on November 1st, a small group of players was invited to Austin to see firsthand the changes coming to SWG.

Igie (psychopyro, the brawler correspondent) was one of the players invited, and he was the first to break the news. here's the thread. many players thought this post was a joke in poor taste.

Julio Torres, Producer - LucasArts, followed up with a letter to the community. poorly written in parts and ambiguous in others, it granted Dev credibility to Igie's seemingly bizarre assertions to a doubting community.

since then, Tiggs has posted more information... the Dev Tracker has the most up-to-date posts... the new NGE forums offer most of the current information, such as an NGE (New Game Enhancements) FAQ, and a follow-up set of questions and answers.


if you haven't already read the threads linked above, here's the quick synopsis:

BioE and CH have been removed from the game. SWG NGE features NINE single-class professions, an FPS (semi-twitch-based) 'modeless' interface, and a level system from 1 to 90.


for better or worse, this is the ride we're on. buckle up, duck and cover.

EDIT:

the NGE (New Game Enhancements) are currently on Test Center. they are scheduled to go Live on November 15th.

SWG Devs hit lammergeier for 1gazillion points of nerf damage. Lammergeier stumbles and falls after valiantly attempting to defend using playerBEdontwantthisjunk, and is instantly vaporised to blue glowie status, taking all existing BioEngineers with him.

This is not the ride we are on.

This is not the time to buckle in.

This is the time to finally get off...

Unite with us creature handlers.

Unite with all the professions they are stripping from this game.

It is time we fight back...

Ok we'll be leaving the game eventually, but not without giving some "feed back" as they like so much to refer to.

I am BE since november 2003. I love the profession and it always made me feel useful. It was a relief in times when fighting was not possible during the big unbalance of buffs and armors, it was a relief when the CU took so many fo my friends away. Please take me into consideration in any form of protest you make.

And another why I'm probably leaving...

When I started this game (my first MMORPG), it was because it had space combat, and I'm a big fan of the old TIE fighter game. I played a smuggler/medic/pilot fora week, got the idea that I might like to create some pets, and created a second character on a second server.

I haven't touched the old character since then.

I'm now hooked on the game because I get to craft interesting, thought-requiring items (pets), and because I've met some great people. I'll wait long enough to see if the new crafter profession is worth it, but filling up vendors is not what I want to pursue. Depending on how things go, maybe there'll still be some custom crafting opportunities (I'm working on an armorsmith alternate, but I have no intention of trying to keep vendors stocked, I want to stick to crafting to order).

Oh well, I was wondering how I'd find the time to play Elder Scrolls IV when it comes out next month. Now I know.

I swear.. I don't look at the forums for 2 days and BAM .. *rocks back and forth in the corner*

I'm so mad right now I can't see straight .. and yes i have my glasses on . All the notes that I have .. all the time and effort. I've esentially been a BE since the beginning of the game. I have 3 char's that are BE across 3 galaxies. I just feel so sick.

Granted, I'll give the crafting a try and the other professions, but I know that none will be like BE ... unique. It was unique with the way that pets are made ... I always had a blast trying to sneak up on a purple con red dot. Even tho I'd get frustrated b/c I'd get experimentation happy, it was still fun.

I thank everyone for all the information you all shared as well as all the calculations.

Thank you Dor for your great insight on many a things and thank you Lamm for being a great BE corr .. even tho the devs are hard headed and hardly listened.

I feel like crafting some "furniture" pets with unflattering names.

It is really too bad we can't craft snakes.

A sad day for us all.

I remember reaching MBE, my first tortur, my first screen shake, my first cl10 pet sale, my first pet Lantyssa deemed "better than her average ones". I remember mastering CH, pulling out my 3 favorite BE pets at the same time, I remember being a member of a broken profession but still being able to fight. Those were good times...
