Thread: Tissues and titles and birds.. oh my..
Last time I saw this mentioned, opinion was pretty much split like this and that was a long time ago. I don't think anyone mentioned it for the Last Top 5. Honestly, I don't think it's a critical issue compared to things like the bugs in the cloning system, rare resources or lack of tissues.

I personally like the breeder title. No one can tell me they haven't thought about putting that title on before going into a cantina and trying to get some afk twi'lik.
Well, as far as chef additives go, I still remain pretty synical about the whole thing. In order for this to be a viable market, the number of chefs (real chefs, not holo ones) would probably have to grow by 10x or more. I just don't see that happening as doctors have become THE buffing class in the game without question, and then when you consider their other abilities aside from buffing I don't see many people choosing chef over doctor/medic any time soon.
Also there is the economic part. I believe there is a pretty firm upper limit on what someone will pay for a buff, no matter how good the buff. It's a pretty simple calculation really, you take how much you earn for a mission and compare that to the amount you are spending in buffs to do that mission and you'd better be firmly in the black for it to even be a consideration.
Chefs are already charging up to 100k for a single crate of food, obviously with no bio additives in it at all. Even if the devs recognize the stupidity of making the bio additives require so much in the way of costly materials (more than the food itslelf in manycases)and reduce it substantially (and there is not much reason to believe they will), just how cheap can they make them that chefs will see them as desireable without making the end product so expensive that nobody will touch it? I mean even ata 10k/crate wholesale cost to chefsthis may be toomuch to be viable regardless of the benefits.
Oh I am up to date Tal. A buff is a buff whether it's to HAM or two some secondary statistic or ability. The only difference is that doctors and entertainers have very very attractive and powerful ones, and they seem to cost them far far less to "make".
Lower incap times? masked scent bonus? terrain navigation bonus? *yawn*. Nope, that's not gonna do it. I realize that's just the artisan ones and the chef ones (hopefully) will be far far better, but still I really can't see this making a dent in the buffing market that is already defined by the big increases in HAM stats that doctors and entertainers can do.
And the real question isn't really this stuff is any good anyway, it's whether it's going to make people flock to the chef profession. So far, I really don't see anything that would tell me that this is going to happen.

The schematics aren't public yet, isn't it early to make this assumption? And remember to get buffs from a doctor, you have to find the doctor. Anyone can carry around crates of food and eat it at any time they have room in their stomach. From the list I've seen, Chefs are going to be greatly in demand.

Well Auther if you don't see free skill enhancements as a huge benefit then it's your loss. Frankly I see any skill enhancements as a real benefit especially considering how skill tapes and such sell for vast amounts of money on any server.
Free? I guess you haven't bought any crates of TS, Glucose Pate, or Breath of Heaven lately, rofl. What's really hilarious is that I could buya masked scent +17 shirt for I'm sure a lot cheaper then a single crate of the food that would give me the same bonus.
Oh, and as far as skill tapes go, they have become a big joke. Anyone willing to spend hours on end sifting through piles of junk in certain locations of the game can fill up your backpack with them. And those really ARE free. Ever wonder how it is that some players can have an auction for 30 different skill tapes? Now you know why.
I haven't seen anything from chefs that indicate to me that they will be in high demand (though I always have a crate of Fishak and Ormachang (sp?) with me). But I'm hoping they will change that. If a Doctor can give a 2000 HAM buff that lasts 3 hours (and finding one to do it is rarely difficult), why not let chefs give one that lasts for 15 minutes?
Who are the morons that decided that chefs are the buffing profession and then gave doctors the best buffs? Doctors have plenty of other things they can do already, if the devs had listened to the players at all during beta they would have avoided that embarrassing move.
Nice list, but I'd like to give a counterpoint on the issue of bird bodies:
Currently birds are the fastest of all creatures (quite a bit faster than cats). They are they only pet that can overtake a speeder and keep up with a swoop. Restricting the birds to be CH only keeps some exclusivity for CH and also provides a bit of balance for the BE pets. Leaving it as is presents players with a decision: Do you want a fast pet or do you want a powerful pet: you can't have both. Tradeoffs such as this are a good thing.

Oh but wait, there is no such thing as +terrain negotiation clothing or acts like armor or instantly heals the mind pool or increased dodging chances or lower the cost of burst run or increase the players general accuracy or reduces the duraction of all DOT attacks.. ect.. ect.. so yeah, enjoy your shirt
Makes me wonder exactly how intelligent our characters are, they can make things but are super stupid when it comes to simple things.
Yeah I can understand why there should be some Creature handler only creatures to a point.
But in truth if thats the case then there should be some Bio-Engineered Creatures Only too.
In fact from a scientific perspective there should be alot more Bio-Engineered only things.
But since I can understand the difficulties of making the palletes and creature frames and such(still not sure why things have 16 shades of the same color or why there is no scaling control but then what ever) then I am not too upset about what is possible so far.
As for the reasoning of Birds being faster then speeders and things....LOL...if they where used as mounts that would be one thing, but they are not and they are small group.
I suspect that there is a plan in the future to add more things to the bio-Engineer list and to wild things outside.
(Such as fish and underwater cities and such...yeah I noticed the open spaces underwater and the stuff being put in those places for decorative purposes)
My own suggestion is to add some special creature (no not more of the same stuff with different titles and stats) for creature handlers and some special creatures for Bio-Engineers (like some obvious crossbreed things, banthas with wings and such, and no they dont have to be able to fly)
I also suggest a Level box on the crafting tool displaying at right at the time of puting DNA into the system displaying an approximate Creature Level, which will continue to display all throughout the crafting seession.
Modern Molecular biologist dont even fly as blind as we do...sheesh...they just lack the equipment mostly.
And lastly I suggest a Nutrient Tank device that would allow certain proffessions to do things over time.
Like cultivate a creature or clone or food or even a plant to have more things on it or to take things off, or let people get healed over time(why must Non-player characters keep doing everything...Deus Ex-machine is all that is and a cop out)
oh well...thats my 14 cents worth on this topic.
