Just before the servers came down for a patch, I crafted myself a fishing pole...

I then found a body of water and used the radial to start fishing...

I then received a message telling me that i must bait my pole... I tried usding all different types of food that i had foraged and some different meats and things but nothing seemed to qualify as bait... could someone point me in the direction for getting or crafting bait?

You have two options: 1. try to buy bait at the bazaar or 2. FORAGE

Forage is a skill of a scout, i think you get it after you complete survival 1.

Hey, I have seen fish bait on sale at local bazaars. Try there. I believe lower level artisans can craft bait. Correct me if I am wrong.

you cant craft bait...

-loot bait off an NPC (rare)

-forage for it if your a scout

-or buy it off of the bazaar (not very reliable in my opinion)

once you get bait and catch something youre golden. you can get more more bait and on top of that some resources if you filet your catch.

OK .. Holo or someone .. i Never did get an answer on this before the boards were x-fered over..

Now that I have a bank full of bait .. and a fishing pole (which i put bait on)

is there some secret to fishing that Im not getting ?

i keep putting in my 'next action' and the fish keep eating the lures

I've been wanting to fish but can't find any bait. How did you get your bait?

You can /forage for bait if you are a scout (forget which skill box it is .. Hunting I?). You can also make bait by fileting fish you catch .. of course, you need bait to catch em first.

As to the secret of fishing .. never did figure it out. Darn fishies always stole my bait, too.

I understand the concept of fishing even read a good guide on it at allakazahm's website. But, I have foraged left and right and cannot find any bait . tons of other things, but on occasion I forage something that gives me an error saying my inventory is full. I am only at 60% full. I can forage 2 minutes latter and fruit grubs or anything else goes in fine .. I have a feeling my bait is bugged and won;t go into the inventory. Anyone else get any bait since live release?

And to the person who says "no one cares about fishing" go lay down face forward in a puddle dude!

Some people play this game as an rpg! They look for full immersion. Fishing adds to the immersion of the game, bringing it a little closer to the reality of a virtual world. Thats what all mmorpgs have been striving to do .. making that virtual world .. not everyone wants to powerlevel. Some peeps just want to enjoy the show and do things a real person would do but in the star wars galaxy. Look at the entertainers ... you think they are inthis for the money or powerlvling? They are in it for the fun of the game .. so shush up and let us play thegame like we want .. Go grab your gun powerkill everything and leave us in peace.

Heh, the guy who said no one cares about fishing is the same guy who started this topic in the first place, and he was obviously saying it in the context of being disappointed that no one had responded to his message, heh.

Well to fish your gonna need a fishing pole right?

Lets make a fishing pole

Step 1 get the resources
a.Fishing-rod requires 7 units of inorganic
b.Fishing-line Guides requires 2 units of metal
c.Fishing-line requires 4 chemical
d.Fishing-rod reel requires 5 units of metal

Step 2 You will need a generic crafting tool

Step 3 make sure all the resources are in your main pack and open the tool

Step 4 go to the generic items

Step 5 choose fishing pole

then just follow the steps to create it.

Your gonna need some bait for those fish to bite so lets find some fishing bait

Step 1 find a scout, if you are a scout start foraging

These fishing rods need to be loaded to fish so lets load that pole with some bait

Step 1 Open the radial on the fishing pole.
a. Hold left mouse button down on the fishing pole till radial opens
Step 2 Open

Step 3 drag the bait into the containter

You can also just drag and drop the bait onto the rod icon.

you have 3 types of bait that I have found so far
#1 Worm-bait this is foraged

#2 Bugs-this is foraged

#3 chum bait-this is what you get from filleting the fish

Once baited your going to want some water with some nice weeds or rocks.
This is just my paticular favorite fishing location type, I don't think it really matters.

Walk out into the water, about knee deep.

type /fish or make a macro for it. You can also use the radial to cast your fishing line.

once your bobber is out in the water its time to wait and watch your fishing menu

The fishing Menu

Status- Waiting,Nibble,Bite,Caught something
Bait Status-Fresh,Soggy,Mush
Line Range - The furthest I have cast with a rod I made my self was 9.78m
Next Action- Tug up,Tug Right,Tug Left,Small Reel, Stop Fishing

Status tells you what is going on with your line and bobber
Bait Status tells you what condition your bait is in.
Line Range shows you how far or close your bobber is to you.
Next Action shows you what you need to click on to preform the next action.

you will get nibbles and bites and sometimes they will just steal your bait.

I have found that the best time to do one of the rod actions is right after a bite.

your rod actions are

tug
tug left
tug right
small reel
stop fishing

Once you have your fish you can filet it and get fish meat and more fishing bait from each fish.

The larger the fish the more meat you get.But it vaires greatly

Ok, what's the deal? I spent too much timeand about 20 units of fishing bait and caught NOTHING !! How do you fish?
