Thread: Best way to get scout exp?
I'm only at hunting 2 and not that far into it. I'm nearly at organic chem 4 already as well as 2's in the rest of the scout line.
All groups i have to share harvesting rights it seems and i can kill better solo anyway.
Am i just unlucky with groups? is there another faster way?
I'm based at Corronet City, Corellia
This means I just have 11k left to get, which I'll do today with a few mission. Travel to YavinIV is expensive (3300 for a ticket there, 3300 for a ticket back) and I think you have to be on Corellia to get there.
I ran from the Northernmost outpost down to the SE corner, then over to the other outpost in the SW. I maxed out my scout xp around halfway along the bottom of the map.
It's DANGEROUS. Lots of reds... basically I had to watch carefully and do a bit of footwork and hit maskscent the second it was detected/wore off. I reccommend mapping it to an easy to hit key.
Was it worth it? I missed out on getting organics from harvesting. But I really needed a break from that anyway. And I did get to see some neat critters (crystaline snakes!). And I didn't die. Came close twice, but I escaped.
If you DON'T want to do that... I recommend Diseased Nuna missions (I know I can get them out of Kaadara, Naboo). All in all you get about 700 scout xp per mission, and the payout is usually from 1k-1.3k. I was only getting 500 from nightspider/hermit spider missions... and diseased nunas are easier to kill anyway.
Gnort missions are good too... very easy to kill. They only give 27xp per harvest, but about 24 spawn per mission. That's around 640 xp per mission.
I think Mask Scent would be a way to get better scout xp, if it was more reliable... I'm assuming thats what was meant by "going to yavin IV" is using mask scent on reds to get xp...
Not sure...
Going to go try it and I'll let you know...
Seems like everyone is clamming up when it comes to giving details on how Mask Scent works, so heres my experieneces with it, around naboo...
Never worked once till Exploration3, when I accidently hit it near a spineflap soldier and it gave me 274 Scout xp.... Of course, doing some simple math in my head, that was over 10 Chuba's, so I figured I would test it a while... seems like most mobs do a mask scent check at 64 meters... find a red mob, with nothing else around on radar, and turn on mask scent and run up to it, till you are about 60 meters away you will more then likely see, "You were detected", just rinse and repeat, run to about 70 meters away, turn on maskscent and run to 60 meters again... Just keep repeating this till you get xp... it wont happen very often, and only mob I have seen it work with was types of Spineflaps....
Good luck, let me know if you get more xp another way, would love to hear it.
Im not there yet, Exploration 3, Hunting 2.
But, there are critters on Corellia called tabbages.
They are aggressive. Once exploration 3, you can mask scent for 100+ XP, and 100XP for a harvest.
They are extremely easy to kill, cause they have no ranged attacks and are Very slow. I reccomend them for ranged only. They do lots of damage and knockdowns if you get close enough to get hit.
This is what I did for mask scent to get xp:
Get to Explore IV so it has a chance of working on the critters I'm using it against.
Go to Yavin IV. Lots of reds there, and I think it's pretty.
Pick a travel route, and start running.
Hit mask scent every time it gets detected.
I don't go in and out of the 64m radius. I just keep running and try to stay alive.
I did it in beta by harvesting bigger things in groups. I made sure to max hunting before getting past Exploration I though.
Endor was bugged in that most creatures couldn't be harvested, but there was one particular type of creature that could and returned 700 scouting exp each ![]()
I found stalking out rasp and vynock lairs on talus a good way to get some good scout exp, and rifle and pistol exp while you're at it. Simply locate an area that has one or two vynock or rasp lair, usually four are spawned around it. From a distance, use mask scent and equip your rifle (I use a laser rifle) and take aim and overcharge shots. Usually these drop them in one shot. If it doesn't, have a peace macro handy and as soon as your overcharge shot is taken, peace and try again. If you don't kill it after the second, it sometimes attacks, depending on mask scent or not, and brings a couple of buddies towards you with it. If this happens, stand up and equip your pistol (a scout blaster in my case) and pointblankarea them a few times. This brings them down fairly quickly. With this method, you're more likely to cap on rifle first, but with 500 exp per kill, and on average 4 birds each spawn that's 2000 per spawn and usually you can spend a decent bit of time there. Also the harvest gives 90 exp per bird.
Be careful around vynock lairs, because destroying them usually releases a vynock queen and a couple of guardian/defenders who will incap you quick and the queen will db you. I found out the hard way after someone told me, and I accidentally destroyed the lair. However, I retraced my step, found the queen and her four guardians and brought them down.

Folks have been pretty clear about mask scent here. The basic trick to scout xp is doing the exploration tree first and using mask scent all the time.
I'm not sure what you meant in the above quote. Everyone in the group who has harvesting skills can harvest from every kill. That was changed some time ago.

Look at the date posted. This was back from when the game was NEW. It's now 6 months later. Those facts have changed.
