alright I've read the FAQ, but still want some more exact answers

I just readed 4414 BE, and now I must start on this dreaded DNA grind, so here's my questions

1) what planet should I grind on?
2) what animal should I grind on at each level?
3) how long does it take someone that is grinding many hours a day to reach 4?

thanks

my main question I need answered is number 2. thanks :-D

Here's a quote from that FAQ that you've 'read'....

* Outside cities, sample all the trash. It regenerates quickly. It's widely available. It's low risk. But, do remember that each DNA sample counts against your inventory, so your inventory will rapidly fill. XP is slowly accumulated (about 50-100xp/successful sample). Mirrl advises: If sampling "trash" get yourself a guard trained pet and use it. Don't bother trying to sample anything tougher than "trash" until you get to Sampling 2/3. Then I'd suggest Picket Longhorns on Dantooine. With longhorns always go for the non-females first as they are social and the females are not. In addition I'd suggest running over fighting. They don't DB and generally you'll waste less time being knocked unconscious than trying to kill a lair full. (They don't DB)

* Adventure planets, sample aggros. This is not recommended until you've made it to DNA Sampling 3 since your success rate will be lower in the beginning and your risk of aggro is much higher. Aggro equals decay now, so be cautious. There is a cap on CL sampling, though; avoid anything >CL 70 (and really, you shouldn't sample that until you have DNA 3). Death is common, but the reward per successful sample is great (>300xp/successful sample).

* Running missions is a third option that has become viable courtesy of creature mounts and vehicles. You get a lot more creatures to spawn at a consistent CL and get money as well.

Dont sample trash anymore, 90 exp isnt worth it.

Go to rori, and get Elder Purgoiss missions, they give 150 exp each. Then when you get sampling 2, go to dantooine and get 10k piket missions, and sample from those. You can get 10k piket missions without a group, and no buffs are required.

Exactly

I read the FAQ, but soon found most of it out of date. I wasn't about to gain 2.5k xp an hr to get an 80k box. I might as well just go jump off a bridge now.

So I was wondering if someone has more updated grinding for the DNA. Don't be such a smart ass...

Thanks StasusDrutt for actually being helpful

I sampled on Naboo in my lower levels. When I could regally sample Fambas, I moved to Endor.

On Endor, I just went out in the wild and sampled everything. I eventually found out what was worth more and target those creatures. I think it took me 6-8 hours to get the last 2 boxes. I like Endor because you don’t have to look hard for creatures and seems to be the most populated planet. XP range is between 250 and 600 a sample.

For an added bonus, make DNA templates and then creatures while you grind sampling. It should give you enough XP to get level 2 in any of the crafting ladders. I leveled Sampling first and had Tissues II when I was done.

Think he means maskscent mod clothes - get some +25 trousers or the like and life will be much easier. I've found that +25 trousers with +lots ubese in the other locations will keep you alive long enough to run from virtually anything.

Lay in some vassarian brandy and stim-b's too, the brandy for your mind and stim-b's to recover the action hits from sampling. (You can use Muon Gold as an alternative to the brandy - but you have less downtime as a drunk rather than a junkie).

As someone mentioned earlier - Endor is BE paradise. Lots and lots of MoBs to sample (many of them don't DB) and, when you are higher level, a great source of good DNA (Burrowers, Mereks, Gurrecks and the like). You will need that maskscent clothing there though!

Edit: Oh, and one thing that isn't in the FAQ because it was introduced recently.

Creatures near lairs will not chase you nearly as far as "loners" out in the boonies. If sampling things that DB bear this in mind unless you are prepared to fight them.

A creature with a lair will only chase you 300m or so from the lair - I've had "lone" Mereks chase me well over 1km. from where I tried sampling them. These are scary. I'm a Ranger and my burstrun runs out well beforethey breakoffthe pursuit. Mereks are one of the few creatures that can keep up with a burstrunning Ranger, for my money they are far, farmore dangerous than rancors (which can be outrun by a stunned novice scout!)

(Come to think of it - I've never died to a rancor - many times to Mereks)

Also get two piket missions close to each other, sample as many as you can DO NOT KILL LAIR, after done with initial spawn at that lair go to the OTHER mission and sample all the animals, by the time you go back to the other mission it will have respawned it's intitial spawns. Rinse and repeat, if you get agro'd you can jump on speeder and head to the other mission, no fighting involved.

and what I just posted can be used for any animal lair, so DNA sampling can go fairly quick (at low levels you fail alot etc, at high levels you'll be able to sample 3-4 times per animal occasionally)

I have a very simple means of grinding the sampling, just grab yourself as much ch taming mod clothes as you can wear, grab 2 gurk missions (found on lok) in 1 direction. Create yourself a macro for /mount speederbike (youll need this to quickly evade the gurk if it aggros) then sample the lair entirely, once you finish mount up on your bike go to the other lair and repeat. After the second lair the first lair should have respawned. Repeat until finished. Only thing i figured out how to do more easily than the BE guide tells.

Max is +20 on one item, and I haven't managed to make a +20 tissue yet

I wear two +15s...

2.5k xp / hour? You just sitting watching them for 10 minutes between samples?

I actually did it with Kaadu, but yard trask works and gives a hell of a lot more than 2.5k/hour. Even 1 sample per minute is 5.4k/hour...

Pointing out wjhat the FAQ says isn't being a smartass - re-read your original post and see where it says "I read the FAQ but I think it sucks because you gain XP too slow - what is faster?"... because it doesn't say that.

kthxbye!

90 XP per critter isnt too bad to start off with especially as those critters are way more plentiful than trying to run missions. You might be getting only 90XP but you get XP/min much faster on the outskirts of town than running missions. (At least for your lower levels of sampling).

Theed seemed to work well for me as the BE trainer was very close to a large spawn group. Sample till you run out of inventory room, then make creatures and sample them.

I didnt need buffs or uber armour, just the occasional muon.
