Thread: Chef wanted schematic

Chef wanted a schematic for a chef tissue from me and was willing to pay.

That would have been unethical for me to say yes. He would have taken profits from BE's. It would also be unethical for me to ask him for a chef schematic.

If any of you guys give into this it will hurt the profession. Please resist.

Just charge a hefty sum forthe schematic. For instance, resource costs on broad spectrum are around 500-800 depending on how much you harvest yourself. Charge him 500 credits per unit for a schematic (thats 500k for a 1k schematic). So he can either pay 1-1.3mil for his 40 crates, or 2mil buying them from you (I charge 50k/crate, thats where that # comes from). He gets off cheaper, at the cost of some hassle, and you make a decent figure with VERY little effort.

I dont see how this is that bad. At most he or she will only get 1000 uses, if I charge him enough for it, I get the same result. Ican charge less because I take my resource cost out of the equation. I save money on resources and still keep a customer. He/she can control when they make it and where and has to buy the meat/flora. In case you haven't noticed yet a full run in a factory is a pain to deliver to a customer. I justgive them access to the hopper and let them get it themselves. Sounds like a win/win to me

If you charge a reasonable price for your effort and skill in making the schematic, and the chef is providing the factory, power, maint, and resources, what is "unethical" about that at all? The position that the chef should not make the items or purchase a schematic seems to me more of an issue of an unreasonable restraint than to make and sell a schematic for a price that reflects your efforts and skils in doing so.

The chef does not gain any ability he does not have or should not, just a boost to the availability of the suppliments and the convenience of having them where and when he needs them. He cannot make an unlimited supply, and can only use what he has provided to you in terms of the resources to make them. You can even set a limit on the number of items the schematic will make.

I have made a couple of schematics for chefs, charging them about 2/3 of what I normally charge per item to make the suppliments for them, with their materials. We have agreed on the price, and the number of items in the schematic, and I usually set the schematic for a maximum of 250 items, which is a reasonable day's run on them for most of the items. The chef can make the suppliments in their factory and take out what they need at the time, which allows them to use the factory itself as storage, and have the specific item right at hand when they need it, or make themselves a schematic and know what they will have available for it when they are ready.

You'll have to forgive me for the assumption, but to me, it seems like the idea of "never sell a schematic to a chef" sounds an awful lot like "we won't continue to make huge amounts of money from chefs if you do this" and smack more than a little of greed, which seems to be the biggest player-based problem in the game. I do not know that this is your real intention, but it does come across badly as it is written, without the rest of the cues like a smile or a tone of voice that would change the meaning hearing it said.

To me, in fact, I am making suppliments in my factories for one or two orders, while someone else is using a schematic that they paid me a per-item price to make for them to make others for their use. I'm making not only the money for the ones I am running, but makig money for the ones they can run, that they have even paid me up front for the priveledge of doing, without my having to collect the resources or maintain and support the additional factory. Seems like a better deal for me than making them myself.

All in all, I do not see it as wrong to make the schematic to sell to a chef. If you read the FAQ and notice the section about having a master doc make you schematics or components for stims, it sounds a lot more like they are taking our own good advice.

Nothing personal about you meant here, just a different point of view about selling schematics, that if we sell them for a reasonable price, we are not taking business from anyone.

Yes, it is bad, if I were to do this for every chef on the server, I could. If I did, it would cheat all the BE's out of the sales. He is a chef, if he want to be able to make BE stuff, he needs to be a BE. Be fair to others also

If you can get every chef on the server do buy from you them you deserve the money. But since you cant you might want to rethink what you have said.

Ya know, I don't even have a clue why you can trade schematics in SWG. All it is, is a way to circumvent the profession skills. Seriously, I have got an equipment factory to make tents and traps, I could go around begging weaponsmiths for schematics and make all my own guns. I've got a clothing factory for my tailoring. I could go around asking armorsmiths for schematics and make my own armor. I've got chemical factories for my BE tissues, I could go around to chefs and get schematics to make all my own food. But why is this allowed? No idea why someone thought this would be a good idea. Anyhow, kind of a moot point since I, like Greenstock refuse to sell schematics, and I've never asked another profession to sell me theirs. The one thing I would consider doing is trading schematics though. If another crafter absolutely has to have one of my schematics, the least they can do is give me one of theirs in return.

Please explain to me the difference between making x amount of money selling supplements and x amount of money selling a schematic. Either way they are paying for your skills.

Now I do make free schematics for a RL friend, but thats a friend, its different.

Well, there's a huge difference actually, but we're not talking about x vs x. If a chef wants to run 40 crates of tissues, and he can buy tissues for 50k/crate, he's not going to buy a schematic for 2 million, he's going to buy it for much much much much less (or get it for free).

In the one case, the chef buys tissues. The tissues are sold, they are removed from the marketplace. Supply is lowered, keeping the tissue price high. The BE selling the tissue will make more, and likely sell them at the same price again. The chef pays full price for his tissues, and must factor that into the price of his goods.

In the other case, the chef snags the free/cheap schematic. No tissues are sold, demand has gone down, but supply remains right where it is, potentially devaluing the tissues of those actually trying to sell them. Furthermore, since this chef saved a bundle in getting them, he now has a market advantage over his peers who have in the past been buying tissues. Now those wanting to buy tissues have to make a tough call whether to go for free schematics themselves or pay full price and have less margin in their goods, assuming they desire to price their goods competitively.

Speaking from experience, I'm a Master Chef on Sunrunner, and I can't find any BE's that will supply me with crates of Broad-spectrum Nutrients period. I'm so desperate that I have started harvesting the components needed to make them so I can do a deal with a MBE for the schematic.

I will pay 50K per crate of Broad-spectrum Nutrients, but you trying finding anyone selling crates on Sunrunner !! So help out the chefs, and either start selling crates of Broad-spectrum Nutrients in decent quantities or be open to selling a schematic for a reasonable price, 150K tops.

Do you honestly think 150k is a fair price for a 1000 unit schematic? Thats 150 credits per tissue. Were a BE to sell you those crates, he would make a profit of 1000-1500 credits per tissue. I wouldn't do it for less than 500k.

That's a nice idea, but it works even more expensive for the chef, and thus more expensive for the customer. Going rates for organic on Sunrunner is 5 cpu, meat 30 cpu. So I would sell the resources to the BE for 900K (for run of 1000) (60 organic, 20 meat per unit), and then based on the going rate for Broad-spectrum Nutrients (50K per crate) pay 2million for the 1K units. So the BE gets a nice 1.1million for making a schematic and 1 factory run. Now I thought the guy charging 500K for a schematic was expensive Not to mention there is no gurantee that the BE will sell them to me.

(Just joking, please don't take offense)

That's nothing, a guy the other day asked me to make him a 1000-count schematic of Active Biosensors tissues. I politely declined.
