Thread: seems like bio eng is dying profession

Well I've been around quite possibly the longest of us all when it comes to bio-engineering. The fact is that the profession 'sounds' good on paper but as we all know isn't so hot when you get into the mechanics of it. Back in beta you really had two types of players. Those who were after a free ride and those who actually tested. And on the whole I saw the same thing from people who wanted a free ride, they'd have a crack at the profession and then quit cause it sucked. Things still haven't changed.

I can see progress though from all the way back then.. what frustrates me is when I look at our profession and see bugs which existed more than6 months ago and were reported numerous times. Things are taking far too long and Holocron did say in his experience an MMO doesn't really get finished until it's been live for 6 months. Well look around... nearing 6 months on and very little has been fixed from release although the extra content has been added.

I dunno, seems to me we're being written out of the script.

Afterall we are the non-essential class that does not make or break the game.

Analyse for me what do we do.

Petstims: Makes CH a little easier, but duplicates medic function.

Tissues: Nonessential very expensive ingredients made with RARE components that add VERY small bonuses to clothing and food made by MASTER tailors and MASTER chefs.

Clones: Even were they all to work and work proper, at best duplicates function of CH going into wild and taming pets, at worst negates CH timesink (SOE really does LOVE it's timesinks) of going into the wild and taming a pet. Also removes incentive for CH players (who are 1/2 scout) to go out and explore (supposedly a 'big part' of the game).

We are nonessential. Worse, in some cases we are counter-productive to the goals of the development team.

I really honestly and truely would like for the devs to prove me wrong.

Lots of novices, very few masters.

This last holocron craze and how you have to master 8 professions to get Jedi just proves SOE has no real investment in the differentprofessions. The professions are there to master and throw away. This is SOE's idea of game content I guess. SWG seems to be designed for grinders which is why I don't play much anymore.

The Lowca BEs still seem to be going strong. I keep seeing more and more MBEs.

Tal-ns right and I remember reading his posts during the beta time. I wasnt in beta but Tal-n was one of the ones actually testing this class but nobody would listen. And exactly right, the BE is the same shape it was on June 26th. The only major changes that have been made to this class, is a factory fix (which should have **edit** near been dealt with in beta) and taken broken tissues out of the line cause the stats were removed from game. We did get Pet stims BUT only cause the CHs are so notorious so they threw BE a bone for the ch sake.

They have said that now that mounts are going live, they are switching to fixing classes full steam. They better cause my patience is running out. I want this class fixed and I wanna see a lot of other classes fixed too....It **edit** sad what condition the chef is in.

Oh yeah and one more thing. Any surge of BEs is due to holocrons. Ive had people asking me for training and I asked them and they said the holo told them. What a joke. This holo system is a nightmare and ill be glad when they have enouph Jedis so they can do away with it. Im sick of seeing all my friends ditching their classes and going crap like ID not because they want to.

I still love being a BE I think there are still tons of BEs out there, at least on Ahazi. One thing that suprises me is how many clueless BEs there are. It still makes me shake my head and wonder when I see an inferior pet stim as compared to mine being sold for nearly twice the cost I am making plenty of profit to be fair to myself and to provide my customers with a fair price. If I have any complaints its with people who price GOUGE like crazy as BEs.

My main hope is that they make the cloning line extremely complex, that way only those of us with brains will want to play BEs.

Actually seems to me that there are plenty of Bio-Engineers around and more everyday. Seems I can't see five people and not have atleast one of them a BE on my server. Guess it depends on where you are at and what server you are on but am sure there are plenty no matter the problems.

I did modest BE testing in beta3 and started BE near release, and I honestly must say with all of the bugs and problems I wouldn't trade it for any other profession. I agree with Tanson, on Lowca the BE profession is only growing stronger, probably a good deal due to Holos but I have also met several that are intrigued by it and plan to see where it goes.

I'm happy to see the ones that are still holding on, even if they are swearing like sailors half the time.
