Thread: New BE Patch: What is Possible?

I have been scouring the BE and CH boards and I am a little confused as to what we will be able to accomplish with the new changes.

So to make it nice and simple, I will pose some examples of what I like to see and perhaps someone can say yes, no or probably not.

First off, if I could have any pets, these are (within and withoutreason) whatI would like to have. I realize that all of them will likely be ridiculously impossible but how and why they are impossible and examples of what is possible may be the "for dummies" explanation many of us are looking for.

-A gurreck with 10k ham light (even medium) armor with 95% kinetic but does 10-20 damage that is anywhere under the CL cap. It would have no resists other than the kinetic and would do pathetic damage. Obviously, this ridiculous example, would be a my single creature tank for PvE. My thinking (or lack thereof) is that if I could get the damage and resists (except one) dummied down, it will keep the CL down.

-A gurreck with 5k ham, no armor, junk resists but does 3000 damage. Again, silly. This would be my single PvP pet.

-----

Ok, now lets get a little more realistic. It seems we can take something big and dummy it down with another creatures dna or take something mediochreand improve it somewhat witht he stats of a better creature. What I don't know is do these creatures all have to be on the BE list orcan it be virtually anything.

So maybe this means we can take a gurreck and give it the dna of a khamurra for better kinetic. Maybe it means it will get that nice kinetic the gurrecks were missing but it will also get a reduction in ham to 8000, keep the light armorand be a cl35. I'd be very happy about that.

Whatever the changes are, they would be small or they will be exploited to death. This new Sony code will likely have insane loopholes in it unless the changes BE's can make are minimal.

Please forgive my ignorance. Thanks in advance for your knowledge.

Yes, that link helped a lot.

Here it is in a nutshell:

The Decay resistance of the purple dewback and the psychological profile of the kinetic to energy resist ratio under the new combat system results in a creature that potentially someday maybe kindasorta defunctify the negative invert ratio of Big Mac to Willie Wokna hausenfeffer on Thursdays.

Twice.

Anyone else?

It's supposed to be complicanted, your the last person I expected to complain because they needed to make an effort and actually put seriously though into what they need to make echincea. If you don't like that level complexity simply limit yourself to copying wild animals by taking 5 samples from the same species and throwing them into a clone. That wouldn't require any more though that it currently does.

Your concern on my behalf is duly noted and appreciated for exactly what it's worth.

I think I'm going to have to put in my bio, AFK message and on something in my lab that "Cloning is ridiculously complicated and I don't do it. Please contact <insert name of non-jerkoff BE I know> for Clones."

I like making useful things with which others can do neat things. Not give myself a headache taking 6 hours to make 1 thing. I hope that's not going to bethe end result of all these changes to Cloning, but I'm not holding my breath.

My point is, I don't want to learn the ins and outs of BE just to have some basic understanding af what goodies we have coming with the new changes.

I can hold a 2 hour dicussion about quantum physics with anyone. There is nothing overly complex about your profession. All I asked for was a for dummies snapshot. Instead I get a link to a series of threads where people are playing doctor frankenstien with cupas and dewbacks. Gee can I get a wp to your vendor? I'll take 3 of the pink CL6 2% kinetic ones.

I think the answer is that no one really knows. And all sarcasm aside, that is totally cool. There is a lot of exploring that needs to be done, a lot of combinations that need to be tried, it's not a very turnkey solution and if I wanted to know so bad I could open an account on TC and find out for myself.

But nothing jerks my chain more than a pompous moron or two insulting me because they don't have an answer rather than just embarassingly letting this thread float to page 5. Ignorance is inevitable at times. Pompous and ignorant is unacceptable.

I don't mind complexity as long as there is consistency. The big question here is...Will we be able to predict with any degree of accuracy what the results of a given crafting session will be? If the answer is no, then they need to rethink these changes or fix it so we can figure out what the final results will be with in a given range of variables. I love the idea of being able to create some really unique creature through a wide variety of DNA combinations, but there will be no fun had if one can not even hazard a guess as to what will result from the samples gathered.

I don't mind something being complex...up to a point. Tissues are about as complex as I'm willing to cope with in something that's supposed to be a fun game. Gathering 3-4 resources and making sure they've got the right stats, high enough, is about my limit for something that's theoretically entertaining. I think Clones as they exist now are Not Fun but I'll do it on rare occassions for someone if they're not a jerk to me. Making them even more complex goes past my threshold for having fun doing it. I'd hoped for something that made sense but wasn't akin to juggling half a dozen flaming bags of kaadu poodoo while balancing on one foot on a rolling log. Obviously, that's not going to happen.

So is laziness. What I just can't stomach those who think that their time is so valuable relative to others that they can't figure things out themselves, or at least research what others have already published, but rather just take the "easy way out" and demand that others do it for them. That is its own form of arrogence.

You asked what's new, I sent you a link to the best post of what's new. Part of the reason for that is to avoid clutter of a different sort of "pompus moron" that feels that they, above all else, need to be hand-fed everything instead of doing the same legwork that anyone else would do.

Next time you ask for details of changes, don't start ranting because someone pointed you to them. Get over yourself.

Cool, so complexity = not fun for you. For others though complexity = fun, and I'm in that camp. For me, the other crafting professions where you must simply aquire, then throw things in the factory and that is the extend of your challenge = not fun, because there is no real way to distinguish yourself, and because you've pretty much exhausted the possibilities in a short amount of time. But I certainly don't begrudge others their "fun".

Personally, I'm not sure why someone who hates complexity would bother playing a game pretending they are a scientist when they could be any number of other things. But oh well, whatever floats your boat man.
