What is everyone making to get their experience? Right now I am at Cloning 2, and DNA 4 and making Gurrcats (If my crafting droid will ever start working again). Considering time and resources/money are clones or tissues the better way to go for advancement?

My testing was showing clones>tissues also, but I don't have any tissue skill yet either. Just wondering if something higher up would give any decent exp.

I'm trying to make the transition from Artisan to weaponsmith. In order to not have to build 5000 some CDEF rifles, I insted made some bone armor and sold it at an extreme loss in the hopes that SOMEONE would buy it, and they did. But the experience isn't exactly flowing in, more like trickling, and I only seem to gain the XP when I'm online, do you need to be online to receive XP from someone using an item you crafted when you are online? Also, does anyone know of anything to craft that people will actually buy and use? Thanks

Yes, you have to be online when someone is using an item you make in order to gain uxp from that. Crafting tools might be a good thing to make because many professions use them but cannot make them, but have to buy them instead. Also, if you really want to get up the chain quicker just practice on items, you get more xp that way, but it is considered a 'waste' of resources. But if you want to get to weaponsmith quickly, that's how a lot of people do it.

I strongly recommend against EVER selling ANYTHING at a loss. It really only hurts the overall community when you do that. There may have been some guy / gal selling that widget to pay for his harvesters and you just undercut him and cost him the sale. Now the community as a whole will expect your new price to be the standard.

To get to Droid Engineer i "practiced" away tons of suits of bone chest plate (which i recommend for you). UXP ( or useage expererience points ) only get aquired when you are online and the users uses your product. I have never recieved anything more than a trickle of UXP and I have sold a ton (well a lot anyway) of droids. XP (what your really interested in) you retrieve when youcreate an item.

Always keep the bazaar full of 25 items. During my artisan daysI kept plenty of resources up there, but I also had items i made in there. Find out what sells on your server/planet/location. A good thing to try is if you dont see a widget # 3 on there put one up, NOT AT A LOSS, and see if it sells. Give it a couple of days if it does great, you have now found a market if not, try another.

Once you are able to build extractors, they give good XP. But of course, it seems like everyone and their mother knows about this and has flooded the market with them. I think one problem at the low level is that quite a few people dabble in artisan, so the low level items flood the market. I can't tell you how many bone armor suits and personal resource extractors I see.

This is "the grind". You can probably make weaponsmith fast by doing the following:

Either:

1) Acquire a LOT of metal of any kind & quality. 1 unit for each 2 exp you need to make your level.

Make Wind Survey Tools as fast as you can. They have the highest complexity of any item that requires all 1 kind of resource. Also use "practice" unless you're macroing.

I don't know if the DEVs want you to macro grind, but it's possible. Unfortunately you can't "practice" when you macro grind and it's not 100% automated. Search the forums if you want to know how to do this.

or:

2) get a lot of bone, hide, fiberplast, chem, and metal. Make bone armor chest plates using "practice". You have to make a lot of segments not on practice first, but the chest plate assembly gives you over 500 exp and that 5% bonus helps.

p.s. players WILL use weapon powerups and you can make money selling them

after a few requests I've started getting into melee powerups.

Thanks for the suggestions. Is it just me or is this phase maddening? Oh, and sorry about the undersell thingy, I was taking advice from a friend who, it turns out, was an idiot

I used extractors to get to Armoursmith. Great xp and they always sell at (I think) a reasonable proce of 1000-1500.

All the additional extractors I made have been used up by borrowing lots from my PA buddies and mass mining 2-3 very high quality resources. I'm stockpiling these resources for when I need them or want to sell them.

sorry 'bout the soapbox thing but i can't help it

As far as the XP per box, it only gets worse my friend. Look at 4th level in DE. Its 108k, if I remember right. 4th level in Weaponsmith is smaller but still an accomplishment. Thats whyI tip my hat to EVERY master of ANY crafting profession when every i see them.
