This is what I do, went out to Rancor Heaven the first time they are spawning some great meat. Im a M Swords too so u need a combat prof to go with this strategy, buffs and good armor. I would be killing the mutants and then it would get down to 2 of them, half the time they were fighting each other after u kill the one do not attack the other one he will not aggro on u 75% of the time, at this point i hit my maskscent clothes macro, kneel down and begin to sample. If he aggros on me I just kill him no worries they will respawn in under 30 seconds. I got around 20 mutant rancor samples in bout an hour and half doing this plus 20k in great meat. Hope this helps u out some

Just wanted to say that you are wrong here, every increase in mask scent helps. And above 135 your recycle on maskscent when detected is like less than 2 seconds.

IT IS? HOLY MOLY... i need me somea that now!!

Oh, I LOVE rancor valley....mutants, bulls, yute's. I've even had pretty good luck finding gaping spider queen and ympw there. Heck, I've even pitted the nightsisters and smc rancors against one another for some real fun. I have Exploration 4 and jacket/shirt/pants with camo/mask scent of +16 each. I "survive" most of the time when the rancor don't decide to eat each other. Alot of times I use the Mask Scent, climb on my speeder (the "car" one works the best for sampling), zoom in, /dismount, run my sample macro, if they aggro I can just jump on and fly away. OR, you can crawl 50+ meters and hope your MS doesnt wear off or break. I prefer the speeder method.

So thats what Jawa beer does now? A factory crate of that should help too.

Whats this thing with a speeder anyway? Surely they are just as likely to agro your ass as soon as you get off the speeder as they are normally? Or is it a hop off - sample - hop on macro for clean getaways?

Either way i don't see how it works... :S

God i got slain so many times last nite

I have a macro that:

Hopes off the speeder, wait 1, start taking the sample, wait 1, hop back on the speeder.

If the creature agros I just zoom away. If it doesn't agro I take another sample.

I seldom if ever die

Doesn't anyone drink jawa beer? You can getlike +30 to mask scent and it stacks over the clothing cap. I think it switched from a buff to mask scent with the chef revamp. It definitely helps.

Then why bother posting to notify us of your intent to not tell us anything anyway?

The whole point of these Forums is to positively contribute to the Bio-engineering community; last I checked, sharing information is a requirement. You're welcome to take what you want from these boards (heck, we couldn't stop you if we wanted to), but if you don't have anything to share...then don't post Just don't go around telling everyone, "Oh, I know all sorts of cool stuff, and even though I take things from the community, I refuse to give anything back." Such statements are simply a waste, both of our reading time and of board space.

All skills cap at +25, even MS.

There is a display bug that will show more than that listed under Skill Mods, but the Dev's have said time and again that only +25 of that will actually be taken into account. There are, however,anecdotal stories that say otherwise, so if you don't believe the Dev's, then by all means, go ahead and load up on MS gear. It's only money ;o)

Your mission should you choose to accept it....

Mutant Rancors are the toughest critter (currently) that a BE can sample. You're probably wasting your time if you aren't MBE, and though some folk have said they have been able to sample them at Sample IV, I really think it's pointless trying. Even a Master BE will fail more often than succeed.

For those souls brave enough to try,maybe something here might help:

The so called "Rancor Valley" is the Sarlacc Pit POI waypoint, so it's easy to find, just look it up on the POI tab of your datapad. There is also a lake to the north west that generally has a lot of Rancor as well, so cruising between the Sarlacc and the lake will generally let you find a pack of victims. I usually find that up to 2000m south of the Sarlacc has MR hanging around.

Get yourself a good macro and a fast bike. The macro I use is:

/dismount;

/pause .5;

/sampledna;

/pause 1;

/mount Speederbike

People in the US can probably cut the second /pause to .5 as well...the shorter the time you spend off the bike, the longer you'll survive.

Just select the critter you want to sample, get within 10m of it and click the button you have the macro on. Be ready to scramble, as they can aggro fairly easily.

Don't be afraid to run away. Reducing wounds on Dathomir can be a real pain in the neck if there are no entertainers on duty.

The real trick of course is getting next to the critter when that critter is a MR.

Two techniques are:

1. MS and move in slowly. If it breaks, back off to over 70m, MS and try again.

2. Some people say to stop as soon as MS breaks, wait till you can MS again and then move in. If it breaks again, rinse and repeat.

I use a combo of these two, plusthe "DarwinTechnique". Sometimes there is a MR that must be the equivalent of a scout and they'll sniff you out every time you approach.

When I run into a pack with one of these Mega Mutants in it, I'll ride through the pack without MS on so they aggro. There is almost always one that will drop his AoE (isn't there always )), and then the rest will turn on him. Wait for the fight to settle down and there will be a lot less MR to deal with (with the added bonus that the "fittest" MR will survive the combat for me to sample, hence the "Darwin Technique"))

A good technique once you're actually in range is to "Rotate Sample". Pick the closest MR, sample it, then hit "TAB" to select the next MR out from you. Move in and sample from it, then go the next one. Once you get to the one furtherest away from your first sample, move back to the original one you sampled from first and start to rotation over again. This way you give the MRtime to reset it's "?/!" timer. If your lucky, and patient, you may even be able to sample the entire pack to death this way.

Make sure you only try to sample MR when you have a lot of time spare, as there is no real quick way to do it and even full Rangers can have trouble with them.

Make sure your courteous to other people out there and don't run "trains" overpeople. The person you "train" now, could be the one that might have healed your wounds at the outpost later...

Hopefully something in there helps someone. Good luck!)

Congrats to whoever started this.. good tips despite a few useless comments..

But anyway, while perusing though various websites i found that Nightsister / Singing mountain Clan rancors have better resists than normal rancors, albeit at lower HAM.

Now, does anyone have ideas for getting samples from these?

I've heard that its possible to befriend these two clans to the point where they won't attack you... any other ways for getting near their rancors without agro? I assume that the NS would set the rancors on you if you get too close, and theres nothing i know of to use for sneaking up on humans (or as close to humans as NS get)

When counting from BE clothes yes, but food/drink stacks, hence Jawabeergives you more than +25 (if used with BE clothes ofcourse). Also if you look at your stats you will see that Jawabeer raises the first MS number (the original skill number), not the 2nd like clothes.
