Thread: Why Would You Give Away Schematics and Destroy Your Own Market?

I've been asked multiple times if I would make schematics. This request has only come from chefs but I don't see why a tailor couldn't make ask the same question. I tell the customer I sell schematics. I charge X amount of money per each tissue on the schematic. Inevitably I get remarks saying "I collected the resources, why are you charging me? It takes you buta second to make the schematic."

Well if you think about it I'm not selling my time. I'm selling my skill. Becoming a master BE took time and money and a LOT of resources.

I keep reading posts by bio-engineers saying "I make schematics for free if they bring me resources." My question is why in the wide world of sports would you do that? You've completely devalued yourself as a professional. You're saying "my skills are worthless."

You've also removed that person you gave the schematic to as a customer. Considering how few chefs there are you quickly destroy that part of your market.

I'd just ask you all to do one simple thing. Ask yourself this question. Do you think a chef would give you a schematic to make 1000 units of brandy for free?

I'll be a master chef tonight and I'll be giving away free brandy schematics to fellow BE's

Spazzers, I like hearing this from you. Now I just have to work on you to get that schematic price up

LOL! I've been thinking about that myself.

After spending some time on the chef forum this morning it really struck me what happens when you give out these schematics for nothing or for very little money. I just wanted to know how common the practice is, why anyone would devalue themselves like this, and why a chef would think so little of us.

Don't get me wrong you chefs out there. I'm not flaming you. Its in your best interest to get these schematics for free. You stand to make a killing doing so. If I were chef (which I may be real soon) I'd be doing the same exact thing.

If you were to purchase 1000 tissues in crates you'd easily pay 3 mil or more. Asking a fraction of that price for a schematic isn't that far off base.

Its not the time you're paying for. You're paying for the skill. Is a bio-engineer's skill worth so little?

I make more than enough money with other BE related activities to care about lost revenue from an Additive Schematic. And I've found in the past that a good turn to a fellow player will be returned to you in the future when you need something off them.

Then why bother with chef tissues at all? Why not leave that part of the business to those that make tissues forincome? You end up destroying their market.

Its subjective to be honest. If you gave ever chef on your server a free schematic you've hurt every BE on your server. If you give one free schematic away to one chef you've only hurt one or two other BE's that could have sold finished products.

If you give a schematic for say a crate or two of brandy then you've been compensated fairly in my view. If someone you didn't know comes to you and asks for a schematic would you just whip it out for free? That's where you hurt your fellow BE's.

Depends on if I know the person or not, a long time ago on Ahazi when i started making advanced BECs for my petstims I took a quantity of the materials to a doctor who I usually purchased crates of the stuff from and he happily gave me the blueprint. I guess it just helps to cultivate a good relationship with other crafters... fact is that price gouging often comes back to bite you in the end. If a complete stranger chef came to me and asked for the blueprints while they were supplying the materials it would depend greatly on my mood at the time. Usually I'd ask for something in return although it wouldn't be credits. I remember a while ago someone wanted blueprints to mass produce petstims for their guild. They wanted around 6 of them as I recall, I traded them for a krayt pearl which at the time was quite common.

Well in my opinion mist skills arent really worth that being that fact that you can grind out almost all professions in amtter of days, do i feel crates of any brandy BE or not should be worth more then 100k, hell no.That is the reason i dont sell my brandy because if i sold it for what i feel it is worth people would just buy it all and turn around and mark it up a couple 100k. I dont feel that a BE's market is all additives though.I have a friend that is a MBE and he wont make schem, atic for anyone but me just because he didnt become a BE to sell additives he became a BE to make pets. I figure that is the reason most people became BE, the fact that you can make additives should only be a bonus. You know if yo want you can always have crates of any food you want if you talk to most chefs in trade for the schematic.

The reason brandy goes for so much is because a master fighter type with buffs can make that money pretty quickly

Agreed though that master chefs should not expect to pay so little for schematic.....if they dont want to pay and think grinding is so much fun have them do it (worse than grinding though could be giving up the skill points.......there is a reason other than greed that sony only lets you have 1 toon per server....good for the economy)

I've always told people 200k for my schematics and haven't had 1 taker yet. Next time I think I'll do the schematic, but not experiment on it all then point at my vendor and let them know where to find high quality tissues.

Lozareth is long gone.

I won't be selling schematics. Lowca is totally flooded with them. There is a so far unknown MBE flooding the market. Obviously a MBE that does not need the tissues to make a living and doesn't care if others do or not.

I think this will probably be self correcting. THis will run the chefs out of their best resources and they will have the annoyance of gathering them and running to get schematics, catching people online.... Reguardless, the market on Lowca is 10 percent what it was.
