Yes, there are some quest schematics for things like A-Wing parts, but I've never come across one that's useful for things other than the quest. So this doesn't really help...

I just put together a spreadsheet of all doc meds, here are the things you need to start looking out for:

Components:

Adv BEC needs Wild Wheat from Lok and Fiberplast from Tatooine

Adv CRDM needs Herbivore Meat and Class 4 Liquid Petro Fuel

Adv LS needs Berries from Dantooine and Water from Talus

Adv SDS needs Domesticated Oats and Dolovite Iron

Stims:

D and E need fiberplast, and E needs berries

Wound Packs:

C and D need seeds, D needs chemical, and E needs tubers and polymer

Enhance Packs:

B needs gas and avian meat, C and D need avian meat and reactive gas.

cure disease and posin, and the state removal meds needs various other things but the rarest items you need to find are those for the advanced components.

What is the best way to get schematics for creating new items? I know i get new options as Igain skills, but can I buy schematics elsewhere as well.

I got one from a rebel who gave me a mission once.. in anchorhead, i had to build something for him.

you will get them as you progress up the skill tree of the professions with crafting abilities (scout/artisan/etc...)
