Thread: Please read this before posting the How do I make this pet? Threads.

How can you not read it that way? "Don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out" is a quote from the post. And the clear implication is that we're not here to spoon feed people.
Tal, the statements that "we're not here to spoon feed people" and "don't let the dorr hit you in the ass on the way out" are not one and the same. His post clearly implies the former, but not the latter. There is a big difference, and while I agree with what he's saying, it probably doesn't deserve a sticky just because it is a little bit "cold" perhaps. But anyhow, I do feel the same way that he does. People come here and say "how do I make a CL 49 with 60% kinetic and 54% energy and exactly 245 damage and strong poison and stunning strike, I need this by tomorrow cause I justmade master BE and I've never made a pet beforeand a customer is paying me 100k for it?" And in general the best answer to that is always: 1) read the faq, 2) ask questions about the process of crafting until you understand that, and 3) do some experimentation yourself and document your results. I don't have a problem with those that post recipes and precise steps on how to create a certain pet and all that, we've had some interesting discoveries because of posts like that, but in general I believe in the "teach a man to fish" concept rather than simply throwing them a couple of sardines. And I think that is the real message here.

I think the idea here is for the quick and dirty people to get their quick and dirty recipie ideas from the FAQ.
I read this message in the BC (before coffee) hours but I still do not find it offensive. Obviously it has come to light that a different interpretation of the message could be taken by some readers.
We want this forum to be a happy place where we can share new recipes and ideas and help new players to the profession.
I've been posting a lot of information gathering topics lately and the responses have been underwhelming. I could probably name all the regular posters here without even looking and this isnt good.
We need to encourage more new players to the profession. And yes we're going to hear a lot of the same questions over and over again - and I wish there were forum macros but there arent. We just need to have a little more tolerance, and maybe count to 10 before posting

Remember, this thread is not attacking anyone. It is mearly stating that constant threads that ask for pet recipies without the poster even trying to do it on his/her own will be, and should be ignored. Lets face it,grinders do just that, grind. They then come out as master and have no idea how to go about making a pet. Since making a pet is very complex compared to any other crafting instance, the easy way is to ask on the board for recipies. Now, unless you've never done a crafting proffession in your entire time on SWG, you know that every crafting board has a FAQ stickey. The problem with the pet FAQ is that it is long, and justifyably so since it is a long, drawn out and complex process, especially if you get into second generation stuff (not sure if that's in the FAQ...) Anyway, the quick fix folks aren't too in to reading allthat, mainly because you pretty much have to take notes in order to get all the great info stored up in the FAQ. Who the hell wants to take notes to play a game?
You just answered your own question. Most of the repeated posts come from the "quick fix folks" that don't take the time to read what's in front of them. And if they are not reading the faq or other threads that have the answers they are looking for, what makes you think they will read this thread?
I don't not understand all there is to know. Heck, I'm not even a BE. I am a MCH, and have read this board for ages. I believe in being an informed consumer. Many of the pets I have asked for and not the usual uber level 10 or massive level 70 that many of you get. I need to know if what is reasonable to ask for at certain levels. Before buying my first pet I looked at as many vendors and talked to as many BE's as I could. I found that besides a wide range in prices for similar pets, there was a wide range of stats in mid and high level pets. It's not unusual to find a higher level pet being sold whose stats are worse than a pet 10 or 20 levels lower, yet being sold for much more as though it were a top notch pet. So, I learned. In fact, I have helped a few MBE's with their research and taught them a few things they did not know. These things I learned on this board and from other websites. This thread, as it was written, is a slap in the face to all of us who are not all knowing as some of the elders, do research what we can, yet still have questions to ask. Obviously I'm not the only one who feels this way.
And lets be honest here folks. Such threads haven't worked before on other boards. What makes you think that you are so special that they will magically listen to you? I agree that it stinks having to see the same posts again and again. I even understand pointing someone towards the faq and other threads in a strong tone, or ranting in their thread. They will no doubt read it. You are reaching you target audience then. However, there are those of use who do read this board, and do take the time to research before asking questions about recipes and other such things. We are the ones you have reached and offended. For you to further demand that we should not be so offended only further insults us and just how elite you are. So what if there have been multiple similar posts about the same topics for past three weeks? This has been going on since this game started. It's the nature of the beast. Learn to move on if it bothers you that much. No, I'm not saying leave the boards or the game, just ignore the post. In fact this occurs to some extent on every board I've ever seen, whether it a game, sports, political, or technical. If you’re bothered enough by it then respond to that post, in that post. Don't start a new thread to flame, and definitely don't flame the community as a whole for something a few bad apples are doing.

I'm sure your decision to repost this in a more diplomatic way was the wiser Nancy... I just hope the words you use are not ambiguous... Most of us, I think, dont want to see our community flooded with trade posts and "how do I make this pet" posts.
There is a dedicated forum for those who wish to sell or find services (called the trade forums oddly enough). You also made a sticky thread with a list of BE vendors. Furthermore, there is also an in-game profession search feature for those who cannot find what they need in their trade forums.
There is simply no reason why there should be trade forum posts here. In the Bria forums, if one makes a trade forum post it is deleted by the forum mod. It doesnt matter if they couldnt find what they were looking for in the trade forums or not as the Bria forums (like the BE forums) is not a place to do business... It is a place to discuss Bria issues or, in the case of the latter, discuss BE issues.
As far as the "how do I make this pet", there is the FAQ stickied to the top that contains more then enough info to get one started down the right path... There is also a HUGE thread with pet recipes of all kinds... from CL10s to CL70s.
If one feels as though they are stuck at a certain point, I'm sure most of us would be more then happy to help!!
However, if one chooses to be rude and disrespect the community of dedicated MBE by asking for a "short cut" in our pet making process they should be forewarned that such things are frowned upon.
This is true in any crafting forum you go to. No profession likes to have asshats come to their board who obviously want to put minimum effort into the profession and ride on the backs of those who spend considerable time learning their crafts.
In short, the caliber of player that posts either off-topic tradeposts, cluttering up our screens with irrelevant topics PUSHING down relevant threads, **and** those who wish to put no effort into learning this professionshould **not** get the feeling they are welcomed.
Just my two cents
