Thread: Wouldn't it be nice!
Would anybody be interested in armor that you could wear, just for the looks, that did not give any positive or negative enhancements, just neutral. Characters could look cool but not be effected by the bonus or minus. What do you think?
I wholeheartedly agree with this, surely a bio-engineer should have at least some indication of what is coming out of the hopper,

Wouldn't it be nice if the Dev's gave us a CL monitor on our template creation? I know long ago shortly after publish 17 it was disscused but nothing ever came of it as usual. I know that certain skin give a min CL no biggy, we could still use a CL monitor while crafting templates. Weapon crafters all know what the min CL a person needs to use a weapon is regardless of its stats.
A CL monitor would also aid us in not overshooting a desired CL. As it stands now we can guess at the outcome and try to make it work. With all the changes from CU and even before it would be nice to get a little love in our proffesion again.

It is much easier to hit a specific CL now than ever was using the formulas listed in these forums. If we dumb down the system we take the challenge of pet making out of the game. Pet making becomes even more like every other crafting profession where it's only a matter of resources to get what you want. I lobbied against such changes in the CU and I am still against them.
Take a look at the track record of the dev team.
We ask for changes to the CL10 exploit pets we get nerfed pets.
We ask for more useful tailor tissues, and now they're broken.
We ask for more higher end pets to sample from, they nerf all the wild creatures.
These things may not be an exact cause and effect relationship, however, it doesn't lend itself to hope that the devs will do the things we want without other consequences.
Maybe in order to fulfill this request the dev team would change the CL algorithm to something like CL=(CL1+CL2+CL3+CL4+CL5)/5. It would make their job easier, but would pretty much make the CL monitor at the template stage useless.
A CL monitor may seem like a good idea. At one time I would have agreed. After going through the CU, and the aftermath of bugs, system changes, dev team changes and the like I cannot endorse such a thing.
It's not that I'm unsympathetic to people who make useless pets because they don't have a monitor in place now. I made a CL76 pet from Reclusive Cavern Spider Queen and Mutant Rancor DNA because I experimented the agro too high. It took me six weeks to get that DNA, and my frustration level made me pull the plug on my computer and not log in for three days. I think the level of challenge and fun would go down the tubes if the devs got it right, and I really don't have much faith that they would.
Why not just have them fix the bugs instead of tack on a bunch of features or make changes to a system that even devs said they don't fully understand.

Not only that, but after making about 200 pets you'll get a feel intuitively as to how the CL will turn out. ![]()
... And start having dreams about Sawtooth at night. ![]()
Katharian - I would like that very much as well. Although itwould decrease a bit of the adrenalin rush you get when you click on the final assembly and see if you guessed right, all in all it would be very useful.

Don't get me wrong. First and form most I would like our Bugs to be fixxed. I remember back when all we made was hand crafted goodness and factories still didn't work. Then along came publish(oh I forget the numberI've been thr 18 or so now anyways)and a whole new system. I worked thru it and figured it out just like the rest of you. Next I had to leave for 9 + months and came back to the CU and a whole new bucket of bugs. Yes it seems every time the Dev's "fix" something 2 other things get broken, butI dont think a way of monitoring what we are making would be that hard. We have asked since the publish 17 time for a way to figure our pets CL from the Dev's, instead we as a community have had to figure it out all on our own. I can't think of any other proffession that has had to do this. Heck even just officail documentaion would be nice in my book!!!
I love the work that all of you have done in the past andI hope in the future.
