Thread: What else does a Bio Engineer Do?

Well, apart from the major functions of the profession, you will also be a necessary member of a base destruction team--I'm unclear if you need DNA sampling II or simply novice.

Funny how the necessary memders of the demo squad are all from professions screwed up three ways to Sunday: squad leader, smuggler, bounty hunter, commando, BE. Suprised they didn't require creature handlers to "slice the pest control terminal."

I have ranger 0-0-3-0 figuring it might help tracking those nice creatures to sample. Also going into some Pikeman, do not exactly what trees yet.

Other skill points? We get other skill points? j/k

I threw my skill points into TKM to harvest meat. I also have some medic to heal myself, and the (pre-requisite) mask scent line of scout. Novice artisan was good for finding resources on my own. For a long time I was pretty much independent only needed a friend to run a vendor for me (he set the price, and collected 10%). Another side benefit to TKM is not having to worry about buffs or armor when sampling. Unless I’m being extra careless I don’t get incapped let alone cloned by anything I sample anymore. Meditate is very handy for getting rid of disease/poison, and you’re gonna get diseased and poisoned a lot when you start sampling seriously.

My Gosh, Bendi, you are going to make me pull a muscle. Laughing this hard CAN'T be healthy. Now I'm going to have to waste HOURS getting my scowl just right again.

Messages like that should come with a warning label.

Scout for mask scent is absolutely essential for those of us making pets. I've heard that it can be done without masking, but that has to be an exercise in pure frustration.

Enough medic to be able to use stim B's for self-healing. Again, this is very helpful for DNA sampling.

A little bit of pistoleer so I can collect at least SOME meat, now being relinquished by degrees for force-enhanced skills.

And then, as a luxury, a touch of CH so I can enjoy at least the low-level pets I make.

I gave up artisan skills, so I have to depend on a friend for vendors and surveying.

I personally think the best dabbler professions are pistoleer and TKA. Pistols 0004 or TKA 0040 are pretty good and require little SP investment.

Even though this is the BE forum I'll throw in my 2 cents (I love being a Pikeman).

  • Go as far up Stances as you can for the Speed.

  • Plan on at least Support Abilities 2 for the first accuracy bonus if you want to use an LVA.

  • Defenses 1 for sweep, Defenses 3 for sweep2 if you can afford it. Area2 for mass dizzy followed by sweep2 for all fall down is great.

  • Lastly Offensives, unfortunately the best is definitely area2 which comes at level 4.

It's too bad that it's the worst combat profession, though if you like that sort of thing (hey, you're a BE) I'd recommend it.

I got a master be and master ch, with master scout and 0030 in ranger, with novice medic. Works well for me.

i'm MBE/art 0030/ranger 0040/nov pistol/marks 0401...this is probably a pretty standard, balanced pet-to-tissues oriented template, I find it works out pretty well and is well balanced. You get your own vendor and surveying, tracking to help make pets (I cant imagine trying to harvest rare/nonmission DNA without it) nov pistol for the AP1 pistols (DX2/Republic) and healthshot 2 which gives you a little combat ability, enough to harvest meat with buffs anyway =) marks 0401 gives you warning shot, which helps a lot with aggro control. I think you could do without it, though, I hardly ever use it...you might do with just ranger 0030 too, but I like the extra creature knowledge for when I /examine things. Of course, you could just use swgcreatures.com, but thats a hassle. You might drop the box of marksman support for FS reflexes 0002, get that +5 to maskscent. I was going to drop that box for that, but then I realized scouting, crafting, and DNA exp are all senses, not reflexes -- grrrrrr!!!! X(
