer but I do have enhanced scent masked BE Clothes. Seems that when I sample with my BE pets out I get aggro'd more often.

Maybe it is the sight of a Bothan carrying a hammer larger than he is tall that keeps the nasty lizardsfrom attacking; or maybe Bothans taste bad... I dunno.

Oh yeah... I have been a MBE for over a year and the Volitors that I am sampling are the Vexed... I also see the same with the Relic Reaper Quenker DNA sampling also.

I played wookiee first, then restarted as human. I noticed more natural aggro from aggro creatures for my human toon (none of them had mask scent, both were Docs).

DNA luck comes and goes just like loot luck. Some days are good, others really bad. Same goes for crafting.

Only thing I believe is that Wookiees get less creature aggro, but I am think that DNA failure will cancel that out.
