I'll break it down for those that are interested. People are going to post "I want to buy" threads regardless. That's pretty well established. I'm not advocating spam threads. I'm advocating an approach to spam threads. My approach has nothing to do with making money. I don't need the money anymore. How many millions does one player need anyway? It has everything to do with treating people respectfully. A side effect of being respectful just happens to be more business.
Someone posts saying I want to buy, chef, tailor, or creature handler, it makes no difference. The thread is there whether its against the rules or not. Its floating in the BE forum for everyone to see. Now you have a choice to make. You can:
Ignore the thread completely.
One star the thread and not post.
One star and pointout the"this is not a trade forum" thread
Five star and post saying "I'm the BE you've been looking for."
Forget the star system and say "check out this list of BE's we created to help customers such as yourself."
You can point out the rules all you like. The threadsare still there and they are not locked and they are not deleted. Your approach to themis a choice completely yours to make. I've made mine.

When they are reported, that are deleted, however most prefer the star system to express their feelings rather than the report to moderator button.
But just as people have the right to report trade posts, you have the right to report any post that you feel is rude and abusive.
no matter how long this discussion goes back and forward, the rules are the rules its not up to us, its up to the moderators.
And just as its inevitable that people will post trade messages in profession forums it is aslo inevitable that people will one star and flame. It happens in ALL crafter forums, not just ours. (I know cos I went through them this morning to look
)
If you dont like what someone posts, report them and let the moderators sort it out.

Nancy,
I don't think that that is a realistic assesment of the situation, and Ihappen to think that there is plenty that we can do, including trying toaddress the root cause, which is helping ch/tailors/chefs find be's who want to be found while at the same time reducing spam. The only messages that I've ever reported are the really abusive ones, and I'd say about half of those are deleted 48 hours later, and the other half are not delted at all. But we can test this theory next time we get a spammer... muahahahaha. What's the over/under on it? I say 48 hours. Any wagers?

Yep, those posts will be made regardless. Now, the question is, "How do we keep those threads to a minimum?" Some people will just ignore any rules or 'read me first' posts and just post anyway. Others will read some posts on the board before making their decision to post. Now, if those others read some of the posts those who feel they are above the rules make concerning trade, do you think they are more likely to make their own trade posts if they see that post shot down, or if they see it work? If you reward bad behavior, all you will get is more bad behavior.
I think maybe you have a good solution though Nancy. Since some people see telling rule breakers that they are breaking the rules, perhaps everyone should just start reporting the trade requests without responding to them. Then those who think breaking the rules is fine won't be offended by pointing out the rules, and those who are offended by the rule breakers won't have to put up with the spam trade posts on the forum anymore.

Personally I'd prefer it if they were just left alone and ignored. But thats never gonna happen, no matter what i do to allieviate the situation, having the vendor thread so prominently displayed led to *more* abuse of those who didnt check it first than it does now, something for which, you may recall several people thought I should be sacked over.
I cant please everyone.
Aruthur, i'd take you up on the wager, but I'd be cheating if I did heh, I have 1337 mod beckoning skills lol
