Thread: A short course for those who missed the announcements of Novemeber 2nd.
I just bought 3 accounts two weeks ago. I will be cancelling them this evening. The whole reason I came was for the complexity and uniqueness of the system. If I wanted an other cookie-cutter game, I would have stayed in WoW. I an furious. I almost didn't buy the game because I know of SOE's reputation of being greedy. This just confirmed it. I will not be a part of another disaster just so that they can make all their games simular enough to be able to save money on developers. The creature Hunter class was also one of the best done "pet" classes I have seen. Why did I just waste my time and money.
Oh, one more thing. if you make items where they do not degrade, you will send your market belly up. Have you people not learned this lesson yet? Crafter's depend on this. Duh!
Myself, and my 5 friends that play are all cancelling and moving on. Congratulations SOE. Welcome to the same List as Earth and Beyond. I will never, I mean never waste my money on your games again.
Wow...What is there left to say. I remember how long I labored to writea grinding guide for BE almost 2 years ago (http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=bio-engineer&message.id=58059) and think about how much the profession meant to me. I loved the pets I created, the palattes, the complete screw ups (many probably don't even remember when we could crit fail on final assembly).
I experimented during the CU with combat and put my BE roots away, but I'll never forget that BE was my first mastery badge back when you had to have medic and scout prereqs. I worked for a year to get MBE. It was the best profession around.
It was the magical profession...the one whose rules were hard to decipher and challenging to understand. Not simple like a sword fight, or pointing a pistol. It was the intellectual profession. And perhaps that is why SOE has decided to remove it. Despite representing a mere 1% of the master professions, the MBE was the king of the crop: intelligent and wise, artsy, and whimsical. And perhaps, that's why SOE couldn't support that profession: it is not what kids are looking for these days.
But...it was the profession for the distinguished taste. It was more than enhancers for chefs and tailors. It was about creating beasts in a game...something that no other MMPOG had.
/cheers to my fellow MBEs.

Speechless...
I beta tested SWG, and all I can say is the dream died a long time ago, this is simply admitting that the Devs have failed their customers and would rather thin down their game than work out how to make pets work in a twitch-based environment, while maintinaing the fabled and never-achieved illusion of "balance".
It's kind of ironic that Lucas re-made Episode IV in part by adding in many more pets in Mos Eisley, and now LucasArts is remaking SWG by taking the pets out.
I will miss my big cats, actually I have missed them ever since the CU broke them, and the "fix" broke them more to CL180.
I don't know why they don't just put BioE into one of the craft professions, and make pet handling a free skill to all classes. Just keep the power of pets lower if you have to, not dissimilar to droids, so we can stay and play, and keep the game dynamic. I'd rather keep my pets as a nice-but-not-essential play element than lose them entirely.
