Thread: Angry BE yells: Of all things, chefs complain of greed on our part. Baaaa

Chefs are calling us greedy for charging over a million credits for a full schematic of additives. They think we just pull the ingredients out of our *sses or something. I don't get it, really I don't.

They say chefs charge a load of credits for food. Sure they do. But, they charge alot only because the supplements cost so much. I discovered, yesterday, that a master chef was charging 200k for non-BE brandy per crate. After I sold him a few crates of mediocre additives made while levelling, the price went from 200k to 210k. They cost him 10k a crate. I think the medium supplements were 78 power. I'm not sure, but it was just a bit lower than I can make at master (I average about 82-84 power).

Another thing that bugs me is their insistence that our additives decrease in the effect on their food. After all, they're the masters of food, so their stuff should be the best. That would be true if BE weren't a full-fledged hybrid profession that takes a load of SP. They don't realize that most of our additives cost more in organics than the food, and they think it shouldn't create much of an effect. I do agree, however, that they should get experiment points on their combine of water and additive.

They also seem ignorant on the fact that we'll (most of the time) go through many failed attempts before we do the schematic. Why? Our experiments will fail or crit. They think we simply fill the 10 bars for the experiment phase and make the schematic. Two minutes, and we're done.

So, to sum it all up. We, as professional Bio Engineers (think technology and advancement), get free meat, milk, water, and flora. We don't travel anywhere to obtain it. And there are no failures during our crafting sessions. Our factories don't cost for maintenance, and they use no power.

We're just in it for the free ride. This is the attitude I absorb through osmosis when I read the chef forum. And they are the ones whoshould be happy that their profession was fixed.

They have been bugging me lately too There are a couple chefs on Gorath who are just a bit overpriced but all the others are way overpriced Then they try to find ways to get schematics to cut out the BE. I don't blame them for trying to maximize their profits but to complain about BE's is just wrong, IMO.

Anyways, I have an alt that has enough skill points to spare so I am grinding chef. I am going to udercut all Chefs on brandy I have a couple hundred Medium Nutritional Suppliment crates ready to go and I have well over 500k units of good meat to keep making them

In addition to that, I am going to make free chef schematics to other BE's on my server.

This is why I haven't bothered with the additive thing.

There are a few chefs in our PA, they ask me to make them a additive schematic, I just make it for free and don't worry about what happens afterwards.

I haven't been approached by non pa people yet. I'd probably have to charge them I suppose.

Pahbi,

Frankly, it's people like you that are the root of the problem. You grinded out Master Bio Engineer - not because you wanted money, fame or fortune, but because it interested you, it seemed cool, it appealed to you. Like my signature says, you get to craft, it's complicated and you die a lot. Ok, so maybe I'm projecting my own experience on you - bear with me.

The problem is that there are loads of people out there just waiting to take advantage of you. They don't respect the time you have spent learning your profession - whatever aspect you have chosen to pursue whether it be creatures, tailor tissues or the new chef additives. They are thinking totally of the pure profit they can make at your expense by getting a schematic for free or a fraction of the effort it took you to earn your place as a Master BE.

If your guild mates - arguably friends, right? - are approaching you and asking for favors, then surely they will give you a stake in the profits, yes? Help you when you need to go gather rare dna to fill an order?

Let's face it folks, creating good vasarian brandy is about as hard as getting up in the morning. The schematic tells you exactly what is important for your ingredients and just like ALL the other crafting professions except BE, it's only a matter of putting down harvesters and collecting materials. The only additional factor that plays a role is skill attachments (and we have NONE of these, I might point out). Compare this to creating a great pet and you start to come around to my perspective.

If you are giving away schematics for free or for 10k credits, then you are letting people use you. You may not care that people are doing it to you, but let's be honest. Every single poster that ever opined "Well, it only takes me 10 seconds to craft the schematic and I really don't mess with tissues anyway" are being used to the tune of 200% uplift on a product. You may not care, but don't kid yourself about what is happening: you are being used.

I wish more BE's would wake up and realize that without us, the chefs are creating crap that is 30% of a muon gold that happens to last 3x as long.

Since ThgilsRooc decided to post in chef forum and complain about the thread i made without understanding what he read i will say it here.I told chefs to go out get all the resources they need meat flora etc for the Additive that way the BE isnt using any of his own stuuf. Then find a BE that is willing to make the schematic for cheap or in trade for some brandy or what not.The BE is out nothing except for about 1-2 min to make the schematic.I do it all the time and find plenty of BE's that are willing to do it.I will say it again since rooc doesnt seem to get no matter how many times i post it.I TOLD THEM TO BRING ALL THEIR OWN RESOURCES.

Some of the forum Chefs are as annoying as hell, but the Chefs I deal with on Ahazi are fine and I haven't had a complaint yet (I charge between 30 and 40k depending on power).

Take things said in the forums with a gain of salt. Half thepeople are only here to whine (sometimes legitimately) and out of the other half,1/3 are "board warriors" who will argue anything, 1/3 are plain trolls and 1/3 are genuine. The proportions might be out a little, but you get the general idea, the vast majority of people are happily playing SWG and hardly ever hit the forums, so the forums give a ratherbiased (in the negative)view of whats actually going on.

As an example, several of the Chefs that were invading our forum last week sell BE VB at 300-350k. I asked them why they can sell non-BE VB at 75k, but after spending 40 odd K andone extra step in the process they raised the price to 300k. They didn't answer me, so it's kinda obvious who's greedy

(Disclaimer: Not all Chefs are greedy, I know several who are downright decent crafters and all round nice players, the greedy ones are those that mark up the product 260k after spending 40k and then turn around and blame BE's for it...).

To be fair it doesn't cost anything for the schematic, it is however losing you potential business since they'll be making it themselves rather than buying it from you. If they were a friend of mine I'd happily give them the schematic for free however if someone walks up to me and asks for a one that gives them the ability to make 1000 additives I'd probably charge around 100k for that so I at least make some profit from it all. They might say go to hell and find someone else but thats up to them, asking for 100c per item they make using the schematic they provided isnt unreasonable.

not sure personally i have 5 accounts i was going to do Chef on one of my accounts but decided against it cause i really do hate that crafting system.

personally i have about 0 interdependancy when it comes to anything that I need my main is primarly a Hybrid between master professions my 2ndary is a BE that is going up ranger, i noticed that on my galaxy, Eclipse, Chefs have been chargeing about 300k per Crate of 25 brandy that is non BE brandy.

maybe ill bring a chef on to a 6th account but i have yet to.

I just take the average price of a crate of addatives, subtract the market rate of the materials needed to make it, plus 10% for factory and timeand sell my schematic for that price. On my server ends up being about 30K where a normal crate goes for 50k.

Works great and I think it is resonably fair.

I don't bother making chef additives at all anymore. Its not so much they complain about my prices. Its more in that they want thousands of tissues constantly.

I make schematics. I sell them. I charge per tissue and I use none of my own resources. I won't use my factory to run those tissues either. A schematic that makes 1000 tissues will cost 50K more or less depending on if I know you or not.

I make money selling pets. I have a growing reputation as a pet artist. Making pets is infinitely more fun anyway. When you come to realize this is just a video game, making chef tissues seems pretty boring. I'll take sampling a mutant rancor any day.

I get it Owesko. You are lucky at finding suckers. You can bring your own resources and I'll make you a schematic - it's just going to cost you 2 million.
