I don't think AA, VHQ, or any quality DNA should be assigned to the critter (ie, a VHQ gnort sample < AA rancor). DNA should be rated on a scale that indicates roughly how good it is (ie, a gnort sample=BA, a gnarled rangor VHQ). Would be nice anyway

As a somewhat new BE I'm finding the cloan system bewildering.

Just as I think I'v got it I try again and the results are compleatly different.

Its like you just bung stuff into the sockets and hope you get what you want.

Put flumpaset dna into the template and make a dewback, it could be CL8 or CL13, who knows.

When I played with other crafting prefessions before it was simple, you knew what stats on the resource you needed, get stuff with nice high numbers in those stats and away you go.

But with BE its a nightmare.

Just my 2CR.

I'm not giving up yet though, but it is by far the most confusing and inconsistent crafting system I have yet come accross in the game.

I skipped a couple pages in this post, so sorry if this has been mentioned.

What happened with the size of the clones scaling according to hams/levels?

There used to be a slight variation in size of the fully grown creatures depending on its hams.

Now it doesnt seem to matter. A lvl 70 13k ham vir vir ends up the same size as a lvl 5 300 ham vir vir.

ok here's a bug. not sure if it's posted yet, but i can't fin it.

I made few Lvl 10 and lower pet (pretty decent) I gave them to my guild members, who doesn't have any Ch skills. Therefore these pets are non-CH use. But when they try to tame it, it tells them that they have too many pets. When they only have droids.

Is anyone else experiencing this problem? I would like to know. Don't want thes epets to go to waste

I agree with Sumo. We DEFINATELY need documentation for this system. We also need a better, much more reliable method of calucating CL and we need the CL of a creature spelled out on the DNA template.

We believe this problem is arising because of Aggressive: Yes characteristic on some clones. You can find a listing of clone's minimum CL's and aggressiveness ratings here:

forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=bio-engineer&message.id=41803

I'm pretty comfortable with the findings in my experiments. There might be an oddity or two, or something to get rid of the aggressiveness, but that can be amended later. If Talthazar agrees with it, hopefully he'll add it to the FAQ stickied thread.

OK, I'm posting this because I see too many complaints about what is turning into a really fun system for me. And I do not want the devs to think everyone hates the new BE system and end up doing something to foul up the works.
BE is the profession of smart people. It is the ultimate puzzle box, with so many variables that getting a guaranteed output is simply not possible. In this respect, it is EXACTLY like, well... BIO-ENGINEERING. It is not impossible to learn, but chaos makes it impossible to truly perfect. Despite all the ramblings here, I've managed to make a 6k average HAM khamurra with ranged attack and 0 vulnerabilities and a CL 18 rating.
As I'm reading these posts, I am wondering why some people don't just go back to being a DE or a WeaponSmith. These are predictable professions because they don't deal with live things.. so there aren't nearly as many variables. A simple math formula that always works is fine for the lemmings, but I want something that will challenge me.. and the new BE profession does this. There are experments to be done to figure out approximately what values affect what outcome, and how to deal with things like replicative fading and making a specific trait pass through to the clone. It's like solving a real puzzle, or playing a real game. IE, it is mentally stimulating, therefore fun. If mental stimulation is not fun for you, there is always Counter-Strike. Please don't spoil this profession by making it easier.

my 2 cents.

I do a lot of reading in this forum and this is my second try at BE in the past 3 months. From my slightly different perspective, the new system isn't perfect, but it is way better than the old one. I made 50 900 HAM Kaadus from city trash and sold all of them over Thanksgiving weekend while AFK through a vendor. While that made a niceprofit for me, it also pointed to a system that was far to dependent on the CL of the skin than the input of the DNA.

Although far from being the expert that a lot of you are, the new system probably goes too far the other way and is still a bit confusing, epseically when it comes to predicting CL. There are many examples of this on these threads, but mine is taking rogue falumpaset DNA and getting a CL 6 Kaadu. Applying CL 18 DNA to a CL 10 skin should be somewhere in between there instead of below both.

I like the more complex system, which appears to be very well captured except for the CL portion by quite a few guys here: http://home.satx.rr.com/grelgenswg/clone.html. If you view the HTML source on that you can see the formulas in Javascript (you don't acutally have to know much Javascript to read them), which most posts seem to find around 90% accurate. Pretty straightforward, really, if you just follow the math. Except for the difficult to predict CL and the skins having no effect on the outcome (and therefore giving no incentive to go up the Cloning column), it is much better than the old one.

That being said, I've been playing this game since August and developing software for a living for over 10 years (although not in gaming) and noticed SOE has a pattern of releasing things in waves, even if they aren't completely done yet. BE not fixed all the way for the December big patch? Too bad, what is fixed goes out and the rest will come in January. The sheer volume of the coding involved for this game is quite daunting and with that level of complexity comes a patch strategy like we've seen here. Pretty common in the general software industry for something of this size. This is step 1 out of N in fixing what seems to be a pretty fun profession where I hope N <= 3.

Sorry if I missed this as I skimmed the thread; some clarification on wether AOE special attacks are intended to be passed on, were left off intentionally,or just bugged would be helpful.

Harvesting dna with these attacks on them only to see them dissappear when put in the mix is frustrating.

i agree with you sumo ,i am master bio on wanderhome ,i have used very high dna all at once ,high dna all at once and above average dna all at once ,all dna was from the same 4 basic creatures, arachne queens frenzy grauls mantigrue reapers and horned voritors ,it does not matter what level of dna i use whether it is high or very high or above average i still get the same thing happening , bugged experimentaion results on making a template .

hear is what happens ,i start with physical to get the light ar sorted and the go to prowess one point mental one point and aggression one point ,results in percentage work as follows 7% on physical np there ,7 % on prowess np there ,but when i attempt to raise the mental and agression i get the usual great success and the percentage may have been raised by 1%,2%,4%,but i rarly get a 7% . also i can fail and lose a crit failure % and also get a +% on different occasions , **edit** WELL LOOKS LIKE ITS BUGGED TO ME .

ANOTHER RANT I HAVE IS THIS , i make a decent lvl 40 ish pet , i then resample dna from it and make another template to lower the ch lvl and dam it does ,only to my disgust that i cant do it anymore cause everytime i try a second generation template i get a critical failure on the crafting stage of the pet ,only try that peeps if you can afford to lose dna templates ,

oh yeh get rid of the devs plz ,sack them cause they dont do what they are supposed to do , basicaly if i dont do my job i get the sack , AND ARE THEY DOING THEIR JOBS ,MMMMMMMMM NOPE

Well, I was going to try to get this profession, but from the sounds of it, it doesn't look like I will have any fun with it. I like the idea of knowing what I am crafting before I put the time and energy into it, and the obvious complaints about lack of documentation and simple stats like CL, and critical failures and experimentation woes leads me to believe this is a totally broken profession.

I'll pop back into this forum in a few months, maybe then things will be fun.

P.S. BTW, this is what happens when the software industry gets downsized and shipped to 3rd world countries.

You know that scene, the one where Marlon Brando did that little hand wave right before he died. Yeah. That was beautiful man.

I wrote this before the NGE, now I feel like Brando
