Thread: Naming items
Actually started thinking about moving the color after the name while restocking my vendor the other day as well. I just couldent get over that it didnt sound right.
Still trying to decide on which way to do it.
I know it was suggested before that I put my brand first but I didnt like that because when its in the player's inventory it shortens the name. They would have 5 items all saying "Mai Brand: Blue..." instead of "Blue Shorts: M..." They at least get an idea of what it is that way.
Labeling it Shorts Blue just sounds weird.
I make sure I label something socketed or not ... that seems to be an important quality with customers so I always mention if the items are socketed.
So a typical name would look like: Gunmans Duster (socketed) by Sundra
I think having my name in the description is important ... I get a LOT of repeat business from folks that remember my name.
I always keep the name as it was at the start as people know what they are looking for and need that familiarity when they look on the bazaar/ in theirinventory.
So I use: Items_Original_Name (Colour) My_Name
so I get for example: Reinforced Jacket (Black w/ Grey Trim) Jyanna
Although in the past I used to name them: 'colour item my_name' but I recognised from using the bazaar myself and asking other players that most people prefer to see the item name first (wow I did ingame market research hehe)
I think it's important to keep the name of the item at the start as it's what people search for and recognise (which is the most important thing to them, the buyer) I put my name in so they might recognise it on the bazaar and maybe contact me for other items.
I also agree 100%with the socketed point made my Ghartan - it's in the buyers interest to advertise/ note this.
One thing I hate, I have to say, is re-naming items beyond what they are(e.g. Han Solo Jacket) and I'm not too fond of the tailor name first in the name. It's redundant for the player market as we need to think ofthe client searching for specific items on the bazaar (if someone wants a swoop helmet they'll sort by name and go to 'S' - they're not gonna find your Swoop Helm if it's called 'Johnny-Smiths Black and Red Swoop Helm')
Not 100% sure that's going on, but my bazaar sales are always healthy, so it wouldn't surprise me.

Dunno, this seems very unethical to me. I can't imagine doing something like that unless it was a specific request, which I have never had to rename something since only the wearer see's the name anyways.
I suppose it would be unethical if Casual Pants were in any way functionally inferior to Striped Slacks or any of the higher-level schematics.
Given that there is no functional difference (unless you find some way to get the buggy bioenhancements to work with pants, but that's another issue altogether), the only distinction from the customer's viewpoint is the style and the name. If I can get them to consider a style that might actually suit them better by giving it a more interesting name, that's not unethical, that's MARKETING.
Consider why Canola oil is no longer called rapeseed oil, and you'll see what I mean.
I think the problem is you're pushing something cool-sounding for 1k when they could get the exact same look for 200cr. Personally, I know I'd be pissed if I bought something then found out it was really something I could get for 80% less.
Of course, the point will bemoot next week when items have the original item name listed as well as the renamed name. Enjoy your extra cash for Artisan-level items while you can!

But this is exactly what real fashion designers do. A very basic example, GAP and Old Navy are both owned by the same parent company, both sell clothes that are very similar (if not exactly the same) and yet GAP clothes sell for more than Old Navy clothes do. Why? because they market them differently. And I know people who shop at the GAP know that they can buy the same pair of jeans at Old Navy for less, but they still go to the GAP instead.
Some people like brand names and "cool sounding" items, that's what advertising is all about.
To each their own. I pride myself in spending time and giving resonable prices, and excellent customer service. To simply take ugly pants and name them pretty pants and charge 5x's the price because of their name is, to me, a horrid practice, something I would never stand for as a customer and certainly won't do to them. Just because people can do it doesn't mean the customers are happy.
In fact, I've had seen a few on my server doing this, and when they say they want a <insert creative name for newbie item> and I tell them there isn't such a thing, that what they are really wearing is a grossly overpriced novicetailor item, they are TICKED OFF and refuse to ever purchase from that tailor again. So please keep doing this, it helps me get more loyal customers which is how I make my money ![]()

I'm looking forward to this.
I'm not really selling Casual Pants as Swooper Pants (though it's not a bad idea), butI am selling things that have stupid names (I'm sorry, that's not a "sneaker") with better names. Having the real name available hurts me not a bit.
Typically I have4 naming conventions:
For single items, I leave the name as-is (except for the smock which get renamed "Smock (Trenchcoatish)")
For complete outfits I name them <Primary Color> <Secondary Color> Themed <Item Name> (i.e. "Black Red Themed Decorative Vest")
For crate items whose quality is important I use <Quality>% Todoo Brand <Item Name> (Batch <Batch Number>
(I.e. "40% Todoo Brand Synthetic Cloth (Batch 5)") I've also though about using the item ID for the batch number)
And for crate items whose quality is irrelevent I use Todoo Brand <Item Name> (Batch <Batch Number>![]()
I'm contemplating creating "Set names" for outfits that are popular (I have a nifty Klingon Battle Suit kind of thing that people seem to like, and my coustemers named it not me.
) So I would name my set items like <Primary Color> <Secondary Color> <Set Name> <Item Name>.I'll have to start doing that tonight.
