Thread: Why isn't anyone VERY concerned about this?
Am I missing something? I would think this would be a huge issue with the new CL system.

When it occurred to me last night, I almost wept.
as an older player, these changes are sucking the life out of whatever passion i had invested in this game.

Yeah. In the old system someone with one combat mastery was a worthwhile addition to a group and could hold his own. Even my Bio-Engineer/Merchant toon with Pistols 2 in marksman had enough of a chance to go out and check the harvesters and factories outside Bestine. Now though, when I see a kreetle God knows if its going to be a small insect creature or some God-like cl 50 bug that will instantly kill me. So if I want to do some crafting I have to be in a group so the artificially inflated level system kicks in and the creature that was one hit incapping me is now barely scratching me. Wonder how long before we see "Crafter Solo groups" forming in the major starports, because no combat group is gonna want to waste a spot on a crafting toon so he can be "high level" enough to do anything.
They're trying to make this game fit into the same model as the other MMORPG's. Unfortunatly the other systems were designed so that your combat class would not be affected by the "crafting" class you took. Everyone can be a combat toon and still have a crafting side to their toon. But not in our system, oh no. If you want to be a crafiting toon you can no longer participate in the vast majority of game play. So, unless they decide to let every toon take up one crafting class without taking away from their combat skillpoints then this system would be viable.
And going back to that ungodly strong CL 50 kreetle from my above example every other LEVEL based game has areas set up according to player level. You start off in the Noob City, all the mobs in that entire area are balanced for a noob level. In Star Wars Galaxies, once you pass 500 meteres outside a city your in the wilderness and creature levels can vary widely. Now granted, I havent tested this in the past few days, but last week on TC I was seeing many, many mobs just outside the cities that were over CL 20, ie instant death for a crafter. Or my favorite, a level 80 toon takes a mission south of theed. He gets to lair, first mob kills him a(or he gets bored killing one creature for 10 minutes or wahtever reasons you want to choose why he doesnt finish the mission) and he gives the mission up. The mission still stays there after they abort, so now you have level 80 mobs hanging out with the other level 1 - 5 mobs. Great.
And in SWG's arrogance only combat toons and a few very limited other profs are going to be able to re-spec their skills. Never mind that no one wants to be a completely worthless and gimped single combat mastery toon. Oh, Mr. Veteran Player you're an Armorsmith/Carbineer for almost two years now? And now that armor is next to worthless and you don't want to be a gimped single master combat template cause you actually enjoyed going out with your guild and doing the occasional PvP'ing. But too bad, you can't reallocate those skill points, they're not combat skills and they weren't effected by the combat upgrade. Sure they weren't. I realyl feel for all the entertainers out there, theyre also getting the royal shaft in the CU too.
I know this isn't the appropiate place for rants like this. Just needed to get this off my chest. There's so much in the CU that looks great, but its completely over-shadowed by the shaft that a huge percentage of the player base is getting. Hope all those pre-teens who sign up after the movie comes out can afford to pay $30 to $60 or more a month to replace all the veteran players with multiple accounts that are either cancelling all their alts or just cancelling all their accounts. ![]()

I couldn't have said it better. They are losing $45 per month from me, cuz I refuse to re-grind all 3 accounts just to get the same profs I now have, just to play an EQ2/WoW clone... no thanks.
I'm trying hard to accept this but at the moment I think I'm succeeding because I haven't found another game with a crafting system anywhere near as enjoyable as SWG has.
