OK so I saw this on the loading screen......something along the lines of Rancorsbeing "part crustacean and part arachnid". Thats BS =)
Rancors obviously have internal skeletonization with a flexible epidermis, well-developed specialized dentition, they're bipedal, their eyes are non-compound....they as a matter of fact have nothing in common with the key charactieristics of neither class Chelicerata nor class Crustacea, which are actually extremely closely related arthropods. If rancors were anything, they'd be mammals....they're too active to be reptilian, I think.
With those powerful, long arms and underdeveloped legs, they're probably really good natural climbers too. Imagine a Rancor hanging from the trees like a gorilla =) Although probably more like scaling the steep cliffsides of craggy Dathomir.
Anyway, asbiological scientists we all should be outraged at this travesty of cladistics and systematics =)

o man dude come on. I'm am going for a PH D in genetics here and I over look game mechanics such as the Rancor because that is just what it is an entity created within a game. I mean are you planing on trying to create a rancor? I already concocted a reciepe in my head for RL for a pikachu

its different overlooking scientific discrepancies (as a geologist i cringe at the tectonics involved in making some of these planets....) and overlooking it when they state straight out its a combination of two arthropods it is nothing like =)
if they dont know what they're talking about they shouldnt say anything. I woudlnt mind having to look at a Jawa and read about Selonians instead lol

Rancors - both in the movies and the game - strike me as being a bit too slow and lumbering to be swinging from trees. Not that we see any which would support their weight. I picture their long arms being used to take great swings at prey so their short legs don't have to run after things.

Ypu are all wrong - Rancor arms are obviously specifically evolved for the infamous "rancor arse scratch". Nothing else.

Of course you have to factor in the gravity of each of these planet, which never seems to be stated. I mean if the gravity were light on dathomir perhaps the arachnid idea would work. You actually have to figure the AP, and gravity being low on all of the planets otherwise the giant spider's and such would never be possible. The external skeleton would stop functioning whentheir volume started growing so much more than their area in heavy pressure.
But its a game, so it doesn't really matter

This has got to be one of the best threads I have read in a long time. Though, it does remind me of how much I need to get my masters degree.
Love,
Riani
