Thread: Bio-engineers ignored... again!! ( or SWGs Producer thinks BE is enjoyable atm)
just one thing, chefs currently can make a blue milk, but itsa drink, and requires milk to make it. And I dont see chefs making milk a logical way to the problem. There is only one way to get milk, and everyone knows that(Unless its that cheapo dont taste like milk in a can or powder form, and I dont think that will go well in SWG)
So I would scratch that possibility off the list. Only logical way is to introduce Bio-harvs. But as far as these go, I think it should only be available for certain classes. Not everyone. They should allow certain certifications for classes like us and chefs, etc. , to allow for a better market.

Well you have to agree about the Chef's, and DE's are not that much better off then we are
Not sure about that. As I understand it all there specials work its just a few broken droid bodies. However all the bodies are just different cosmetically. So they seem to be very much working. Since I've had a really good droid since week4 of thegame (I paid 20K for that first droid), I'd say there class was working pretty darned well.
Tal-N,
I usually agree with and respect the stuff you say, but I think this post is a little selfish. I'm a master BE/CH but I have tried the smuggling and DE professions. First off is DE, sure they can make dorids, but what are they really used for? Get one with a crafting station and you're set, maybe only pay to get it customized every once in a while. When they said there was a DE profession before beta, I expected them to at least be able to make the trade fed droids from episode 1. They get probots which have been to nerfed to the point of being pointless, and its really sad because you see more droids being used in the movies than creatures.
(Actually there a good post called "You know you're a DE when..." on the DE forum which although funny, really makes you feel for your fellow players.)
Now smuggler, its a thrown together profession. Sure you get slicing, but what? Weapons and armor? Its a good thing, but smugglers by definition should SMUGGLE. There's nothing in that profession to suggest moving illegal goods. The pistol moves are okay, but why then do you need unarmed 4 for novice smuggler? Spices are pointless since the after effects are so extreme, no one is willing to pay dearly for them. Don't even get me started on the first column of skills that are practically worthless. To sum it all up, smuggler is half-assed and needs a major overhaul because next to BH its should be one of the coolest true-to-movies professions.
(Think about when the space expansion comes out, you tell someone you smuggle goods on your craft, WOOHOO, who cares anyone can because no one checks. But you've spent skill points on smuggling...)
Now do I think BE can't get any better? Certainly not, but I am happy with BE for right now. I like making my own tissues to use in my and friend's clothing, just like I am happy using the rancor I crafted when getting master BE. I will be happy if they add more clones and even creature customization.
The one thing I would like to see fixed is experimentation on creature since its only a one shot deal right now. Other than that I can wait until some other things come about, because other classes have functions that don't work at all or don't add anything to the game.
So look outside your profession for once, and cruise some of the other professions' top issues. Just because we all bitch at equal levels doesn't mean some problems can't be bigger than others.

Smugglers can't smuggle, so what. Where in any of the movies did you ever see Solo smuggle anything? I heard him talk about it, but all I ever saw him do was Hide from bad guys (feign death) talk big, and shoot the crap out of bad guys. Also smugglers don't smuggle goods by running from town to town. Those are mules, and please don't ruin my internal image of Solo with a crate full of stolen spice hidden in his rectum. (my appologies to whom that might offend.) We don't have ships yet, I bet that's when smuggling will come out. So they can't smuggle, I can't make clones, and De's can't make combat droids, and chef's can'tcook.
Smugglers don't have an entire other class called "spiceusers" who find the best spice under rocks invalidating them. They also don't use NPC slicers. So you can service the customer by yourself.
For us there are broken pets (which usually only sell to people as a spur of the moment item) or are specially made. (Gurrecks and Rancor only).
There is also the tissue line, which works for chefs (who there are so few of I won't speak of them). As for skill tissues we have wookie roar (which 12 out of 12 wookies asked will reply "it's broken and I don't use it"), Cover (which the high level requires mollusk) Tame (cool, what it needs milk?) scent mask (wait it has to go on field clothes well that's not so bad, except they aren't as popular but it works) Dance skills (those work, but it makes entertainers my best customers just like they were with jaxes but at least I can sell them) and medical use (which I already sold to people before the patch) oh yes lets not forget bleed defence, which I get at least 5 tells a day telling me it doesn't work. But thank goodness we have Pet Stimms, they're the reason we exist. <== sarcasm

I feel for the chefs, DE's and such out there. But I think they're just getting the same treatment we got back a few months ago. A brilliantly worded plan to change the class to something better with the broad stroke of the brush. And just as hollow, it's SOE's way of saying "I feel your pain" and trying to make us feel better.
Some classes are always going to be the the littles girlscouts the the jamboree either because they aren't popular or they are too hard to implement.

