Thread: DNA Sampling Droids
Dont know if this has been thought of before. But wouldnt it be nice for the BE and DE profession to introduce a DNA sampling droid? It would fit in perfectly with the new system. Maybe even have a limitied search feature on it (wouldnt want to trump the Rangers).
You could even put a sample limit on it (like the seeker droids), maybe 10 or 20 samples per droid.
Its the Star Wars Galaxy, its high tech, droids do everything and we're out there getting within 15m of a Rancor that can swallow you whole. Doesnt seem right that were out there getting all close up with our little handheld probe.
Ofcourse youd have the same Failures and agros that you have now. If agro happens, mob destroys droid and comes after BE. The droid range can be set to like 50m to give you a little head start or time to jump on your mount or in your vehicle.
I really dont think its asking to much. As I dont know of any other profession where the resources actually attack the crafter.

Hmm, well, I don't like it for a couple of reasons. First, there really aren't that many challenges in this profession, so in order to keep things interesting I kinda like keeping those few challenges that we do have. 1) We must acquire high quality resources. People want to do away with this one with a bio harvester.2) we must acquire good dna samples that are appropriate for what we're trying to make. This proposal would eliminate that. 3) Really the only other challenge left is in assembling the dna into critters in such a way as to make something desirable.
/sarcasm
I propose a robot that assembles creatures given an input hopper filled with various flora, meat, and dna. It would use some AI logic to analyze various combines and pick an optimal one given some criteria like high HAM, or CL < 10. Such a robot would keep churning out monsters until the input hopper is depleted.
/sarcasm off
The other objection is on the"it makes no sense" level. We areskilled, experiencedoutdoorsmen (scouts, most of us having high level mask scent if not ranger abilities). If we, with all that ability and training are having trouble getting close to some ferocious monster in order to **edit** it with a needle, how the heck would we expect some clumsy robot to do this? I mean come on, the first sight of such a clattering mechanical device would either (a) cause the animal to flee, or (b) cause the animal to give it a swat and instantly destroy the said device. Either way, I can't picture such a machine "making any sense".

Not all of us are "ones with nature". Some of us are natures worst nightmare in a labcoat wielding a really big needle. I would welcome with open arms a little droid that would pick up dna for me from a nearby herd of animals. Say you send it in one at a time to sample, if it succeeds it fills a slot, if it fails it gets its ass handed to it. Id buy a crate of them to cut back on clone runs.
Droids as an assistant? What a novel idea for a science fiction game!
I like the idea!

No kidding. Compared to how many times a weaponsmith has to die to make a decentT-21 we get off lightly. Oh, and have you ever tried crafting composite armor? You might as well get cloned in a bull rancor nest... you'd die less often. And then there's tailoredsocketed clothing? Talk about a death trap. ![]()
Honestly I have no idea what you are talking about. Our challenges are far greater than those of any other crafting profession so I wonder what you consider to be "many" challenges.
Never said we had less than an armorsmith or a weaponsmith, I said we didn't have many, and my whole point is that I relish the fact that we *do* have more challenges than they do. But I suppose the fact that you are disagreeing with statements I didn't even make means you are in favor of removing those challenges and becoming more like weaponsmiths and armorsmiths?
Seriously folks, how completely stupid is it to have a droid, that would sample at a master level (if it didn't it would be worthless) and has high level mask scent/cammo (again, would be useless if it didn't) and allows you yet another opportunity to sit on your fat can and do nothing but be a spectator? It begs the question: are you playing the game, or is the game playing you?

I'm a master tailor/master BE, with Exploration-2 so I can move somewhat up and down hills and Advertising-3 to ensure I can actually sell what I make. Because of this, I can have no other skills.
The idea that we need "challenge" is hilarious. I can't get CH, I can't get high enough in Marksman or Brawler to do much more than protect myself against butterflies, and my business requires that I walk up to aggressive creatures, poke them, and hope they don't kill me?
Yes, there are components required by Weaponsmiths and Armorsmiths in order to make more powerful items (krayt segments, scales and tissues, fambaa hides, etc.) that require some risk, but they can be gathered by non-Weaponsmiths and non-Armorsmiths. We don't get that option - we have to go poke the krayt, or the fambaa, or the rancor, or the kimogila, and hope to the Force that it doesn't kill us.
All so I can make mounts and pets with lower stats than what can be found in the wild? On which I can't really experiment?

I think DNA sampling droids are a dumb idea too. Other dumb ideas include:
1) I have to sample DNA from a live creature (I guess in star wars when you kill a critter it decays instantly, oh wait, you can get meat, bone and hide off ofa creature after it dies, I guess there isn't any DNA in that stuff though, lol).
2) When I extract DNA from a critter it, dies? (I guess little kids are right to be afraid of needles, lol)
3) Not only am I in the most dangerous non combat profession, but I'm also in the most complicated crafting proffession. Up to this next patch it hasn't been that horrible, but now I see making quality creatures is definately going to be a lot more diffucult. (This one makes a little more sense, but if the Devs are going to put in rules can we at least get a list of what those rules are like every other crafting proffession in the game. At least they know what the stats of all their resources will do to their final product to some extent)
Just my 2 cents.
