Thanks RancorPoker (great name!). I decided to go TKM as well as Master BE, so getting aggro'd tends to be the least of my problems (I tanked 4 of them last night, armoured but unbuffed apart from Powerboost).
The problem is always getting close, I use the crawl from 65m method, freezing when MS breaks. (I also use Jawa Beer and +25 MS clothing). I know this has been done to death in other threads, but they do seem to be tougher to get close to than they used to be.
In fact my luck with them has got so bad that I dread the /tell for a Lvl 70 creature (Must be lvl 70, dont want 2 lvl 35s which would be far more effective =/).
I'll give the /peace macro a go. Didnt know that they may not DB if you dont fight back.

Now that would be a quality picture. You friendly neighbourhood BE getting dragged along by a Rancor on the end of his line.

I will have to give the macro a try. I have +25 maskscent clothing and use +13 jawa beer just in case, but geez, these things have better noses than bloodhounds!
Itry my best to use any terrain advantage to my benefit. A couple of weeks ago, I could consistantly sneak up on a group of Mutant Rancors by walking up to them from behind a tree. I got aggro'd more times from sampling attempts gone bad than them seeing me. Plus, I look for exclamation points over their heads. If I see one, I stop dead in my tracks until it disappears. If they break my scent I back up a bit and wait. Usually, they don't attack me at this point.
I know this is wimpy, but I keep my landspeeder nearby incase things go horribly wrong. Getting into it is often a problem though.
But I have to admit, the most difficult thing about sampling MRs is warping when I dismount from my speeder. I usually end up in the middle of them. I have to remember to hit my dismount macro to avoid that.
Last night, I was sampling King and Queen Merek Harvesters for fun and my mask help up nearly perfectly. I was quite surprised since any typre of Borgle detects me even if I am passing by at quite a distance from them.
Love,
Riani

Hmm, I have master scout with the +25 mask scent clothing and the +15 jawa beer and they RARELY snap my mask. I was between two spawns last night and not a single snap. I gathered 42 samples last night.

rancorpoker (your name makes me idolize you) your scent isnt getting snapped because you forgot one thing, you (like i) are bothan (surperior), so we get +10 to camo, plus my 2x rebel rings give me 16 camo

True to camo, but I"m just 0030 Ranger and I don't use camo kits... I can't. I simply use maskscent.

So... Revisiting this idea from the past, did anyone adopt this technique? If so, is it still used today? I ask because I got an order for a lvl70 and I'm out of MR DNA. I'm hesitant to get a buff because it just seems... Wrong. Anyhoo, I am lined up for a set of 50% kinetic Chitin with low HAM so that should be dandy. I'll go vintage style tonight and see what happens.

Good guide. I posted my tricks a while back.Only thing you could maybe mention is the mask scent bonus from the Aroma Screen booster stim thing. I find even with Exploration IV, +25 from clothes, and +15 or so from Jawa, the +10 from the Aroma Screen still makes a big difference. I think you get them off of Chunkers.

I find that bazaar terminals and loot vendors drop them in higher frequency