Heres what Tee's me off. They act like its just the cloning line thats messed up, lol man, tissue line is totally borked. I mean hell, im all for de, chefs getting fixes cause chef is down right pathetic class right now but wth? Look at our tissue line. They think cause they put pet stims in it, it makes the lines useful and fun? Im about getting sick and tired of it. I'm serious.
None of those stats that we can put on clothes are useful or wanted. The ingredients to make them are stupid. Most of the Pet stimpacks cant be made unless you like sitting on the watersedge 8 hours a day fishing. The chef food buff items are worthless whether chefs get fixed or not. The cloth enhancements all suck. Theres none anybody wants. If your gonna bother to give me stat boost items, give me some that increase just about every stat in the game or dont waste my time with crap like "cover" and "warcry". I could go on and on about how F'ed up this class is. Making pet stims does not justify this F'ing class.
Were nearing the 6 month mark of this game and the BE class is still as pathetic as it was on June 26. Patience is running out and I think most of the Bios have been patient enouph. Us not being on that list like Tal said makes it out like the Bio class is injust as good ofshapeas the CH. Thats about as false as false can get. We may not be as bad as the des and chefs, but we sure as hell are worse then the smuggler. The DE at this point only real use is making droids to give people crafting and medical stations. Okay what is the bio engineer use? I'll tell you.....making pet stims for chs (a's andb's...dont get me started on pet stim c's and d's)and making rancors and gurrecks. That sums up the bio class as things we can make.Do not point out the tissue line as things we can make, I dont even wanna hear it.We got one line that does nothing but sample DNA for our clone line. A whole line JUST to get dna to make clones and then we get another line for exper. I cannot get overthat we only have 2 lines of items to make and 97% of the items are complete garbage and a waste. Last patch, all they did was make DNA changes that did nothing in my book and take out a few tissues that were from beta that the stat had been removed from the game, LMAO. Think about it, three months after release and one of the main things they have done for the bio is take out tissues that had stat enhancements of statsthat were removed in beta. Come on now. I was happy they fixed factories but it was pathetic they were still broke after 3 months. As it stands now, the clone fixes are not going in any earlier then the middle of december even though we weretold they would go in this patch. This is getting down right dumb now.
I like the idea of this class and what could be done with it, but its getting really frustrating now to have all these skill points tied up in a class that is nothing but a vet at this point.
sillyrodian I just read your post after I posted mine. Sorry man, I know what your saying but this class is not better then the smuggler...period. Just cause they cant "smuggle" does not mean they are broke. I dont know what smuggler issues are to be honest so i'll shut up about that but I do know they are not worse then us. The spices they make are not all broke and useless, I know for a fact cause I use moun gold all the time. I do know the DE and chef issues though and I agree they are worse then us, but we still should have been on that list period and Tal has a right to say so cause I agree with him.
You might be okay with making tissues to enhance stats like warcry and cover, but im not. I want real items with a real use. Not watered down wannabe items of a class thrown together at the end of a beta test. I want major fixes and a total revamp of this class. It needs it and people are justified to say it needs it.
Toady,
What players are you talking to about the tissues. Taking out the chef ones all other tissues are pretty good. Experimentation onthem is fine. At master BE I have /tell upon /tell of tailors asking for the mask scents/injury treatment ones. I don't mass produce tissues so I point them elsewhere, but to say they're entirely useless is a bit offbase. (I've also made +16 ones of each for me and my friends to use, so I know they work.) Now maybe you're referring to the ones that use very rare resources and that's fine. I think pet stims should be harder to make at the higher levels. I know the pet stim a's I made were equal to a regular small stim c, and that's a a pretty good amount of healing for such a low lvl stim. If pet stim d's were super easy to make there would be no use for doc's/combat medics in groups because the tanks would take all the dmg and everyone could take turns healing the pet. Then people using pets is all the more powerful than those without.

Toady,
I cgotta disagree because think we are better off than smugglers. We as BE's want to engineer biological items, we can do that with clones and tissues. Now look at Han Solo as a smuggler, what can a smuggler do that he did in any of the movies? Maybe pistol moves, but there's just something lacking from the profession that I see in the movies. Not letting smugglers smuggle, or give them a stealth skill is kinda dumb, and it just makes the whole profession look thrown together at the last minute.
Now I know BE was a later profession added in beta, but it is still pretty cool considering. The one thing I can agree sort of with you on is that I expected tissues to be cooler. (Although +16 to stats is pretty good.) When I first saw tissues I thought that they were enhancements to use on the creature to boost their stats, much like DE's have armor/data/storage/crafting components. Even though they can be used in clothes is cool because TK's are better in clothes than in armor because it slows them down, but BE clothes help give them an edge with some boosts to different resists.
I think we're really okay for the time being, especially if they get the fixes they're talking about into the next patch. To say we've not made any progress from launch is another false statement. Adding explanations to the tissues alone was a HUGE step, since before we had to guess what each tissue did.
Now if you want to say the tissues aren't usable by your character specifically, now that's another problem, but its one you have to address with your character. People that complain they can make creatures and can't use them need to make the choice of becoming a CH or not, just like those that complain about having to use tissues or not need to make a choice on tailor/chef. That's not a problem with the class though, its a problem of making a choice on spending your skill points. Don't confuse those problems with the problems of other professions not being able to do what was expected or intended for them to do.
Thanks for your responsible remarks though, because I do respect your opinions, I just think we're better off than other professions. We're not perfect, but I like where the class is sitting and the possible future it may be taking soon.
